My Favorite Pet (A.K.A The Best Pet)

Фильм және анимация

Today is the day I finally reveal my most favorite pet (in my opinion, is one of the coolest things out there) then I reflect on some of my most memorable experiences.

It was funny reading some guesses from the pets video. Someone said a lobster xp. A few people actually got it right so good job. Also good job if you are actually reading this (I feel like people don't) Honestly though, there was so much that I wanted to say about this creature, not enough to put in just one video...so maybe I'll make another one in the future.

    If you want an invertebrate that CAN bond with you, I recommend a jumping spider. While they may not be capable of full affection, they can bond with their owners to a greater degree than most, if not all invertebrates, and they can be handled, taught tricks, and they’re just full of personality compared to most invertebrates. I have one myself, and his personality is just growing and changing every day. He’s super food motivated, smart, mischievous, curious, naughty, but also very friendly, and he likes to escape his enclosure, and sit on the enclosure’s outer wall, door, or roof. I love him so much.

    My heart wouldn't be able to handle the loss of so many in such a short timespan. But I adore them and their skeptical faces that seem to stare into your soul. Centipedes are my weakness. I raise them as babies and as they get bigger I get more and more attached to them. My son Brimley is my golden apple. He's a highly venomous Centipede (arguably the most venomous centipede) from Raiu Island, and is only a year old, but he's already 4 inches in length. When I got him, he was smaller than my pinky and very shy, but now I can handle him and give him chin rubs. Seriously, if you wanna develop a mutual bond with an invert, these are just as good, if not better than octopi.

    I use to have a praying mantis (more specifically a Chinese mantid) and I kept it for two weeks and LOVED IT! It lived in a giant glass jar stuffed with branches and stuff. Then the inevitable happens. It was a sunny summer day and she puts the jar outside. She didn’t think of the fact that a glass jar is basically a magnifying glass….yeah didn’t end well. I came home from school and look at my Mario in his home, his normally green eyes…were brown. I had a hard time with that one. Especially since my mom BAKED my awesome mantid! RIP Mario! You may be gone but never forgotten.

    This made me miss my pet Carolina mantis Ipoaf. I found her in her 5th instar and kept her for several months; she had such personality and would happily chill on my hand. Sometimes struck some really funny poses with her arms out and had a very kind looking face. Just the most charming little creacher who was beloved by me and the rest of my entomology class. She laid four oothecas and eventually passed the day after Halloween. I'm still hoping at least one will hatch; I did find her a mate and I saw them, uh, in action, so as long as that was successful there's a chance! (In fact multiple eggs could be fertilized from one mating session, because mantises can retain sperm!) I have two experiencing cool temperatures(makes them more dormant so they will more likely overwinter until spring) and two in a terrarium, since I'm not sure which would give them the best chances. Edit: oh I should mention the name Ipoaf is actually an acronym for Illegal Possession Of A Firearm because she was pink and green when I found her, which made me think heehoo Splatoon colors. I have a theme of naming my outdoor pets(aka just mantises that have lived on my plant so far) after crimes. It all started when I bought a rock rose for a horticulture class and asked my online friends to help me name it so I would get attached and actually take care of it, and short story shorter they all unanimously voted Tax Fraud after someone suggested that. So now I can say taking a horticulture class led to Tax Fraud, Murder, Jaywalking, and Illegal Possession Of A Firearm and not technically be lying!

  • @avanelletheclockfriend2515

    @avanelletheclockfriend2515

    9 ай бұрын

    @@gwammeh I’m not sure which ones but two of the four did indeed hatch! :> And I actually ended up raising(sorta) one of the babies myself to continue Ipoaf’s legacy. I released them all on her favorite plant as they hatched and eventually chose one to bring back inside once they were big enough to be past the stage of random infant mortality, and because it’s much easier to find food for bigger mantises. Her name is Green Bean Casserole and she’s been a mature adult for a couple of weeks now. I’m hoping I’ll get lucky and find her a mate before it gets too cold, but I’m not sure since the weather has been pretty unpredictable this year. At the very least I did find a different mantis who was very, very fat- wasn’t sure if she was heavily egg-laden or had just had the greatest feast of her life. I ended up keeping her in a terrarium temporarily as we had a severe thunderstorm on the way and if she’d been knocked down and fallen so much as a foot I imagine she would’ve died. I’m glad I decided to do that, as not only did the storm end up bringing some golfball sized hail along with the heavy rain, but strong winds as well; lots of downed branches and a few downed trees, as well as so many acorns that probably would’ve felt like hail under the trees. When I went to release the mantis in the morning I found her almost finished laying the biggest Carolina mantis ootheca I’ve ever seen, so even if I can’t guarantee Ipoaf’s hemolymphline continues through Green Bean Casserole, I might be able to start a different line of captive-bred mantises next year.

    Update: found GBC a mate tonight! He’s particularly pathetic looking even among male Carolina mantises but I’m sure he has a great personality. It’s what’s on the inside that counts anyways, and I’m sure even a twig like him will have some protein!

It's great that you were able to appreciate and care for so many, though. 1:16 Same... My two bunnies passed away and every now and then I'd dream of them, wake up, and get depressed when I realize that it's just a dream... It gets so tiring... I really want a dog, but I think I'm going to wait a decade or two before getting one, so that after he dies, I won't have to wait tooo long before I follow. For now, I catch bugs and make them my pets. I've never seen a praying mantis in person before. They're so beautiful, especially the orchid mantis. It's a shame that they only live for a year... For now, I have an army of firebrats and common silverfish. They always appear in the house from cracks in the walls and stuff. The firebrats are fast, but the common silverfish are relatively slower, so they're fun to watch walking around on my hands. The brats can live up to 5 years and the fish can live up to 8, and that's a pretty good life expectancy for an insect. I keep them all in a petri dish. I just cut out a piece of paper for them and give them a few oats, and they can thrive on just that. I also have a sheet of paper towel in the container with them that I drop a few droplets of water on everyday 'cause they need water to survive, and that's about it. The petri dish helps to keep the towel damp for a while. I clean the dish every once or twice a month. I don't know why more people don't keep them as pets. Probably because of their prehistoric look. They're easy to take care of, they don't smell bad, they don't fly, and they live for years.

    Honestly. Praying mantises are my comfort animal, I love them and my mom may let me get one as a pet. The only problem is we own two cats as well, so we don’t know what’ll go down 💀

    My neighbor found a Brown praying mantis, I found and released a green one at the DVD schoolyard, and my mom, (when she was a kid) went to go get her butterfly net, but there was a praying mantis perched on it, and it slowly turned its head to look at her, and she's been traumatised of praying mantises ever since.
