So excited for our camino to start. We decided to follow your recommendations and we're starting our walk on May 20th in SJPDP. We only have two weeks to walk but we're going to make the most of it. You've shared so much great information I feel we're well prepared. Thank you so much!

Good choice walking from SJPDP. 2 weeks should get you all the way to Burgos. We'll be a couple days behind you.

Hi Greg, Thank you very much for your video!! So helpful. I am preparing for my 1st CdS. aiming for May 19th '24. I have been worried I'm packing too much and watching your vid really helped me know what to bring and more importantly what not to bring. Thanks again and I'll say hi if we cross paths sometime.

You might be a couple days ahead of us. We should be an SJPDP on May 22nd. You don't need as much as you think you do. Enjoy the walk. 👣

Thanks. Your videos are great. Regarding the Outdoor Research Hoodie -- I'm a 62 y/o female. I am bringing an OR hoodie because; it's very light weight, it has a hood, and it has a hole for a pony tail. I do want to let others know that it is very see-through. As a fairly modest female, I will just make sure I wear the right type of sports bra to make me feel comfortable.

Good to know. This is why I do my videos the way I do. I know there are people who do better or more professional reviews, but I try to base mine on my own personal experience and talk about the pros and cons of the product based on what I feel is important. So this issue is not something I've had to deal with. I do tend to wear darker colors though. I like the lighter weight materials and I know if I wear a white shirt, it's a little more revealing than I want at age 56.

BACKPACK ALERT! Hi Mr. Robinson, great informative videos, I'll star my Camino in next July, my backpack is an Osprey k 28L, I would like to cary on it in my international flight, so to me comply with the measures 55 x 35 x 25 cm, I just found out the my little backpack was a hair in the limit (54 cm). The air companies are very restricted about cary on luggage, so would be nice to alert that maybe bigger backpacks may not go as a cary on item. Bon Camino.

Yeah, not a bad idea to maybe do a video on this. I think every airline is a little different. I've never had any trouble carrying my pack on the long haul flights from LAX, but I do run into this in the regional flights when I'm in Europe or Asia. I mentioned it on a video a couple weeks ago, that the larger backpack may not fit the size requirements for a carry-on. If you're doing your Camino in July, seems like you could travel really light. I was considering dropping down to my 22 liter osprey talon. It's a bit smaller, but not much lighter and not quite as comfortable as the 33 l.

I strongly encourage you to ditch those jeans. Not only are they heavy, they take forever to dry, and once they do they are hard as a rock. You will be really glad you picked up some lightweight pants that will dry overnight. Buen Camino

Yup...I just needed to lose a few pounds. I'm not normally this heavy, so I don't want to buy something that will be too big in a week. I'm down about 5lbs in the last weeks, so I'm squeezing into my Adidas track pants.

Yes, I'm a bit disgusted with myself. My first Camino my pack only weighed a little more than 2 kilos. If I can lose a few pounds then I'll bring my lighter weight pants. I only bring one pair though because I only wear shorts when I walk. So the pants are just for sitting in the evening. The sandals are hard for me to give up. I've tried regular hiking sandals, but these keen sandals feel almost like wearing socks. They're very comfortable Even though they are heavy.

Good information Greg. Did your final weight include water or food? Thanks

  • @TheCaminoGuide

    @TheCaminoGuide

    2 ай бұрын

No, it's customary not to include water in the base weight of the pack. On the Camino Frances It's not really necessary to carry food unless you have a special diet. The most I would have would be a baguette and a little cheese maybe. There's cafes all along the way and grocery stores in all the towns. So no need to carry a lot of anything. **Water weighs 1kg/liter, so I only carry a 500ml bottle of water. There are a lot of fountains and cafes on the Frances route, so I just drink as much as I can at each fountain and then top off my bottle. So my max water weight will be 1 lb (0.5 kg) and if I have any food in there, it's only a few ounces

What made you do the Frances again? I'm trying out the norte at the end of this month.

It depends on the reason you are walking. I'm pretty isolated at home, so I'm not really looking for the solitude of the alternative routes. Most people walk the Camino Frances, So if you are looking for the social atmosphere, that's where you will meet people. If you are looking only for scenery and something different, then one of the alternative routes might be better. There are more facilities, restaurants and albergues on the Frances. So there is less to think about as far as carrying food or water. I'm familiar with the route and I look forward to getting back each time. It feels like home.

Sorry...I posted it at the start, about 40 seconds in (printed on the screen). I thought about making everyone wait for the big finale, but decided to just give the number (9.4 lbs) and if people are interested in the specific items, they can stick around. I'm trying to get a couple of pounds lighter, but I seem to have put on a couple of inches in my waist and can't fit in my light weight pants. I don't want to buy a new pair of "fat pants" that will be too big after a week of walking, so I'm trying to lose a few lbs before I have to leave. I cut a few carbs this week and down about 3 lbs so far. A couple more and I can swap my "fat jeans" for my hiking pants. I think I'll get there...

I know... I'm disappointed myself. I need to lose about 5 lb before I go so I can fit into my hiking pants. I may get there. I just didn't want to have to buy another pair of pants that I can only wear when I'm fat.

I've been fasting this week. I'm down 5 lbs so far. I have a pair of Adidas track pants that are more like windbreaker material, lighter than their normal ones. They weigh only 8oz. As long as I lay off the donuts, I should be able to just bring those.
