    Nightmares is definitely a side-effect of not drinking. GABA receptors go haywire, resulting in nightmares and occasionally panic episodes if awake.

    @paulrwjr Probably not mental, I've tried to quit drinking a few times in the past decade and that's usually what winds up fucking me up. GABA short circuits are not good, I've had seizures from it. That gives me something to look into though, for this month. I watched Rusty's first video and decided to try again. Still shaking like a leaf, so that might help! Thank you!

    @@matthewflatt4126 Not surprising. I'm not sure of the dietary consequences in regards to rough nights, but it's a bit different with long term alcohol addiction. Anything more than 3 years of habitual drinking (In my experience at 31 Y/O, 10 of which were spent daily drinking quite heavily up to 700ml a day) will generally result in mild confusion or mental fog, anxiety, nightmares, and possible shakes or seizures. Seizures and the so-called DT's are relatively rare however and usually require in my experience kindling from previous quitting attempts. I will say, considering Rusty is only having psychological cravings and the one auditory hallucination depicted he's likely not suffering from large-scale chemical imbalance and the hardest part is getting over the insensitivity hump. Which is why drinkers complain about boredom and a lack of excitement/interest in a lot of things. The brain begins to rely on an alcohol baseline in regards to stimulation.

    I have a current alcohol addiction/dependency (I hate drinking, I'm always alone) and always end up waking up with my body spazzing the fuck out. My arms will be the first to not only shake, but when I'm in bed, it becomes a jolt. I've hurt my hand just hitting my wall while waking up. I'm hoping to enter detox soon but even as I write this now, I'm hammered. I edited my typos.

It takes time, it’s not gonna take 1 week to be your best Version, don’t let something small like that beat you, YOU BEAT IT, BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF IT. You’re a human just like anyone else my bro, so if someone can do it, you can aswell. IT JUST TAKES FOR YOU TO DO IT AND BEAT IT, it takes a lot of strength and power from yourself to beat it. But the process of quitting will make you stronger, smarter, better for yourself, more happier, and like I said Already, you’ll gain more brain power🤝💪🏼🤞 I believe you man, you can do it, you REALLY can😊 and never give up on yourself, giving up is giving up on the people who believe in you aswell🤙 remember that, NEVER GIVE UP. If night time is when you're more likely to drink, it's probably a better idea to go to bed around 10 or 11 or so and waking up around 6 or 7am. More daylight hours would mean less hours you're tempted to have a drink. I know it can be difficult if your friends and people you live with always are up until 2 or 3am, but something to consider. Best of luck.

    My dad was an alcoholic, everyday drinker, and usually to the pass out point. At seven years old I asked my Dad why did he drink. He said that he likes the way it makes him feel. Fast forward 20 years, I realized through my own issues with alcohol, that he probably meant he liked the way it makes him NOT feel. I appreciate you sharing this experience and hope you find the healthiest outcome for yourself. ✌️🙂

    Pro tip: Take up drinking something other than alcohol, to fill the time and get that physical stimulation. I loath tea, but I bought a whole bunch of tea sampler packs, so instead of ending my night with a bottle of whisky, I'll make a few cups of herbal, and chill. It's hot, so you have to wait to drink it, where time is passing. I cut down from about the same amount, to a few recreational drinks a week. Another tip, for when you probs go back to drinking: take up mixing drinks with good quality spirits, and sip as a late night cap. The mixing process takes up time, you won't be killing shots in seconds, your spirits will be expensive but tastey, you'll be starting late, and you'll want to savor the experience as a treat.

    I am a former heroin addict, it took me a very long time to break my addiction. I would get either go to jail on a possession charge, forcing me to be sober or sober up on my own by going cold turkey only to get bored and start using again. It was a terrible cycle that born from a motorcycle accident i was in combined with doctors I went to liberally handing out oxycontin. After about 7 years/ish in that cycle one day I had a moment of clarity and I was done. I was hard in the beginning, the boredom, the craving, the sleepless nights all made it feel like time was crawling at a snails pace but after some time I started to relearn who I was before I became an addict. I started to remember the things I loved to do before my addiction, I started working out, I went back to my old line of work. It's been 11 years, I'm married now, I have a much better job than I did and I have just found my wife and I have a kid on the way, all it took was for me to have the desire to be sober and see it through and I now have a life I that I could've never had if I stayed down the same path. A majority of my old friends are dead or in prison because they couldn't do what I did, they never really wanted to stop and at times would try to pull me back into that life. I respect what you are doing and urge you to get through the thirty days even if you don't think you need to, because maybe getting through this thirty days will be what keeps you from becoming that full blown alcoholic you fear you where. Thank you for doing this in front of the world, ill be watching each video you put up and rooting for you.

    Hey Rusty. My grandpa was a dangerous alcoholic when my mom was a kid. She said he'd have around a 6 pack pf beer a night for as long as she could remember. It made him a horrible, abusive person who destroyed his family. He hasn't had a drop since my mom was in high school, and is to this day one of the sweetest men I've ever known. But, most importantly for you to hear, is that he's alive and doing well. He just turned 72, in fact. So, all I want to say is this: You got this, man. That "thirst" goes away eventually. I have a lot of personal experience with this issue unfortunately (5 years sober now). You will go through a "Pink Cloud" phase where you are really energetic and giddy, that will go away too. The biggest concern with short to midterm sobriety is something called PAWS (post acute withdraw syndrome) and it is a very real thing; basically you will be depressed for anywhere from 3-6 months after drinking last, expect to feel like crying for no reason what so ever. It isn't fun but that goes away too. I nearly died in the ER before I finally quit for good. Now when I think of drinking it makes me sick and the cravings are gone. I hope you don't have to experience something like that ever but sometimes that's what it takes. Also, do understand that when you relapse (nothing wrong with relapsing) you really do go right back to the experience drinking you had when you quit, no matter how long the time between drinks. This is really odd but important to understand, if you do expect to start drinking again after 30 days it will be exactly the same as a few days ago for you, you can never get back to that romance period you had when you first started drinking. I honestly hope you just choose to stay sober even after 30 days. I hope the best for you Rusty, stay strong, sobriety honestly is great after you get through this shit.

    I'm legit fuckin addicted to marijuana, been smoking everyday for about two years. Whenever I had those 2-3 weeks of being sober, I would go back to using it cause of my cravings, and because I lied to myself everytime that i'll be able to control my urges after that break. It sucks, I can't conveince myself to stay sober even though marijuana gives me very depressive moods.

    Wait how much or how long do you have to drink to experience paws after quitting drinking?

  • @ProbableMuppet

    @ProbableMuppet

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@goldenapple3952 it depends on the person but you have to be pretty dependent I believe. As far as defining problematic dependency; someone that should watch for issues would be experiencing “the shakes” and other acute withdrawal symptoms after a few hours into withdrawal. I myself never had any seizures but definitely had the shakes and was extremely irritable towards the end of my work day right before I would start drinking again. I’m no medical expert but personally speaking, my drinking patterns were pretty similar to Rusty’s from what he has said and I experienced PAWS. I was a pretty high functioning alcoholic for most of my drinking career. I had a good job as a software engineer and only drank at night and the weekends. I ended up going to rehab and then relapsing pretty hard right after getting out and I happened to have a lot of time on my hands and no longer needed to attempt to “schedule” my drinking. I ended up almost dead from dehydration a short while later. This may sound ridiculous (dehydration that is) I always thought it did anyways until it happened to me. I would hear about how dehydration can kill alcoholics and just thought it was dumb and that one could obviously prevent this from drinking fluids. This sounds obvious but what actually happens is you get to a point where you literally can’t drink water or even eat because you almost immediately throw up everything you try to ingest except alcohol in a pretty violent manner which then leads to serious dehydration in need of emergency medical attention. Sorry for the tangent. Back to PAWs, long term alcohol intake really fucks with your brain chemistry, specifically GABA hormones (but others as well). Alcohol basically replaces this hormone with itself in a way and with long term use your body doesn’t know what to do with itself when both of these chemicals are absent. It takes about 3-6 months for your brain chemistry to relearn how to be normal and in the meantime, you become very depressed, anxious ect. Again I’m no doctor or anything, this is just the way I understand it to my knowledge. If you think you have a problem talk to a detox facility, it is different than an actual rehab and is a two week process that can safely medically detox you and is much cheaper. Good luck to you whatever the case friend. :). Happy to answer any questions if it helps.

    Bro, people undoubtedly wanna see this. Welcome to the recovery community. We love you man. Stay strong, best of luck, there are zoom meetings online at literally all times, even if its the middle of the night you can just hop on one somewhere else if you feel me. You'll be surprised to see how quickly people are messaging you, throwing you numbers, etc. My advice is try quitting totally at least for a few months- just see how you feel and where life takes you, even if its a few months. It's only a few months, whats there to lose? As for the people telling you to quit by drinking small amounts here and there, they're absolutely dead WRONG, I hate to tell you. I can absolutely with 100% certainty (as this is a scientific fact) tell you that is an awful idea as you are teasing your body with what it wants, but can't have at the moment. You have temporarily rewired your brain to want alcohol and release feel good chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin when you currently drink it, cutting down will be soooo hard and damn near impossible if you try drinking here and there, you will also become depressed if that already isn't an issue, that's just how this works on a brain chemistry level. Not to mention you cant really claim you're sober when you're not and drinking here and there 'to be safe', you're only doing yourself a disservice. Never let a non-addict tell you the best way for you go about your personal recovery. DEFINITELY go to a doctor and tell him your situation, he will give you a proper medication that can't be abused to make sure you come off alcohol safely, and even better, FEELING AS BEST AS POSSIBLE, making what will be a VERY TOUGH time for you AS EASY AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. If this is your first shot at at sobriety, UNFORTUNATELY you're going to find this physical addiction is the LEAST of your problems. I'm a recovering pill addict, and I see in every case/ drug of choice that no matter the substance, if you are a true addict (which unfortunately may be the case), you need to dress the MENTAL aspects that made you start to drink, and go on to make a seriously unhealthy habit of, that as you said your liver cannot and will not maintain for more than 10 years, and that's the amount you drink now (pre sobriety). I would highly recommend at the VERY least attending meetings (NA or AA, you'll be accepted gladly anywhere, never feel self conscious or out of place, seriously, they are glad to see you), ONLY if you're at a point where you TRULY want to drink less FOR YOURSELF. If you don't truly want this for yourself, I'll save you the time and stress and effort, just keep drinking. That's not what I want for you, I'm just telling you with 100% CERTAINTY that until YOU want to stop drinking, likely entirely, this will not work for you. If you're doing this because friends or family are concerned, I can tell you with 100% confidence this will not work. If you are an addict and choose to try this alcohol taper method, that one drink will not be enough for you, and you WILL continue to drink more, and then more and more, until your level fails and you're yellow like some of these alcoholics I was in impatient rehab with. I didn't have to ask what their drug of choice was when I saw a literal Simpsons character in the dining room one day (yes they were that yellow, and you'd be surprised how quickly they got there drinking the same amounts you are). I don't mean to come off as preachy, I just want you to know the strict realities of how getting sober actually works. I have not found a successful method of sobriety, but alcoholics don't taper off their liquor because alcoholics simply can't taper off their liquor. You can do a taper with a medication that is safe and is not the substance you're trying to quit. The reason I say the physical aspect Is the least of your problems is unfortunately you'll find what is likely a slew of personal reasons (likely whatever is going on in your life that you are UNHAPPY with, will remain a driving force in your urges to drink). These will remain there and keep you wanting to pick up the bottle UNTIL you properly address them with counseling, therapy, outpatient resources, etc. If you have the time (and health insurance), treat yourself to what will literally feel like a vacation with some of the best people you've ever met at a reputable inpatient facility in your area. You will learn all the information you need to stay on top of this, coping mechanisms, be introduced to some truly truly amazing and great people who will help you stay on track and vice-versa. Pre-covid some of my fondest memories were trips to the diner after a meeting, you'd be surprised how many times you find yourself just laughing your ass off having fun with these people, and best of all, your drug of choice won't even be on your mind if you're doing things properly. From one addict to another I hope you can tackle this now before it gets any worse, they're not bullshitting when they say it escalates fast. You seem to be at a place where tackling this now would bring you the least amount of pain. At the same time, since it hasn't seemed to cause you great pain, (mind you this is your only video I've seen and I apologize if I'm wrong), you're statistically more likely to stop for a month or something, keep drinking, and then by this time next year be worse off than you ever have been. Again, when people told me this I didn't believe them and thought I knew better, so I really don't expect you to heed my words, I'm just telling you what is almost guaranteed to come if you don't take your situation and this information head on. If you're genuinely serious to see what a sober life could bring you, start tomorrow. No point in putting something as important as yourself off. It really is like having a terminal illness, and that's essentially what it is as a progressive disease, whether you're risking your liver or coming close to death by potentially popping too many pills. Trust me in that you want to get the very best handle on this as soon as possible, and again, id advise seeing a doctor at the very minimum and letting him know whats going on, even if its just for safely coming off cold turkey because a drink here and there for safety essentially makes your entire effort here pointless, you might as well do a 1 day liver cleanse with one of those drug store products and keep drinking if your not serious at this point (which is fine too). Not ideal, but everyone has their own addiction journey. I'm finding solace in a new second job where I'm surrounded by great people, having the time and health and freedom to start talking to girls again (damn did I miss that, wtf was I doing lol), and spending more time at my local skatepark and gym, meeting tons of new friends and being subtly reminded of the things that made me happy before drugs that I can only look forward to because I'm finally giving myself the GIFT of taking life on as a sober person again. It's been a while for me and some of the old things, even the little things, are absolutely amazing to see coming back. And each day sober is just another blessing and is paving the way for the better life I finally, FINALLY, want for myself. This was the best gift I've ever given myself, I'll be damned if I don't take it serious this time. To anyone else struggling with sobriety, keep an inventory of what keeps you grateful and grounded, keep short term goals you can reach and feel satisfaction in reaching, make that meeting, raise your hand or speak when asked to on zoom, even if you have to find something to say, or if its just how you're feeling at the moment. Most importantly, keep a positive mindset. I know if you're anything like me, just coming to terms with being an addict, understanding you have a disease, a tendency, something you have to stay on top off is so hard to comprehend and accept. But it will break you down until you realize it's true. Just the nature of the beast. Know you're not alone, and life holds so many opportunities, people to meet, love interests, career opportunities, time with family, creating a family. For me, one day I just couldn't put those things off any longer to pop more pills and get nowhere in doing so, and decided I was finally done. The difference this time was that it was finally for me, and I'm hoping that's the key. So far, its been easier than expected, having done this 3 times (knock on wood with a fucking sledgehammer lol). STAY STRONG MY FELLOW ADDICTS, TOGETHER WE ARE ONE AND AT PEACE AND GRATEFUL FOR ANOTHER DAY! AND BEST OF LUCK RUSTY, I WILL SUB AND SEE WHERE THIS GOES! MESSAGE ME AT ANY TIME BRO!

    Try fixing your sleep schedule that could help with the emptiness. It isn't the addiction, the feeling of boringness can happen if you don't have any things to do. Yeah, the issue with this is at first your mind will try to make you stay awake until it gets the alcohol at first. Dropping alcohol AND trying to adjust sleeping schedule is really rough. I actually found it was easier for me if I kept my night owl routine. My mind was used to getting alcohol at night, so if I stayed awake until the sun started coming up it helped to curve the craving a LOT. That being said I have stuff to do even at night, so it may be the exception rather than the rule...

    Hey bro, remember this, once a pickle, you can never become a cucumber again. I used to be able to drink a whole lot every day for years and not drink periodically with zero repercussions . If you get the shakes, delirium tremens you are now going to be a functional alcoholic, end up in the gutter or end up in treatment/AA. I remember the day I realized drinking went from a hobby to a essential part of ending my day. I was just like you. Drank a lot, then with time everything changed and I had to change my life. In 8 days I will have one year without having a drink. Every part of my life has gotten better.

    I've personally really wanted to be an entertainer for the past few years now, but censorship has robbed me of that possibility. @@EnigmaGameMaster yeah, nothing wrong with wanting to entertain, but that bygone era of KZread opportunity is what's called "niche". • @EnigmaGameMaster

    @EnigmaGameMaster

    @@kylepace1680 It's not niche. It's censored into non-existence. I watch edgy content, always have, it used to be recommended to me, it isn't anymore. It's all blacklisted and demonetized. About Filthy Frank, I was a kid when I first got into his stuff, I'm not anymore. I have my own ideas which are unique and more creative than that, with my own characters. I was specifically referring to him and Mumkey because those are two persons who I'm sure everyone knows about and exemplify the type of content I want to make more than anyone else. It has nothing to do with living in a society or whatever messiah status people claim Filthy Frank has. The point is that the entire system is setup to abort channels which have the potential for success before they're even born.

    Not an addict, not in a position to say I know what you're going through, or offer advice. Not really anything I can do to be 'useful' per say. But as a long time fan of yours I admire and repect your decision and drive to trying and changing for the better. I know addiction is tough, I've known lots of addicts in my life, and I've seen the good and bad of trying to change that aspect of your life. It takes a lot to be able to admit you have a problem in the first place, and even more to make sure you don't give in or accept those excuses you make in your head. I'm sure things have been real rough for you through this, but I know you can do it. Some advice on trying to kill the boredom, I don't know what all you like to do in your free time, working out is a great decision just don't go overboard with it because that is not something you need to deal with while battling addiction, that would be hell (as if battling addiction isnt hell already) Idk if you play videogames or not, but maybe invest in some of the more time sink heavy games, like the Witcher 3, that would eat through a ton of free time. Or maybe reading, either normal books or comics or something, I spent a lot of time on the Webtoon app since quarantine and found some of my favorite storys too date. This is probably all common sense (cause everyone did all this during quarantine) and not really advice, but you said to say what I thought and I thought that I should pour out my thoughts and half-assed advice for one of my favorite creators and hope maybe he'll read it and gain something from it. Also also, I really like the Vlog style videos, I know your documenting rough times, but seeing you more casually is a pretty cool change from they way you do a lot of your videos. (All this as if he's gonna read it when I'm days late and this will probably be buried, oh well.)

    I’ve been spending way to much time on the internet just waiting time, and eating way too much every day for the past several months. These vlogs help remind me that other people have similar issues but can work to overcome them. Honestly, this series you are doing is really helping me through the month.

    As someone who has seen "hard-core alcoholism" the fact he said he doesn't wake up and start drinking is a clear sign he's not alcoholic. Blissful ignorance of what real alcoholism is. I envy you.

    @@sonyblank1487 if there's something I learned in life, it's that addiction =/= a certain amount, it's not be able to live without it. A person who drinks three beers a day can still be an alcoholic

    @@jepiene that's nice, but you should go educate yourself on actual addiction; especially concerning alcohol. I spend time with alcoholic homeless that have perpetual shaking hands, wake up in the middle of the night needing that drink, so you saying, "3 beers a day is alcoholic," is fucking insulting to actual alcoholics. I can only assume you're young, and I envy your ability to be so casual with the term "alcoholic."

    @@sonyblank1487 yeah that's not what I said. Of course someone who wakes up with shaking hands is a worse alcoholic than someone who experiences symptoms after three days, but it's a sign of addiction nonetheless

    @@bingbongster Personally i follow the NFD approach of being mentally as well as physically balanced, a mix of exercise and meditation. Make sure to sleep enough, hydrate enough, as well as go outside and definitely get enough social interaction. As you feel an urge coming, practice emergency steps or breathing for awhile just to calm down, and then proceed with mediation or perhaps exercise. Always remember why you started. If you have discord, feel free to dm me if you need anything, my tag is 🎃Sp00ky Ki Adi Mundi🎃#7540 One last thing, i help moderate a discord server called Never fap Deluxe, which uses the approach i mentioned earlier. Feel free to join at the link here discord.gg/WTMzRqu Good luck to you, i wish the best. Cheers!

    Yeah exercise makes your brain produce endorphins, wanking does the same, so exercising when you wanna spank can make resisting it easier

    @@bingbongster Start drinking. Drinking is my current problem now, but I don't have the normal urges to go watch some. I am also lowering and tapering my alcohol this month, but not stopping so it's like I'm doing it with Rusty but not. Just break the habbit. The habbit of that time slot usually is what the hardest to break. Play video games, pick up a new hobby, pick up a skill toy, or just go to bed early. I'm no pro at this, but that guy on Discord sounds like he has a good option.
