My First 4 Days on ADHD Medication | Sheepdog Says

I thought it would be a good idea to document my first 4 days on ADHD medication for today's Sheepdog Says vlog.
I am currently on 30mg of Elvance (aka Vyvance), moving to 50mg on Friday and then 70mg once those 21 tablets have been used. I was told to expect some changes pretty much immediately, as they take half hour to 'kick in' and this video runs through how Fri-Sat-Sun and Mon went for me!
I mention 360ADHD in the video, not an ad - but they were who I was referred to and they were good.
I'm not a doctor obviously so don't take my personal experience to be your potential experience! I'm also autistic so things tend to present in a different way for us, from what I understand, but all people are different from each other.

I wouldn’t go for 12 months interest free on the kitchen if you don’t think you’ll pay it off, see if you can get a 0% credit card for longer instead. Can usually get 36 months.

That is a decent idea. But I do think Il have it paid up by March / April ideally. Still a great idea though. Will review what’s available to me.

@@SheepdogSays just takes the pressure off, and gives you more flexibility, even if you pay off in a few months it’s still 0% so no disadvantage, you can pay larger payments when you can afford to and lower payments when you can’t, and if something else crops up that’s a higher priority to pay then you have breathing room. Or you could just divide the amount by 36 and set up a direct debit giving you more money to allocate to other things.

You lost me completely with the Pokémon battle stuff 🤣. .glad you felt a positive effect from the medication. Keep us updated (if you want obviously). I don't sleep at the best of times so goodness knows what would happen with ADHD medication. 🤣

@@SheepdogSays what you said about hearing that ADHD wouldn't have the same effect on someone without ADHD is interesting because I've been doing the exact same research wondering what would happen if the doctor got it wrong and prescribed medication for ADHD when it's something like anxiety and not ADHD at all! I guess I'm a bit more "scared" about having an ADHD assessment compared to the autism one because if for some reason I was misdiagnosed I have no idea what ADHD medication would do to me. Probably sounds ridiculous but my brain likes to think of every possibility no matter how unlikely when it comes to decision making 🤣. Then of course my brain starts saying "well if you try ADHD medication and don't find it effective that would mean you had made it all up and don't have ADHD at all!" Yeah I hate my brain 🧠,😫

Honestly! I’m sleeping either 2-8 or 4-10 at the moment depending on weekday/weekend and I’ve had half the normal wheatabix, half the lunch and no snacks in the evening so far and that’s just this past few days. It’s kind of wild to me that the urge to have more is just gone immediately. The sleep thing is bound to catch me up though, surely?!?! Haha. I yawned a little at 1:30 this morning and was like ooh ok I will get tired eventually then?! Fingers crossed I can just exist on 6 hours of decent sleep now.

Sounds like a good start on meds. Did or does caffeine make you tired or do nothing for you? I’ve read that if you have adhd caffeine kind of calms you down unlike other people it perks them up. It makes me tired, I mean really I have no get up and go right now and ignoring everything I possibly can, forget to book Luke’s flu thing at school so now he can’t have it forgot mine can’t have it the list goes on at the moment I’m loosing at life.

Aw damn if you can make that first call to the doctor the ball can roll from there and get you into a better position. Caffeine for me was like a MUST for functioning but I always felt knackered. So I’d wake up. Drink lots of it. Nap through lunch. Power through work in the PM. Crash on the sofa til stream time or tv time. Then bed at midnight. So it wasn’t making me up or down etc but I couldn’t really motivate myself to move and do stuff whereas since Friday I’ve been feeling very able to just do things. Your local pharmacy might be able to give Luke the flu thing for free or very cheap. Mine do free flu stuff. Hope things improve for you!

I've heard a similar thing. Caffeine doesn't make me tired as such but I do use coffee to help me calm down so I can focus better. I'm not diagnosed yet but I'm awaiting assessment. Definitely seems to be a common theme with caffeine effecting people who ADHD differently though.

@@SheepdogSays school said ring doctors, they said ring someone else it’s a nightmare but technically he’s booked in at some childrens center in half term hopefully I will remember, I’ve set an alarm. Ringing people is a problem for me I hate it always have, you never know what they are going to say I have to rehearse all possible answers (this sounds mad but I have always done this as normally go blank and mumble something that doesn’t make sense) I don’t drink a lot of caffeine as don’t really like coffee and I can’t drink coke anymore because of the fizz. But if I do it makes me tired I can drink it and then go to bed straight away everyone else says I have to stop drinking it early afternoon, it’s interesting.

@@crazycat1166 it’s interesting I’ve heard it quite a bit and it definitely has the opposite effect on me than others I speak to, I can drink coffee just before bed and go straight to sleep everyone else says they have to stop early afternoon. I’m going for adhd assessment soon so I guess we will know then.

@@carolinebeckwith948 apparently my attempted reply didn't work. 🤷‍♂️. But the gist of what I attempted to reply was that from speaking to other neurodiverse individuals it definitely seems caffeine affects them in a unique way. Some say as you said it makes them sleepy. For me I think it helps me regulate. But as with any condition I guess no two people will be the same.
