Some tips for your painting would be to lay down a base colour/wash underneath the subject to give it more depth and dimension, ie. painting on a muddy orange base under the tiger rather than the white gesso. Think about the base as a mood for the painting. Secondly, try deepen your colours WITHOUT using a black from the tube. It's always a good habit to get into, making your own blacks. You can usually make one with a blue/red/yellow combo, it's just about ratio and experimenting. The problem with deepening colours with black, is that if you decide to lighten them again with white, the resulting colour will show a lot of grey and washed out tones. True black is a colour that we rarely see in nature, so try to look in to what your eyes really see. Thirdly, don't be afraid to build up colours and paint over what you have already painted! The great thing about acrylics is that they're highly pigmented and like to cover up things. They dry quick, so I find it better to lay down a base and do small details and mark over top, that way you won't get that 'dry' or 'scraped' look that you sort of get here. Washes are great for changing the look of a painting too. If the thing you have painted seems too vibrant for what you want, you can mix the paint with water for a wash that you brush over the dried canvas. The original paint will still be seen, but it will be subdued in colour/vibrancy. Then you can add in more details over that. If you're finding the drying process too quick you can add in mixing mediums to slow that down. Great first attempt, never stop trying, and remember to have fun!! ☺☺☺☺

with acrylic, your under paint in would be light washes of the oposite color on the color wheel. for example, your using orange so I would use a blue as my underpainting. it adds that depth.

Thats what I was thinking. Doing the stripes first and the background last, I'm surprised it ONLY took 40 hours! No doubt trying to keep it so he could see the sketch but in the process missing out on so much of the dynamic fun painting offers

i've started drawing doodles to, in the beginning i had some problems with how they looked and shapes but in a 2 weeks it starting to get easy and you can just draw out of ur head and believe me, its so fun too!

Maybe it would be easier to use oil colors instead of acryl, because they need much more time to dry! And it´s easier toget transitions! But it look´s awesome!!! (sorry for my bad english, i´m from germany.. -__- ) edit: And maybe you had to äh.. strech the canvas befor. But, oh my god, it still look´s amazing!
