My FIRST K-pop experience! "Emo Goes K-Pop" | JIMIN - Set Me Free Pt. 2 REACTION | Elder Emunk

Ойын-сауық

I had a great time reacting to something this and I've been told it's the equivalent of having your dad react to something cool he doesn't understand. I know I like to poke a lot of fun ( I do it in every genre), but this was a blast. Are there any other K-pop songs I should check out?

There's a lot of really great songs and artists in kpop that even BTS listen to, I can't really imagine limiting myself to only 1 artist. If you're ever open to checking it out, I think the best song I heard from kpop last year is BTBT by B.I. ft. Devita. He writes and produces. His dance practice vid for BTBT is insane, I hadn't been that impressed by a dance practice vid in a long while. 2nd best song from last year I think is Jotto by Bibi, though her song Vengeance is more popular. She's signed under Tiger JKs label, writes her own songs too.

@Jane Tuss Oh, I'm sure there are a lot of great artists around the world that I haven't heard of... I've given it a chance and listened to a lot of k-pop groups and songs, but most of them sound the same to me. I liked certain songs and listen to them constantly - for example "God's menu". And I don't limit myself to 1 artist, I just adore the music! I've been to concerts - Jean Michel Jarre, Deep Purple, Ramstein, Metallica...:) I listen to French, Japanese, Russian music. I am convinced that a huge part of ARMY are music fans and not limited to K-pop. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check them out. :)

Like crazy his title track on his album ”face” is now a 1. hit on hot100 being the first korean soloist (kpop soloist to) in history to top the charts. If this is what jimin can achieve solo you have yet to see what bts can do as a whole.

Your sister has excellent taste. Try reacting to BTS...Jimin's group. They are on a break while they perform mandatory South Korean military service and members are releasing solo stuff. But they are still very much a group! How about reacting to BTS "Black Swan"? The lyrics are incredible as is the video. Don't feel like a "Dad" though. Break free, like Jimin! I am 64 on April 13 and I am all in for Jimin and BTS!!!!!

The (fake tattoo) writing on Jimin's chest is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke "I Live My Life in Widening Circles": I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song? Nothing in any BTS member's videos is accidental, and so the poem is meant to be part of the experience of the song. The tattoo on Jimin's back is real, and very beautiful. You've asked for other KPop recommendations but we don't know what type of music you like (that's a bit like asking an American to recommend some current American music, the choice is too wide. The term "KPop" is a misnomer, basically it's used by the Western music industry for just about any music coming out of South Korea - do you like metal, rap, pop, classical, ballads?!) How about asking your sister for another dare, but this time for a song she actually thinks you'll like! You've broken the ice, keep going!

Yes Jimin is a member of BTS which is the biggest group in the world. BTS have been a group for almost 10 years and have over 300 songs. This isn't a Justin Timberlake or Harry Styles situation. All 7 members have had solo songs/mixtapes in the past while doing group activities too, but last June they announced they were pursuing solo albums for the time being while all 7 members enlist in the Korean military for a minimum of 18 months. But they have stated they plan on reuniting in 2025 after their service is complete. If you aren't aware military service is mandatory for all able bodied men in South Korea. Jin the oldest member of BTS enlisted last December after releasing his song called The Astronaut which he worked on with Coldplay. And the 2nd member of BTS to enlist will be J-Hope. J-Hope recently did a song with J. Cole called On the Street. J-Hope, RM, Jimin have all released their solo albums already and Suga will release his album called D-Day on April 21st and soon after will be going on his first solo tour. BTS have worked with numerous artists Halsey, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion, Anderson .Paak, Erykah Badu, Zara Larsson, Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj, Juice WRLD, Warren G, Wale, Charlie Puth, Coldplay, The Chainsmokers, J. Cole, Steve Aoki, Desiigner, Fall Out Boy, Lauv, Max, Jason Derulo, benny blanco, Snoop Dogg, PSY, Becky G.

The song also makes Jimin the first South Korean soloist in history to top the Hot 100. 🎉🎉 Also, Jimin’s album, debuted at #2 on Billboard 200 Album Chart. Jimin holds the record as the First Korean and K-Pop Soloist to achieve this feat in Billboard 200 history! 🙏❤️‍🔥👍🎉🎉

One of the things I love about BTS is that their artistry is top notch and their music and visual representation always have a deeper meaning. Take the poem written on his body. It's gorgeous and makes you think. The set is reminding of panopticon, a circular prison. And someone already said that BTS fans are not necessarily kpop fans, BTS is just a way wider range than K-pop, they broke out of that definition a long time ago. Thank you for your honest reaction!💗

Big Hit music. Jimin is a member of BTS and all of the members do solo projects. He was first a dancer but learned to sing and is known for his unique tone and high vocals. This entire album was released in March and he is killing all sorts of records with it. Billboard 100 and many more. Ranking first if 117 countries, etc. KPop really isn't a genre, it is more of an industry that is about the pageantry and full package. Between wardrobe, music, and choreo it is really a full package.

Everything is not for everyone and that's okay. As long as you are respectful and you were. That's all ARMY asks. My one general critique for reactions, and you are not alone in this, is the compulsion to always draw comparisons. That's kind of weak. Every performance from every artist must be able to stand on its own merits without being compared to someone else.

This was a fun reaction! Sure, BTS is different than western music, but all it takes is a little exposure to get used to it (and fall down the rabbit hole). The emo to BTS pipeline is real, man. I (and literally every other BTS fan) will give you recs on what to listen to based on what you like to hear in music, whether you like a certain type of music or you really like deep lyrics. I think Fake Love by BTS is usually a good place to start for people who like rock music. For a more grungy feel, I would recommend Danger or Run BTS.

A big difference from Harry Styles, Justin Timberlake going solo is probably that we know bts members are getting back once they reunite in 2025 after all of them absolve their military service, members said they can't wait till all of them are finally together. Until then we will enjoy their solo activities and older bts content :) Nice editing btw, don't worry about the song not being your cup of tea, if you are interested try something else from them to see if it suits you instead but don't feel presured :) I recommend Black Swan and On - both of them are from the same album from 2020 - Map of the soul 7 - probably my favourite bts era, the whole album was masterpiece and they have planned a very big tour after its release but it was just before pandemic hit the world so everything was canceled, sad time for bts and army (our fandom)

LOL! Oh, dear. I hope other long-time ARMY are the majority of your comments section. Some of the newer ARMY can get really aggressive when defending our boys. For my part, I want to thank you for checking out our angel, Jimin. And I hope it inspires you to check out more BTS content in the future. I just love them so much! And now, some K-pop 101, just for your edification (I'll let other ARMY tell you more about BTS and their history; also, sorry for the long comment, but I think the info is useful): K-pop runs in generations. BTS is a part of the 3rd generation, and I believe we're still in the 4th generation currently, which includes Le Sserafim (whose song, "Anti-Fragile," you were playing as BG music in this video). K-pop groups tend to be comprised of various "lines," meaning specializations within a group. There's usually a rap line, a vocal line, a dance line, and a visual line -- yes, I wrote "visual." It's a thing. :) That being said, a lot of groups have started to blur these lines, with most (if not all) of the members having more than one specialization. BTS themselves still largely recognize the various lines, although I think most of my fellow ARMY would argue that all of the members can do it all (myself included). Within each specialized discipline, there are additional roles. The "strongest" of a specialization is often labeled as the "main" of that line (e.g., main vocalist, main dancer, etc.), while the next tier would be labeled as a "lead" of that line (e.g., lead rapper, lead visual, etc.). There are a couple of sort of administrative roles within most groups, the most notable being the Leader of the group. The Leader's responsibility is massive, and includes acting as a liaison between the members and their label, and even between the members within the group itself. The Leader is meant to keep the group focused and productive, while maintaining its morale. And the Leader is also the de facto spokesperson of the group. And it should be noted that the Leader bears all of this burden with no additional perks or benefits. The other important administrative-like role within a group is their Dance Leader, who (alongside the Performance Director) is usually in charge of guiding most performance rehearsals, and monitoring the performances for consistency and clean presentation (e.g., making sure everyone body rolls at the same time, making sure everyone's arms and/or hands are at matching angles, making sure the formations are on point, etc.). The Dance Leader also tends to be the member who is quickest at picking up choreography. And my last bit of info is about Asian names, which is not K-pop specific. Unlike in the west, in Korea, the family name or surname comes first, and then the "christian" name. So, Park Jimin (Korean name) would be Jimin Park in the west, with Jimin being his "christian" name and Park being his surname. OK! That's a lot, but I hope you find it useful. Thank you again for giving your attention to Jimin. He's such a unique talent with a big heart, and I'm glad your sister sent this MV (music video) your way. :) 💜

Jimin just released his album, and this is the pre-release song. The chest tattoos are a German Poem: "I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not ever complete the last one, but I give myself to it. I circle around God, that primordial I have been circling for thousands of years and I still don't know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?" JIMIN also said in interview : “set me free” means setting myself free, so I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free not someone else. In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free --- I would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head. a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. - Park Jimin. BTS are not a typical boy band, or KPOP group. They are amazing artists that have been making music since 2013, and they have the largest fandom in the world, called ARMY. They debuted in South Korea as a Hip Hop Idol group, they write, compose, and produce most of their own music, and they don't hold to any genre boundaries. I'm sure if you give them a chance, you will find music that you like. Unless of course you don't want to open your mind to a group that speaks a different language. They are all amazing artists, and they can all sing, and dance, and rap. Well, all the BTS members are doing solo projects right now, so it's not like a group breaking up and starting solo careers. BTS are taking a break from their group activities so they can enlist for their 18 month mandatory military service, and all of them are doing solo projects before doing that. They are all committed to coming back together in 2025 as a group. Jimin did meet Robert Pattinson (Actor that played Edward Cullen in twilight) - here is a clip - kzread.infoAVybji6bpvM?feature=share

The writing on Jimin's body is from the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke. The English translation is as follows: I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?

It's got a very Kanye West type beat to it. All 7 members have had solo songs since many years ago. Their 3 rappers' music might be more to your taste (2 of the rappers are the primary songwriters and producers for BTS). If you like metal, rock, grunge, hip-hop/rap, check out these songs below, perhaps these will overturn some of your expectations and notions about BTS: - Outro: Tear by the 3 rappers - Cyphers Medley live performance in Seoul 2017 by the 3 rappers - Joke by RM - Yun by RM ft. the queen of soul Erykah Badu - Throw Away by RM (the live performance is better) - Seoul by RM - Smoke Sprite by So Yoon ft. RM - Intro: Persona by RM (written based on the Jungian psychological concept of the Persona) - The Last by Agust D - Daechwita by Agust D - Agust D by Agust D - Interlude: Shadow by Suga (aka Agust D. Written based on the Jungian psychological concept of the Shadow) - More by J-Hope - Arson by J-Hope - Baseline by J-Hope - Ego by J-Hope (written based on the Jungian psychological concept of the Ego) - Dionysus by BTS - Baepsae by BTS - Fake Love (rocking vibe mix) - the metal band Lies Behind Your Eyes did a cover to this song. If you like Linkin Park, BTS did a very cool hip-hop style dance cover to a Linkin Park song + Krizz Kaliko song many years ago. The vid is called BTS Intro Performance Trailer.

And if NSYNC were such good dancers that they could be a worldclass professional dance crew if they never sang. Szegénykém pont Jimint vetted elő? Jimin a legnagyobb a szakmában, de elsőnek kicsit erős kezdésnek. Ő az akit nem szabad elsőnek venni. Előbb pár másik előadót kellett volna megnézni, hogy azonnal lásd a különbséget. Jimin egy új szakasza a K-POP-nak. Ő az abszolutista király. Nem túlzás!!! Ő a következő szint. Merőben eltér a többi k-pop előadótól. Köszönöm a kritikát. 😘

the intro was great until you mentioned harry and justin timberlake lmao im glad your sister kept you clueless but wish she wouldve told you a little about the group without music spoilers but i guess thats what the comments are for. so anything you know about western "boybands" erase from your memory when it comes to bts. bts write and produce their own music for the group AND have solo music careers WHILE being part of the group still. the group didnt and doesnt have to break up for the members to be solo artists. their label bighit music formerly bighit entertainment puts artistic freedom and growth above all else. bts arent kpop because kpop isnt a genre. its just music in korean and you wouldnt separate english music into its own genre theres rock theres hip hop theres pop etc in america/western countries right? but you wont group them together cause theyre all different genres correct? so korean artists should not be called kpop as youre grouping every genre together just because its in a different language. the same goes for latin music or any other music in other languages ALL the same genres exist in other languages so labeling their language as a genre makes no sense. all that being said bts does almost all genres of music between their group music and each individual solo artists music along with collaborations. like i said they write it themselves its based on their lives, experiences, emotions, opinions etc their music is very deep introspective and calls out societal problems etc i think you did great in this reaction once you open your mind up even more youll really be glad your sister told you to react to them :)

While you were respectful, it felt like you went into it not expecting to like it. So you didn’t - self-fulfilling prophecy. The tell was when you: 1) said “I’m actually kind of bopping to this” (“actually” pretty much always means you don’t really want to, didn’t expect to, and therefore have preconceived ideas/reservations), and 2) when you made your eyes go all big about him taking off his shirt like you were in on some joke. It’s fine not to like it, but this didn’t really feel like you ever were going to like it…as if you just did it to say you gave it a try. I’d argue you didn’t. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Case in point: the lyrics are pretty meaningful, but I don’t feel like you read them. I call BTS “the thinking-person’s band” because enjoying their music to its fullest takes more than a cursory look.) All this to say BTS and all its individual members will be totally fine without you as a fan. But those of us who have listened with a true open mind and eagerness to learn are the better for it. It’s always a shame for us when someone else just doesn’t get it.

Nooooooo nothing like 'Western' groups as all BTS members have always had solo work and BTS haven't broken up. The song is Jimin breaking free from all the negative thoughts, feeling he had going through Covid. The dark conversation within himself. Hence the black and white contrast the dancer's pushing him back into the square and towering over him. The zombie like hands trying to tear him down when he's up in the air but he triumphs he wins that internal battle. He stand up in White no longer in that dark black mood of mind any more he's free and we get to see the real tatt's down the back of his neck which is something he we don't get to see much.
