A choice i can think about are definitely Piccolo, Shikamaru, and Izuku Midoriya, and All Might. Nameks are interesting in their own right. He's not the strongest but he uses his knowledge to help others improve. I mention Izuku because he was born into world where being born without a power is an oddity. As i watched mha i couldn't help but become invested in his growth as a character sure there were missed opportunities to help but he is a good character in my book.

Spike from Cowboy Bebop is a good choice but I'd choose Faye Valentine. You really don't see enough beautiful femme fatale's in anime anymore.
