My First Jollibee - Australian Reaction to the Filipino Favourite

Комедия

Jollibee is a national treasure in The Philippines, and it is slowly taking over the world. I was lucky enough to find one in Edinburgh, Scotland, and I just HAD to have a bit. Was it any good? Let's find out!

That spaghetti is sweet primarily because it caters to Filipino children. ChickenJoy+gravy on rice=heaven! 😊 They use local mangoes on that pie, so there's no tartness, floral or piney aftertaste that you get from foreign varieties. Local mangoes are mainly sweet.

That sweet spaghetti was styled after the US soldier's canned rations post WW2. It was a common gift together with Spam and Hershey's bars by GI's during courtship to the young Philippine lasses of that time. The whole family would share in the taste of the canned spaghetti and for them it was the quintessential American flavor!

The lack of tartness of the mango might be due to the fact that the philippines have a variety of mangoes, the one used in the peach mango pie are sweet mangoes. I remember my ozzy friend who visited us here got a little surprised at how many types of mangoes we had. We have sour mangoes, sweet with a bit of tartness and purely sweet mangoes to name a few -someone who lives beside guimaras (the mango island)

No it is not Banana Ketchup and 99% of those who say it is sweet are very ignorant of Italian food and is blithely unaware of the fact that Americans also cook spaghetti using the same ingridients from Del Monte and Kraft, which 99.67% of Filipinos use to make their spaghetti in the 1980s. Del Monte spaghetti sauce is not made made of Bananas. Because bananas are 47 times more expensive than tomatoes.

It's kind of sad that in the Philippines we can't really eat Jollibee in the park because they turned all the parks into malls. :( As for the rice, you can actually eat it like a rice ball out of the wrapper. It holds together reasonably well. The spaghetti is banana ketchup based, which is why it's sweet rather than sour. There was a tomato shortage during the war IIRC, and a Filipina scientist invented banana ketchup as a substitute.

Yeah, i often wonder why is it that til now, there are no Jollibee outlets in Australia. It's most likely the Aussie government that's not allowing it for some reason. Anyway, Scotland is one of my dream destinations in Europe. (The other one is in the UK also.) I didn't know they had Jollibee there too!

i think you dont have it there in australia because of how strict your food authority thing you have it in there. i believe you need to declare each and every recipes and process step by step when you try to open a food business.i guess they don't want to share their secret ingredients or food process😊

We Filipinos love Australians. In fact there are a lot of intermarriages between the two. The big American company Del Monte even manufactured sphaggetti sauce labeled as "Filipino style". Wish you could visit the Philippines.
