    Sennelier is my favorite WC brand. Yes, the honey binder attracts everything, even knats. The stickiness is comparable to M. Graham (without the stink). I paint wet on wet; wet on dry; but mostly I layer and glaze realistic botanicals. That's my style and Sennelier has never failed me. I agree the color selection in that pallet was blaa. It is so hard to say one paint is better over another because there is so much more to it than swatching. If you buy Sennelier go open stock. A dollop goes a long way and they will last a long time if properly stored in half pans (don't even fill up the pan). That's my 2-cents.

    Yea I just got this curated palette because it was on sale and cheaper to grab than open stock. I'm not sure I'm going to use Sennelier much. I like Roman Szmal and Schmincke better so far

    @@ColorfullyOptimistic I have learned that water color paint is as unique as style. Two things I wish reviewers would emphasize is a swatch does not give a complete picture and there are so many different creative styles.

    Oooh I love that ceramic palette! I have a handful of Sennelier paints, and I like them. But I don’t love them like I love my Schmincke and Roman Szmal. The Quin red I have is lovely, though. I’ve put mine into pans and they will dry (took a while here in a fairly wet climate though) but they are sticky. I’ve always cat hair in mine…

    It’s an interesting choice of colours for the set, I think good for experimenting, and pushing outside the comfort zone, though some better choices could’ve been made in a limited palette. I think Sennelier excel for glazing artists, they can be stunning. PG50 is one of my treat colours, but it’s most useful to me for mixing some interesting granulating soft greys. And a glorious magenta is a must for me but something about opera rose always repels me. I’m not a fan of fluro colours. You made me laugh when you said you had enough paint to open an art school! Ditto, art supplies are my thing 😂.

    I have PG50 by Daniel Smith. I love the color but I haven’t used it in a while. I don’t actually remember what I ever used it for! 😂 I have some tubes of Sennelier watercolors and I poured the paints into half pans. I did it months ago and they are semi-firm/semi-soft. I have traveled with them and they didn’t move, leak, or make a mess. However, I’m not sure how they would behave in a hot and humid climate.

    I'm always looking for a perfect magenta and a perfect cyan... I also recently got my first professional Senneliers, but here in Brazil they are very expensive, so I only bought two tubes. I ended up choosing only turquoise and yellow, because I found this magenta too dark. Seeing your swatches, I was curious if the following mixtures wouldn't give cool colors: opera rose + magenta, phthalo blue + turquoise, vermilion + alizarin.

  • @ColorfullyOptimistic

    @ColorfullyOptimistic

    Жыл бұрын

    I probably wouldn't mix their opera rose too much, only because I know the lightfast for that paint is not worth it, so I'd probably look for a magenta with better lightfastness. You could definitely get cooler colors mixing those a bit.

    I have found Sennelier more affordable than Daniel Smith regularly, Cheap Joes/Jerry’s/Jackson’s, even Amazon. For travel, I have a mix of pan Sennelier & pans I poured myself. I normally do not fill any pan more than half way bc if I travel, they will “stay put” better. They aren’t as messy as M Graham 😉 Re turquoise green- you have me curious 😆 you never actually said what you disliked- too blue? Transparent? Opaque? Dull? I like it for being the lightest-value pg50, and is single pigment. But it’s clearly not floated your boat At all 😆 so I’m very much hoping to hear what you look for in your turquoises. I only have one other- maybe I can find a use for it if you share which pg50’s you prefer, and why 😀

  • @ColorfullyOptimistic

    @ColorfullyOptimistic

    Жыл бұрын

    Ah figured I shared why, but guess not. Normally, I enjoy turquoise, but as a set as a whole, which is what I was evaluating, I wasn't a fan of it in the palette. If I had a different set, I'd like it, and it would mix well, but I just didn't like it as part of this set -- if that makes sense. I always look at curated sets not just for individual colors, but how cohesive they are together, and for me, this one just didn't round it out.

    They did NOT wrap my pencils like they wrapped your paints. BUT they did stuff them in Caran D'Ache boxes and a bubble envelope. I just hate those envelopes so much. And I won't know how the pencils fare until I actually use them. Which may be a while. LOL.
