Great job with the sweater surgery! 🙌 Very much appreciated the real talk about ACOTAR. I rolled my eyes so much at the “vulgar gestures” and the telepathic conversations. “Vulgar gesture” conjured up memories of Ross’ “friendly finger” fist bang from Friends.

It's so refreshing to hear well thought out criticism about ACOTAR, instead of listening to everyone gushing about how "hot" and "well written" it is.

Gf I am soooooo with you on the acotar qualms (the cauldron being A CAULDRON truly is the worst thing I can possibly imagine), but I still enjoyed them so much looool Great episode! The lighting and this setup is so beautiful and the lumme is breathtaking!

Your finished sweater looks so good! I live in Florida and definitely don't need have a thick color work sweater but I need to make that sweater. Also I LOVE when you talk about media, I haven't ever consumed any of the media you talked about but I like listening to people talk about "silly" things they are passionate about. I mean silly in the best way possible like light-hearted or fun.

LOVE the complaining and ranting and reveling 😂 I’m in the same boat as you where I had some gripes with ACOTAR, but generally felt entertained. I’m working through the Throne of Glass Series and finding that I’m not as enthralled, but it is also 8 books…we shall see…On the note of the KNITTING!!! I love your Lumme and the high contrast looks so good on you!

YUP I am also trying SJM because everyone has peer pressured me into it. Started with Throne of Glass. I get the hype but you are so right on the CYA point. She writes whatever wish fulfillment she wants and then tries to randomly cover it up and make it okay. Like... the king in this book is evil because he killed so many people.... but the main character is an assassin who has just casually killed a shit ton of people her whole life. We just don't care about those ones as much bc they happened before the book started. Girl...

Also I am so here for ACOTAR slander it is yucccckkk 😂 and I will say I appreciate the next book I read after Acotar because the writing was so terrible like girl stop using the SAME PHRASES OVER AND OVER! Anyway great video Mandy 🎉

the compliment sandwich i'm dying!! i like the acotar books but everything you said is correct 😂 it has so many issues and pretty much every character is the worst with no impulse control (honestly this is just what sjm's characters are all like, the more i think about it the more characters i'm adding to my mental list). i much prefer the throne of glass series, but there are honestly better fantasy or romantasy series with better queer and bipoc rep

Ok so I'm not crazy. I heard all the hype about SJM and tried (my very best) to listen to House of earth and blood (only book of hers the audio book app I use has). I tried until my husband made me to stop due to my CONSTANT moaning. Why is everyone so muscular, toned, tanned, fit... and it is mentioned in like every other sentence? "Yeah we need to talk about the violence spreading in the town" she said while staring at his muscular body that was perfectly tanned to liquid gold. "Yes, these are dire times" he answered, while looking at her perfect cleavage, smooth hips and endless legs that attached to her fit, toned body that she liked to show wearing skin tight mini dress. I maybe made that up, but that is all my mental notes of the book after 13 hours I used listening to it. Edit: ok I read maybe this later serie has much more if this... nonsense.

Okay, belated, but don't judge all of fantasy by SJM! There's a lot of variety out there beyond what's super popular right now, though obvi it's fine if it's not your thing at all and you don't feel any kind of pull towards magical worlds and stories.

may I make a fantasy recommendation... "mist born" series by Brandon Sanderson. Much better development of the supernatural that happens in the world. more like a big kids fantasy read,,,like the author realizes that the reader is smart.
