My First Ride after Passing the CBT - Headspace and how NOT to do your first ride! Sym NHT 125

This is my video diary of my first ride in may 2020 after passing my cbt and purchasing a Sym NHT 125. What was my experience on my first time as a CBT? how i felt and where did i go? I hope this is useful to new riders, it shows what to and more likely what not to do and have a great first time experience.
Please take this as a caution and learn from my mistakes and comment!. please ride safe, take care and say currious.

City centres and busy towns, especially during school runs and rush hour are horrendous places for all motorcyclists, regardless of experience or the size of the bike, but for a new rider on a 125cc brand new bike to call it a baptism of fire would be a HUGE understatement. You got home unharmed and with an undamaged bike.... I'd call that a major success.

Thank you Neil, I've found that the harder I have to fight to do something the more I can gain from it. Monty saw the development of the desert rats tactics from failures and ultimately leading to his successes against Rommel - where he withdrew. I learned so much from this experience, it really laid bare my level, how little I did know and how basic my skills were - how far I have to go to be competent. Even after 25 years of driving, I've a lot to learn! I wanted to be honest so new riders could benefit from my mistakes and hopefully avoid them too. Thank you for commenting it's really appreciated. Take care and ride safe 😊🖖🏽

Hi Walt, thank you for commenting. I think it was important and was best it happened to me. I really learned a lot and really grew from the experience. I learned how important focus is and you can't be distracted when riding, having your riding head on is vital. How different road riding is from the trails I had done in the past and that I did have a lot more to learn! Take care and ride safe mate 😊🖖🏽

I'd been driving for 25 years myself by the time I got my CBT! 👍 I'm now thinking that me riding a 125cc for almost 2 years, hasn't really helped me, regarding now currently learning on a 700cc,since it's a whole different ball game again! 😮

Totally understand!! I've been constantly practicing, I've been off road riding for years when I lived abroad but Ive been taking courses like it's going out of fashion 🤣🤣 done bikesafe, ERS and now in RoSPA. For me I need it to make sense in my head before I can do it. I'm really slow at it and it takes me a long time, might be good to try a few courses or get some cones and practice. Been a fan of motojitsu for ages and fireman Dan, motojitsu has a great app I use for training and Dan is great at situational awareness. I had tostart from scratch and I'm a nerd, so I went nuts developing and improving. I'm at a silver level I've been told, try and get to gold then off road courses with KTM 🥳🥳🥳 if your comfortable with your riding as it was natural your sooo lucky, I really struggle so I have to go down this path. Thank you for watching, really appreciate the support😁🙏

Hi hippo drones! I never thought of it that way, the worst part is I used to be an advanced driver. But I think it was necessary, I'm comfortable off road and lots of experience there, but on road is a different game. It made me appreciate and respect tarmac and pushed me to keep learning. I've just got a grant for 5 hours free training. I don't think I'm going to stop taking courses and keep practicing, all because of this first experience. Wow! Your story makes me realise just how fortunate I was 'back in the day'! Then, (1969) you could ride a 250 on L plates with no prior training. I bought a BSA C15 off a relative and it was brought to my door. Now, I lived so far out into the sticks that all the roads in my area were country single track ( with that strip of grass in the middle) and very little to no traffic so that was my training ground! By the time I took my first trip to town I'd already clocked maybe 500 miles so I'd built some minor degree of competence at the controls, enough that all I had to do was concentrate on the traffic. How easy I had it in comparison to you, It must truly be a nightmare as a learner in a City.....

Thank you for watching Ken! I hoped it would show some of challenges for new riders, in my case the older ones who had to start from scratch again after a lifetime nowhere near a bicycle or motorbike! Definitely the world has become a busier place and I hope anyone collecting a first bike will go first thing or if they live in a rural setting - have it delivered. Continuous training is so important and there are courses about and many new riders just don't know about them, would appreciate if you guided any new rider and encouraged them. @@quinnpeaksbiker I think most people are fine with bikers, but are just inattentive or incompetent in traffic. There are a few idiot exemptions that prove the rule. In any case, getting angry and tense won't help the situation any. Just accept it and look for the strategy that will keep you safest. Engaging in conflict just puts you at more risk. In car Vs bike conflict, the biker always ends up worse off. Once I learned to relax, anticipate and focus on safety first before speed, everything became easier and more "enjoyable".

IF every in a muddled mind state , just try deep breathing , IE. have a look on the tube for WIM HOFF AND BREATHING , or there is one on breathing , where you breath in through your noise , clench every part of your body up and muscles up , fingers toes , everything and blow the air out of your mouth and scream , not out loud , but as if you were . A scream saves your sanity , although the bones are broken . This is part of a very true story . take care ride safe and I hope your watching Saddle bags 73 Sad vent calendar , what a guy . LOL. I'm a quiet, person and now you mention it I can't remember the last time I screamed or shouted like that, I normally utter a few quiet colourful metaphors at best and get on with it! Thinking about it, I suppose making these videos Is my expression and release. I see many going through a challenging time but only showing good bits. Seems rather bias and not the real story. If someone watches this and it prepares them for what could potentially happen, I see it as a good thing.
