OMG! You are the first KZreadr reader I got to hear Murakami Books from! His one of my Favorite author although I have only read 5 books written by him so far which are Kafka on the shore, Norweigian wood, Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and his years of pilgrimage, Sputnik Sweatheart, and After Dark. I really like his writing style (credits to the translators as well) and the stories were just so interesting! 😄

First time visiting your channel and had to comment. You have amazing taste in books (or just similar to mine) and I want to thank you for reminding me of The magic toyshop, which was an obscure little book (Angela Carter isn't well known in Sweden) that I got for free from my local library when I was a child. The story stuck with me long after I lost the book but I hadn't thought about it for some years now. You reminded me of it, and now I have to find a copy. I've read and loved nearly everything on your list, and those that I haven't read yet I will definitely pick up since they must be amazing. Thank you and hope to see more videos soon.

I'm sure I will enjoy many books you mentioned since I now know we have similar taste! Thank you 😊

Hi Christy, I stumbled across your video today and I cannot tell you how excited I got when you brought up Diana Wynne Jones! Both Howl's Moving Castle and the Charmed Life series changed my entire perspective on literature when I was a kid. I hate reading until I came across her books. It's so great to hear someone talk about them and feel the same way about these books that I do. Great list overall.

Love Norwegian Wood so much, & Frankenstein is one of my favourites as well as I've always loved gothic horror, so it was great to see them both mentioned here. My favourite book though has to be Cold Mountain by Charles Fraser. I read Cold Mountain in high school & it's stuck with me ever since. Also if you haven't read them already I'd highly recommend Snow Falling On Cedars by David Guterson & What Dreams May Come by Richard Mattheson, they are both amazing books & very beautifully written.

Even though I'm 20 and a Adult(TM) I just really love young adult books, especially fantasy, though I feel slightly embarrassed about it because it seems childish. YA isn't childish at all!! I couldn't put my favourites on the list because I ran out of space but there are a number of YA books I love. 'The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making' is a middle grade I adore, plus I love 'The Hunger Games' and 'Looking for Alaska'. For me though, YA is really hit and miss but you shouldn't ever have to apologise for what you love. Which ones do you like?? 💛 (I'm glad you appreciated Ginger hahaha I was so worried she would be annoying on the audio.)

Christy Anne Jones I love Rick Riordan especially the Percy Jackson series (though that’s more middle grade), Garth Nix, some John Green and Rainbow Rowell, Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom, Whisper by Chrissie Keighery. Tamora Pierce is one of my all time favourite authors and I really want to read Terry Pratchett. I’ve kinda stopped reading books much as I’ve gotten older and I want to get back into being a bookworm haha

Hello! I just found your channel! I have not read a lot of these books, but The Bell Jar is my favorite book! I didn't really know much about it before I got and and read it. I have a copy that has extra 'About the author' kind of information at the back and it was then after I finished the book that I realized it's considered semi-autobiographical. I then wanted to know how much of what happened to Esther happened to Sylvia in real life and I went on a rampage of looking up as much as I could about Sylvia Plath. I pretty much consider it an autobiography, but with proper nouns changed. Since then I've read a few biographies about her and parts of her journals. It actually took me like 3 years to realize it was my favorite book. It's a book I think about almost every day and, despite never being clinically depressed or having suicidal thoughts/actions myself, Esther is the character in all the literature I've read that I relate to the most. So I moved it up from my second favorite book to number one. The Picture of Dorian Gray is also a favorite book of mine! And I'm also really into film, so now I'm going to check out your favorite movies video that you mention! :)

Suddenly have come to your videos and suddenly come to like writing comment though my English is far from perfect as you see. I really love Woolf too. She had a typical beautiful talent which I call feminine. My favorites are Mrs.Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves. I only read them in my first language Japanese but her words and sentences are pure beauty and too deep that even could hurts you. Absolutely amazing. And Ishiguro too. I prefer Remains of the Day but Never Let Me Go is touching also. I read his interview about the novel, he said that the plot and storytelling was created to create childhood atmosphere, like they know but we don't know and sometimes we pretend we know. That's why I had nostalgic feeling when I read it for the first time. In the end I want to put some recommendations from Japanese literature since you are interested in Japan (I'm glad with that). There's three modern writers who represent Japanese sense, Junichiro Tanizaki, Yasunari Kawabata, and Yukio Mishima. I don't want to bother anyone by too long comment so I don't write much about them, but Kawabata is must read anyway. Oh! And not only modern but classical Japanese literature is also interesting. Check them! :D Thanks for nice videos!

I just discovered your channel thanks to a good friend of mine who really knows me. You lived in Japan, I traveled there last month, I always dreamt to visit this country. You love Harry Potter and Murakami you read to books from him I loved too. I advise you also from him, Kafka on the shore and the famous 1Q84 ans everything from him. I almost have all of his books I'm passionate about his universe that I made an entiere video about him. In French sorry 😅 I recently bought Mrs Dalloway and I can't wait to read it. For the magic toyshop I was very surprised you talked about it, because I studied it during my literature classes at university and I didn't like it. Didn't like the teacher actually 😂Exactly like Never let me go. Studied it too in at uni. I loved Frankenstein either. Amazing. Doll's house is one of my favorite play. Read it twice. Love Hamlet too cause we played it in high school. The picture of Dorian Gray is so good! I have the impression you are currently in my library right now, cause youre talking about books I read or I have it is pretty creepy 😂😂I can't wait to watch all of your videos!!

Aww, kitty cat! Nobody would mind some soothing cat purrs in the background, I'm sure. And we are all human and change our minds over time, so it's fully acceptable to make an update later on in life, whether to add or subtract some works.

Loved to see Harry Potter start off the list, an absolute classic. And I recently got introduced to Murakami. Currently reading 1Q84 and really enjoying it so far. Also, thank you recommending so many books.

You and I are so much alike. I also love Harry Potter. That was the first novel i read. I also wanted to become writer after reading Harry Potter. (I still want though). I even wrote my own version of Harry Potter. Recently I read Norwegian woods and i loved that.

I used to LOVE fallen and hush, hush. I literally was obsessed with them as a teen. But now that I’m older I think those books portray abuse :/ and I can’t look at them the same.

I read a book written by Murakami once, the story is good but I found the translation caused the sentences to have an odd structure and it gave me a big headache.

It’s impossible to tell how closely our tastes align. I dislike Harry Potter (although, to be fair, I’ve only read the first one), Frankenstein and Murakami, but I revere Angela Carter, Plath, Woolf and Ishiguro. Have you seen the film of Never Let Me Go? I’ve taught the novel and have read it multiple times, but the film actually moves me more than the book.

It is quite like the movie! Very similar in plot. I love that it explores Howl's personality more. And it gives a lot more detail about the setting. There are only a few slight changes, but the general story is pretty similar. If you like the movie, you should totally read the book! 😊

A new book called " A Heart's Journey " by Beth Howard is available at Dorrancebookstore.com. A charming read about a woman who left her abusive husband and traveled to England to stay with relatives. She struggles to stay positive and restore faith in herself. She makes friends while working in a pub and a real love gives her self-confidence and more.
