I have just cleaned and polished every pair of my husband's shoes that I am able to. I haven't quite mastered the mirror shine yet, but I'm getting there. Now if I could only get him to wear something other than shorts...

My ex-wife had mastered dozens of intricate, and exotic tie knots. Some genuinely incredible stuff, that would take most of us men a lifetime to learn. If you search on KZread there's some channels that are dedicated solely to unique and intricate tie knots. It was really neat, and my knots were always a topic of discussion with my clients. It was really enjoyable, until I caught her tying another man's knot.. I think it's cool that you polish your husband's shoes.
Who else here doesn't own shoes like these but can't stop watching his videos? lol

Now it's the time to get a pair of "quality" shoes aka "normal" shoes as they should be :) Once you buy handmade shoes you'll see the shoeworld with different eyes.

You really should buy a pair of quality dress shoes. You don’t have to wear them only with suits, they go perfectly with a chino or even with jeans.

@@spuckz I got a pair of Cheaney Arthur III at a thrift store. They looked dusty and worn and no one was paying any attention to them. Brought them home and watched tons of Elegant Oxford videos. Now they look like a million bucks. Best and worst purchase of my life to be honest. Best (For obvious reasons), Worst because I can't look at other none handmade shoes now and think "Oh this is worth my money". Now I have a pair of AE Park Avenues coming and I fear this addiction will not stop.
You're just an overall good dude! Growing up, I couldn't wait for my Dad, a Navy Master Chief, to get home so I could shine his uniform shoes. He'd taught me how to mirror shine and once I got it down, I loved the challenge of taking a pair of shoes and shining them to mirror gloss. That carried into my own Army career and it sure helped through inspections! And back then, I did all my shining with Kiwi. I've only recently stepped up to Saphir products and on mid-high to high-end shoes, I'm glad I stepped up. I even shined one of my old leather knife sheaths to mirror shine when i was restoring it but ended up dulling it back...mirrored knife sheath in the woods....NOT. But back to shoes, I can see you have a confidence and pride in your craft! Thanx for sharing your talent.

I used to be a leather craftsman (belts, purses, sandals), and when dying I found I had more control if I diluted the dye four to one with alcohol. It took longer, but blended colors more smoothly.

i wouldn't think you'd have any control over anything when you're dying...
I'm retired Canadian Navy and have been spit shining my shoes and boots since 1977. To mirror shine takes an adeft touch, and a zen mind set ,knowing this you friend are a ROCK STAR.
I'm a big fan that has lots of shoes. His videos have gotten me into a small business
You inspire me. Just bought Hubby his first pair of second hand full brogue Allen Edmonds for under $50 off E Bay. And I’m reviving them. I may be a 60 yo woman. But when I “grow up” I want to make over shoes and donate to those in need.

Thanks Preston for the peek inside your private life! As a family man myself it’s touching to see that u included shots of ur wife and daughter. It’s shows that ur a humble man to show us the footage of ur mistake! Most people only show the best parts of life online. U earned those tots!
I generally use saddle soap, since I'm not usually looking to totally remove the finish, I don't dye shoes... yet.
Preston, thanks for the tip about straightening tassels with Renovateur and rubber bands. I have three pair of thrift store rescue tassel loafers I restored, and now they have been tamed, looking even more respectable and not thrifted.
Love this vlog style of video Preston...Awesome job as usual and you have a wonderful family
As usual....great job! You seem to really understand the value of a great presentation. I didn't know that shoes could look this good. You're inspiring many people in a great way Preston. You say to "always put your best foot forward". And a person's shoes are usually the most important part of their wardrobe. When a person takes good care of their shoes it makes them want to do better in other aspects of life as well.
Back to back videos ! Awesome 😎
Initially I was thinking, "It's a shine, whats with the deep artistic inference." As the video progressed I questioned your logic and technique, until around the 20min mark. It all makes sense. Fantastic work, and you are a genuine artisan.

Lovely Preston I am About to get my First Pair of dress leather shoes, but I already wanted to acquire some knowledge how to treat them. Your channel helped me a lot thank you so much. Greetings from Germany Leo :)
You are the Bob Ross of shoes. Thanks Bud!
Nervous? You are an artist, love the care, thought, patience and technique you put into your work. Beautiful family, too! Thanks for posting videos. Between you and the Trenton & Heath guys, my mental state is superb during the stay at home scenario. Plus, all my shoes are buffed to a high gloss.
Best part - your little bundle of joy! Bless her!

Watching your art gives me more appreciation for time my father took to teach me how to car for my shoes. Every step you do he taught me. I’ve never tried to create the patina that you create but I will soon. You’ve inspired me. Thank you.

You are right, just need to keep going. I did not like the way the shoes looked after you dyed them. However, once the polishing and shining was done, it looked really good.

I didn't think that they would turn out as good as they did .looked Amazing in the end .
Great content Preston. You are world wide and deserve the views.
This was such a wonderful video. I've been looking for something like this for a good while. I want to try this on a pair of brown oxford wing tips I purchased from a thrift store. I've been holding back because i have never applied a patina finish to anything before. So, Thank you very much Preston, this video is really helpful. I have seen this video four times and I feel more confident about trying it.
Great vlog, Preston! I loved the video and to see the entire process in motion. I am learning to dye the same way and I bought for this some cheap shoes before ruining some of my better shoes ..
Those came out beautiful
Don't sell yourself short, you do Fantastic work 👍
VERY good vid and format👍 You do FANTASTIC work!!!
I have no idea how I found this channel but your voice is so soothing and this is so relaxing and satisfying to watch!
Great video Preston! I have done 2 custom patina jobs now on my personal strands and mcallisters. It came out well. One thing I was confused about from watching your other videos was how to properly apply the toe burnishing. I thought you wiped acetone over the dyed area each time you applied another layer of dye. I saw you were actually just absorbing it with your rag. It would be awesome if you could do a full length patina tutorial, especially one that involved as much detail as this one!
Great job! Loved the vid.
Beautiful artistic work!!
Used acetone and dyed already. Did it in my old boots and fell inlove with it again. Almost did a mirror shine but haven't been successful yet. 😂 But shine enough for boots not a dress shoes level yet.
Fantastic man. Thanks for sharing
Am I the only one asking the obvious ,ON THE DINNING ROOM TABLE ON THE PLACEMATS? and before or after dinner? I'm sorry,I really get so much from your channel, and glad to see your face. But was totally distracted by the dinningroom table, and the mishap only reinforced the distraction, and yet you pulled it out with this work of art.Your cadance and tone of voice, even not at its best, really is the best, and pleasant music ,not annoying.Thank you!
