I’m absolutely sure you’ll love it!

Good decision, I started using FF glass when I got my first canon (a 20D) back in 2004, sure you sacrifice width for reach . Of course when I added a full frame in 2008 I didn’t need to reinvest in glass. Canons 4L series are really good and you have the advantage of the same 77mm filter size across the range. You’ll find the 24-105 4L a really good lens for travel when you want good images but you don’t want to be weighed down with glass. I moved over to the RF system last year trading in my 5d4 on the R5 as well as trading my EF 4L glass for the RF equivalents. I was surprised how well the L series glass had held its value. I’ve ordered the R7 as my backup body for events and will certainly be putting the FF glass on it. I have the RF 14-35 4L , 24-105 4L , 70-200 4L and the 50 1.8 . I plan to leave the 70-200 on the R7 making it 112-320. Good luck & cheers from NZ

That’s it, exactly: no need to reinvest in the lenses! And yes, the f4 L lenses are very good! I had the 24-70 and 15-35 f2.8 in for a couple days, and yes, they are excellent… yet quite a bit heavier and bulkier. Oh and $$$ 😂

My first RF lens with the R7 will be the RF 35 1.8 I got with the EOS RP during a special offer more or less for free and it rocks on the RP. On the R7 it will be a standard lens, f 1.8 is very welcome like the 1:2 macro/close-up capability. EDIT: Forgotten to say that it was fun to see you video while transporting good arguments for your use case!

Thanks for the kind words 😊 Yes! The 35mm f1.8 is also on my list. Would be a good, fast prime to add to my gear. I wish Canon would do a 24mm f1.8 as well!

Awesome! The lens looks fantastic, especially that sharpness. I finally got my R7 last week, but I think it will be a little while before I invest in some RF lenses. Right now I'm just adapting my EF + EF-S glass with the control ring adapter. For a nice and cheap (and lightweight!) superzoom I just ordered the old sigma 18-250 3.5-6.3. When I need sharper photos I've got my Canon 60mm macro lens, nifty 50, and 30mm 1.4 sigma art lens. Still gotta do some testing to make sure autofocus and such works well on my R7, though.

The nifty 50 and 30mm Sigma are both excellent and will work great on your R7! I think AF should just work fine too 😀 I’m testing out the EF-S Sigma 18-35 and no problems at all!

I thought the L series zoom lenses didn't extend the barrel when zooming? I have an EF 17-40 L zoom and it doesn't extend like the one in the video. The glass inside the lens moves within the outer part which stays a constant size front to back.

That was the case for some of the EF lenses. But with the RF mount, canon has focused on making the lenses as compact as possible, and so they all have extending front elements. However, they just launched the RF 24-105 f2.8, which is all internal zoom. Honestly, I prefer compact lenses 😃 I don’t mind the extending!

@@coppensbram Thanks for the reply. I really don't like the extending front elements as I don't think it's all that stable especially when you get to the higher zoom spans. Too much to go wrong. Oh well to say I'm bummed at this is an understatement.

Hehe, sorry about that! I think your combo would work well too, though 🤔😃 I've heard nothing but good things about the 35mm 1.8, I'll have to try it out. And the new 24mm 1.8 too! And... the 70-200 F4 is also on my shortlist. So much choices!

Great video. I have collected 4 lenses for my R7. The RF 14-35mm f4 L USM, RF 24-105mm f4 L USM, RF 50mm f1.8 STM, and the RF 100-400mm F5.6 USM. Hopefully my camera will ship soon! I have two orders out, one with Canon and the other with B&H Photo, i will cancel one depending on which one ships first. Thanks for showing this lens on the camera!

That’s a great selection of lenses! I’m eyeballing the 14-35mm as well… although I could get the 15-35mm f2.8 for just $500 more where I live. I’m still doubting 😃

Yes, I’m super happy with it! It’s probably even better on the RP. F4 on full frame will have a bit more bokeh than on the cropped sensor of the R7. And, at 24mm it’s quite a bit wider too ~ like 16mm on apps-c.

I’ve had the original 24-105 for about 10 years now, it is still a great lens. The only issue I have had with it is the barrel tends to gradually slip out when holding the camera facing down, which has developed over the years. I look after my gear though and the lens is still immaculate despite having been used a lot. I use it on my 5D MkIV, 7D and M6 Mkii (with adapter). I will be getting the R7 and R5 very soon and it will continue to be used.

@@philfyphil Exactly! I’m hoping to use mine for the next decade 😉 And yes, it’s called the “lens creep” right? I’ve seen it on the EF-s 17-55 f2.8 too. Luckily the RF 24-105’s got a hold switch!

Just saw this one. Intersting. But have also an EFS 18-135. Sometimes I really would like to have the 15-35 but it costs an arm and a leg. Well, lets see, so far I am alright with my sigma 18-35 and also my Efs 10-18. Lets see what they bring out for further lenses. Good review as the former ones, cheers.

The 15-35 is very tempting. I’m looking at the 14-35… however where I live the 15-35 is only $400 more… but, I’d like to keep my arms and legs 😂

The 14-35 is a fantastic lens. On the R50, which is aps-c, it will give a nice standard zoom range. IQ is fantastic as well! I have a couple videos on the lens on my channel :-)

Just ordered a R7 upgrading from a 7i, hoping my Canon 24-70mm f/4 IS USM 'L' lens will work out on it. Great info!

I’d probably choose a wider lens for vlogging. In a couple months the Tamron 11-20 and Sigma 10-18 will release for RF. Those will be excellent for vlogs. In terms of settings, always use the 180 rule for video, so if you shoot at 24 or 25 fps, your shutter speed should be 1/50. Aperture depends on what kind of shot you want, I usually shoot wide open. I always shoot with Clog3 enabled, and have AF set to whole frame and detection to people. I'm still considering to buy it or not. I wanted something a bit wider, with similar aperture, but it does not exist (yet) in the RF mount. So I went for the Sigma 18-35 f1.8. I'll do a video on it soon :-)

Hi, I have one question that is most important to me as an event photographer, is it with the EF-EFS lens adapter in video photography Decreases the number of frames from 50 to 25 as in the camera R ?

Do you mean if the frame rate for video drops from 50p to 25p? I didn’t have this problem with R7 + EF 24-105 F4 when I tested this lens! Hope this helps 😃

The 24mm wasn't released yet when I made the video :-) Plus... I wanted a zoom lens, not a prime. The 24mm looks like a nice lens though, I will definitely try it out!

With the rf mount gone are the days that crop lenses don't work on full frame. Even ef-s lenses work on rf mount with the adapter.

I had it for a while, but I went for the 14-35 instead. I love the smaller, compact size 😊 However, if I were just to pick one lens for the R7, the 15-35 would be an excellent choice!

Panasonic do the only zoom focal range I like with the 20 - 50mm - but snag its a variable aperture grrrrrr. If Nikon Canon or Sony came out with a 20-50mm fullframe lens (F4 minimum) id swap systems just to get it.

Yup... One can only dream! I did test out the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8. That has an awesome focal range for an aps-c sensor (since it's designed for that) with a nice aperture. However... it made sooooo much noise - like a constant whine or grind - that I had to return it. If you turn off the lens IS thought, it was very quiet... but the footage very shaky. It's an old lens, I get it... too bad it would have been perfect! 😃

Does anybody know when i can get a R7?

I’ve ordered mine straight from canon. However, that was a preorder… I think it’s probably hard to get right now. Maybe try local camera stores - I’ve heard from others they sometimes just have one in stock. Good luck! 👍

@@rameschand6682 For a blurry background you will need to look at the aperture (f + number). So a lens with f2.8 will give you a more blurry background than one with f4. Hope this helps!

Coming from full frame with the EOS RP and a few lenses, all i can say to the 24-105 F4L... yes good on full frame, but NOT RECOMMENDED on APS-C. Then you are just better off with the R7 18-150 kit. I even tried to keep my RF 50 1.8 for the R7 which was THE BEST LENS i had on the EOS RP, but in the end it just had to go - not sharp enough plus 80mm were just too tight as general use lens, hell even 50mm was often enough too tight. I have also the EF 28-135 IS USM as cheap universal option, it was also "universal" on full frame, but absolutely garbage on APS-C, i have it just because its not worth anything anymore and its ok for 0815 stuff and still a bit "universal", especially the 135mm are a lot more joy than the short zoom range on the 24-105. I had once the EF 70-200, great lens for sports etc, but anything beside a small playing field it was just nonsense - 70mm too tight on the wide end and 200mm not much reach at all. A 2,8x zoom is pretty... bad, especially in this focal range.

Fair points! I think it really depends what you're trying to achieve. As I explained in the video, my goal is to invest into my future setup. In the meantime I did get the R6 II as well, and now I can use the 24-105 on both bodies. And it is an excellent lens in my opinion! 🙂 If I want something wider on the R7, I use the RF 14-35 or even the Sigma 18-35mm.

@@coppensbram I had for a while a EF 24-105 F4, sure its not too bad i used it also on a APS-C DSLR before i got full frame, but only on full frame the lens showed its real potential, on APS-C it was at best a short telezoom with a "regular FoV" option. When thinking about full frame upgrades sure its a no brainer if this focal range is needed a lot. I personally found myself only rarely using a zoom for regular focal lengths like 35, 50mm or so, in these situations a small and fast prime made me much happier My main "trinity" is now something like: Sigma 10-20 3.5 (landscape, architecture, general use lens) EF-S 17-55 2.8 (general use, low light, just anything i can use it for, nearly) Sigma 150-600C (wildlife only) for anything in between 55 and 150mm i rarely have a usage and if, my 100mm 2.8L macro does a great job for many situations or just crop movie mode/cropping in post. As you may see, im at the bottom line of the budget, its just a hobby for me and i dont earn any money with photography or videos, i just enjoy doing it. Thats why i also sold some of the better full frame stuff, there was not enough need for it and the 70-200 i didnt enjoy too much on APS-C since the bokeh wasnt as nice on APS-C.

@@coppensbram The Sigma 18-35 1.8 was definately on my list as i changed from FF to APS-C, but the price, missing stabilizer and weight was just a "NoGo" in the end, the Canon 17-55 2.8 was also noticable cheaper and especially more universal. 18-35 is just a very short zoom range, 17-55 is not too good or special as well, but usable for me. The RF 15-35 is.... well, nice, excellent on full frame, but also pretty much like the 24-105 only really recommended if you have also full frame bodies or at least plan to get one in the future. A friend also bought once a 16-35 2.8 for his APS-C camera for wide angle zoom and low light. In the end he sold it with a loss since these lenses are just made for full frame, especially the wider ones.

Yeah I’ve had the 17-55… but my copies (I tried 3) either had lens creep or were very loud with autofocus. But it’s a great focal range and aperture!

@@coppensbram mine did also lens creep but i disassembled it, cleaned it and put a thin microfiber sheet in the inner extending barrel Noticable less dust collected and no lens creep anymore

Well, lens is optically great, but only f/4 on APS-C for 1400€?

Hi there! Still extremely happy with the 24-105 🤩 In fact, I was so impressed with it that I also got the 14-35 f4 L (review coming soon). Autofocus is excellent, and yes, on the R7 you can shoot Clog3 internal!

@@coppensbram My preorder went out yesterday. I own the 16mm for some months now - little great fun! And my experience with the RF35M is great as well. Both mostly used on the "granny" EOS R Those three lenses do explain why mirrorless makes sense! Ultrawides on a DSLR were a pain ** ** ** (seize, weight, costs)

What i find a bit puzzling is the fact that you stated in your sigma 18/35mm video that 18mm was not enough on a cropped sensor by "a couple millimiters" and now 24mm is suddenly ok? Then you propose a solution with a ultra wide angle canon 16mm that defeats the purpose you have just told us in this same video. That you hated switching lenses. A bit confusing mate...

Fair point. But take into account that videos are made at different times. Initially, I was fine with 24mm at the wide end. But then I started to feel the need to have a bit wider shots - and tried out the 16mm. Yes, I don’t like to change lenses… but I quickly came to the conclusion that there’s no 1 lens does it all for the R7 at the moment. The Sigma 18-35 is probably the best lens to get for video on the R7. But it also has its downsides. Since then, I’m using full frame cameras, and the entire lens setup has changed again 😂 Although I feel like I have what I need at the moment. Hope that makes it a bit less confusing!

There are many terribly wrong assumptions in this video. 1. The kit lense is excellent. Very sharp, with quick autofocus and great range. Replacing it with a 24-105L is a waste of money. 2. 24mm FF is not wide angle on APS-C. Wide angle is less than 28mm FF. It becomes a 38mm equivalent on APS-C, meaning that one loses a ton of distance. Every mm counts when you go wide angle. 3. An RF-S lense does work on a full frame R5 or R6. You'll just have a crop factor. 4. If you buy a 1.5K lense, do buy a lense that's meaningful right away. The RF-S being already awesome as a starter kit lense, the wise choice (if you think long term) is to go prime. An RF 50.1.8 is a lense you keep forever and that's cheap. And great affordable lenses are coming : the RF 24, the 15-30 as well. I went from a 12-years old APS-C 7D to a FF R7. I replaced my wide angle 15-85 to a 24-105 and kept all of my primes

RF Glass is nice, but you need to re mortgage your house to be able to afford to buy it!
