I met one English lady who knows exactly where Wanjohi valley is in Kenya. I guess many Brits have read many colonial books. Kenya is highly romanticised in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. Karen Blixen did a great job by putting Kenya on the map especially in England through her writings. Also by the infamous “happy valley set” the notorious British aristocrats that was known for hedonistic lifestyle who settled where Wanjohi valley is located.

Someone asked me about the capital city of Africa, she is still waiting for the reply 1year down the line

I have asked many Africans from different countries which country was never colonised, unsurprisingly and correctly they all know it was Ethiopia but that’s where its ends. If you ask them including Ethiopians why Ethiopia was never colonised, none and I mean no one knows why. Ethiopians like to rabble it was because Ethiopians are strong people and blah blah Ethiopia was a great country but none of that is the reason. I am just amazed how Africans are very ignorant of their own history. Shocking! If they dared to read the history of colonialism in Africa they would know exactly why Ethiopia was not colonised. Ethiopians should thank the British and the French for saving them from Italians and more particularly from ruthless evil fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

You only know the history that the British taught you. Ethiopia defeated the Italian invaders twice the reason Ethiopia wasn't colonized is because it was an established kingdom and part of global trade and power. So according to your reason that the British are the reason Ethiopia is free is wrong. The British were allies with Ethiopia as a kingdom unlike other African countries that didn't exist as countries but as tribes

Haile Desalegne , AMEN! Finally someone who knows exactly the reason why Ethiopia was never colonised! Yes, indeed it was because Ethiopia was a British, French and Russian ally . And like you rightly said Ethiopia was a nation unlike other African countries at the time. And depending on which period you are talking about, the British and the French didn’t want to drive Italy into an alliance with Nazi Germany who ironically gave material support to the Ethiopians in form of rifles, machine guns, sub machines, grenades, tankers, aircrafts to develop Ethiopia’s Air Force. It wasn’t until after the fascist Italy under Mussolini became part of the Axis Powers and declared war on the allies that the British and the French were willing to help Ethiopia. Soviet Union (Russia) did try to help Ethiopia by declaring it didn’t recognise the Italians over Ethiopians. In simple equation- Russia, France and Britain equalled Major Allied Power while Italy equalled Major Axis Power. That’s how the war was won. And Italians became the only European losers in colonial war. The pact between Britain and France in 1935 ended the second Italo-Abyssinia War.
