My first Gyrobee flight

Ғылым және технология

Numerous questions about where to buy, how much it costs and how long to build:
I bought a basic kit from starbeegyros.com in 2012. All parts were made from materials that were cut to size, drilled, processed and so on. The rest was acquired as needed.
All aluminum pipes is 6061-t6, steel parts is 4130, bolts AN.
I can´t say how much because I built patiently (about 3 years). I bought many parts in England, France, Germany, USA, Russia, Ukraine, Spain. Turning and milling work are expensive and difficult to find, who could do it..
The final cost largely depends on the availability of turning and milling machines and free time.
At that time, I could buy a ready-made set (without rotor, engine, instruments), but much more expensive. I decided that I would do it myself, so I bought a basic set, and bought all the other parts as soon as my project was ready.
I tried to capture the step-by-step process of creation in the photos that I took at each stage. Then I made this video out of them. Building process: • Gyrobee gyroplane, hom...
I described the whole construction process in detail in my blog: rotorpt.blogspot.com (in russian)
I downloaded the drawings for free on the Internet, the keywords are Gyrobee by Ralph Taggart.
Many thanks to Alexander Lameko (aka. ABM) for the translation of the drawings into Russian, and subsequent consultations on the construction.

    2 strokes generally produce higher HP per lb... thats the whole reason for thier use, in small power tools also, you can use a tiny 2 stroke engine in a weed eater instead of having to put a heavier 4 stroke in there that would usually need to be twice as big or turn twice as fast as the 2 stroke to make similar power.

    One thing I always appreciate about Gyro’s is that clutch engaging and the dramatic wind up before starting the takeoff like a fantastical magical time machine spooling up to send you into a distant past, none more so than in this machine. I am impressed by how balanced and smooth she is, hardly any vibration at all, given the crazy physics of what’s going on just about your head, that is impressive.

    As long as you have rotor RPM, and/or can trade altitude or airspeed for rotor RPM - you should be able to land this thing. Basically, if i understand the concept of an autogyro correctly - its like having a helicopter in a constant auto rotation condition.

  • @adawg3032

    @adawg3032

    Actually it wouldnt be that bad since the rotor is a free wheeling rotor and controls are still effective as long as you utilize your altitude properly. you could land this if the engine died by nosing down since controls are cable pulls on the stick. this thing cant hover like a helicopter it uses the forward motion from the prop to freewheel the rotor. the same mechanic is used in an engine out helicopter landing scenario called autorotational landing. having more forward velocity and altitude gives you more range to find a good option to emergency land. its similar to a fixed wing but instead of a fixed wing its an autorotational rotor wing. on startup there is a clutch that can give the rotor initial rotation but once you release the clutch and start moving forward the rotor is just spinning by itself from the moving air and providing lift at the same time since the leading edge and trailing edge have different angle of attack therefore different aero drag if the control cables however were not properly installed then yeah your doomed
