No hunting in Kenya. That is banned completely. But you can use your camera to shoot images. You won't need an AC in Nairobi anytime of the year. Average temperature is 28 degrees C. Also, the jet lag is compounded by the high altitude. Keep hydrated as your body acclimatizes.

As a Somali who had lived as a boy with my family from 1992 and who had visited Nairobi many, many, many times since I left the city in 1996, the last being in October, 2019. So let me say something about the lack of air conditioners or fans. In Nairobi, a city that was built on high grounds precisely for its cooler nights all year long, it gets very cool at night and does not get humidity all year long, even during its 'hot summer' days from December to April. So folks in Nairobi never need ACs or fans, even top branded international hotels in the city do not have centralized ACs. Also about 'winter' cold weather in June-July-Aug. months, during the day it gets a little bit of hot, stays around lower to mid 20s celsius degrees. Yes, there are days it rains on and off, still it is not relatively that cold. The coldest time is before 10am. I have lived in many cities all over the world, including my current city of Toronto for the last 26 years, Nairobi has the best weather per none. I love its humidity-free cool nights all year long. Here in Toronto, we just have had a week-long 40-degree celsius days with unbearable humidity. My late mother also loved Nairobi's weather, always coming back to live in Nairobi after going to Mogadishu. She is in fact buried in Langata area of Nairobi, near Wilson Airport.

Hey Cousin, I have been to Kenya numerous times. I love it. With regard to your sleeping/jetlag issues it might be because of the altitude. Altitude effects different people in different ways. I lived at about 6 thousand feet for 3 years in Bolivia. The altitude never bothered me. Any trips I made to La Paz, Bolivia almost killed me. Its at about 11,000 feet. Just food for thought. Kenya and the Kenyan people and culture are awesome.

Blame it on the global warming for the extreme cold. English plus Kiswahili, it's known as sheng. It's the slang language or street language. Summer is not that hot unless you're visiting the northern part of Kenya. Nairobi is a city, it's expensive. Cops in Africa are extremely corrupt. As long as you disclose that you're from abroad, all they see is a tourist and people try to take advantage of that. Sorry, about that but it's the way it is. On the staple food, try githeri, choma, mutura, and matoke. Also, don't forget to taste Swahili dishes from Kenya. Lastly, greens. Stay safe and happy travels. Karibu Kenya. Tembea Kenya.

lol cop asked you for kitu kidogo. Word of advice next time you go to Kenya don't waste your time in Nairobi. Use it as a hub and then go and see the rest of the country. Plan Safaris with others so it's cheaper. I was born and raised in Kenya and live in Atlanta now. Whenever I visit, I just sleep in Nairobi, and am out the next day to the many luxurious spots that Kenya has to offer. Also you seem to be budget traveling in Nairobi. Some of the spots you are visiting in the city look impoverished and not generally frequented by tourists. Meet up or contact Kenyans in the diaspora, there are so many of us that will gladly advise you where to go and what to do to make your stay more enjoyable.

Jet lag gets worse when you get older. In my 20s I could go to Japan or the Netherlands or South Africa and just make it work. In my 30s going back to Japan it was a little harder, and just going from SF to Boston would have me nodding off during the day. Now I'm 40 and went to the UK and I was wrecked for a week. Slept from 11am to 7pm when I got to the hotel, slept again from 3am to 9am, nodding off all the time, and then every night I'd go back to the hotel and think "I'm just going to lie down for a minute" and fall asleep for at least 2 hours.

The temperatures in Nairobi are quite tolerable, no need of aircon. The power bills here for households are very low. I think it can be made into law for Africans in America to apply for residency/citizenship in Kenya/East Africa/Africa. Even without that specific legislation in place, anyone can go to court and claim ancestry, pretty sure it will go your way.

Yep. Its sheng. We generally dont speak correct Kiswahili unless its in formal occasions. On the streets, we speak a form of slang - the sheng - that is a mixture of Kiswahili and English, and a bot of vernacular languages. And so the sheng can actually be regional coz different tribes have different languages. Even the sheng spoken in different parts of Nairobi can be different, but we generally understand each other coz 95 percent of it is Kiswahili.
