I really want Lily Gladstone to win, it’d be great to see that kind of subdued performance get recognized when we’ve been so conditioned to think good acting = most acting. Not a shade to Emma Stone at all, she was great in Poor Things and she’d be a great winner as well, it’s just that I think Lily does a type of performance that’s equally challenging and deserving of praise that often gets unfair shade because of “not doing enough”.

Oscars always waaay too influenced by narratives every year. Its fun to celebrate the year of film but the awards mean nothing as far as what and who were the best.

You must not have kept up with much of the precursors. You were surprised American Fiction was #1 for Adapted Screenplay when it has won Critics Choice, BAFTA & USC Scripter Award. And there's a possibility that it will win WGA. I don't think Barbie has a chance of winning Adapted Screenplay.

  • @hydqjuliilq27

Yeah Barbie might be way more popular but it still has the label of “corporate-made blockbuster” hanging over it. Oppenheimer might technically be a blockbuster but it’s r-rated and not peddling toys. These above the line awards are pretty much always saved for movies that are indie, auteur-led, or have strong dramatic chops. AF might not be many people’s first choice for a screenplay win but it’s way more consistent with the academy’s usual taste than Barbie.

It’s unfortunate that the same 10 movies get nominated for every award, with some blockbuster movies thrown in randomly. You’re telling me that out of all of the hundreds of movies that released this year, only about 20 should be represented here? There’s no way Oppenheimer is the best in all of the categories it’s gonna win. But that’s award season for ya.

Maestro will lose. I explain why in a video I posted on my KZread channel titled THE REAL MAESTRO. The press made Bernstein their sacred cow and slanted all the coverage. While conducting all 9 of Beethoven's Symphonies on TV, he purposely made them sound noisy, even adding more trumpets to create a trumpet heavy sound. Then he does an interview where he says, "Beethoven's orchestrations are BAD! He has the trumpets sticking out! They're drowning out everybody else." He commits vandalism against Beethoven and then lies about him to diminish his stature. As a conductor, Bernstein was a fraud. This movie treats him like the Saint of Classical Music. I predict it will only win MakeUp.
