That moment after a song like this ends, and you have that deep exhale, and your hand slowly drapes down your face. You know something undeniably, beautifully real has just happened, and there’s fuckin weight to it. We all miss these two so god damn much.

You CAN'T TELL ME on some level...they weren't unspokenly in love with eachother. The chemistry here is one not even an Academy Award Winning actor can fake!

Actually I can tell you that, no one has any proof of the reason for the split but it is telling that he is continuing to work and she has kind of disappeared. Her husband was their manager and was always involved in the performances and recordings.

@@NOAH2023 We all get lost in the idea of if there was a sexual relationship. That’s the wrong question to ask. They were both married and I do think their emotional relationship was getting out of control. There’s an undeniable chemistry. It’s almost as if their songs tell the state of their relationship at the time. There’s a reason Same Old Same Old is one of their last songs.

I am very grateful to Joy and John Paul for doing something not many could have done. Having found the harmony of their voices, they decided to make the most intimate music there is in the 21st century. Of course, there is chemistry and they knew it, and they pushed themselves to truly explore it despite the fact that they had significant others and they all must have suspected it would put a strain on the relationships. I feel like they continued asblong as they could, and after three years of an emotionally turbulent journey, neither party could take it anymore. I believe them when they say they had creative differences and tension but seeing how normally lovely these people are, I am certain that all the conflicts at the end were driven by the consequences of their deeply intimate, personal creative relationship. I am so, so grateful because I can only imagine how difficult this personally must have been for them and their families, all for the sake of music. That's why I think most of their songs are so overwhelmingly bittersweet... "Don't you fret my dear... It will all be over soon..."

"Neither party" could take it? Joy's comments sure make it sound like she did not have a problem. John Paul is the one who shut everything down. I assume his wife was the driving force on that and I cannot blame her (or him) if that's the case.

I forever consider myself lucky that I saw them live in some random venue in Ft Lauderdale in January 2012 and they signed my album cover.

Whenever I watch a video of them performing I find myself mostly looking at my keyboard because it just feels so intimate.

it's like they just grabbed a camera guy, went into the middle of the woods and dropped this devastatingly beautiful song effortlessly. i watch this video daily at least once, and am just captivated by it every time. probably the best 3:28 on youtube.

I don't think i've ever heard 2 voices and a guitar sound sweeter. Their harmonizing and patience with the notes is what makes them special. Truly an angelic duo these two.

I miss them. The way she looks at him.. i don't want to call it easy to decode.. but you can see that she's got this immensely powerful attraction to him. It's so strong that even if she's trying to hold it back, it's emanating from her like a beacon. For him, it's brooding... it's dark. I guess the whole fact that she's married, he seems to stop himself from getting lost in her to the point of no return. But it's there...wow. They're so damn talented.

THIS is music. Minimal and beautiful with nothing but nature in the background. True talent.

They're like two birds sweetly singing to one another 💕

There's something heartwrenchingly beautiful about them. About what they can make you feel. The way their voices combine and create another layer of complexity and a haunting beauty. How when watching them, you feel as if you've intruded on the panging tension of two people who love each other but are not together. How once you start listening, you never want to stop.

I know she's married so don't take this the wrong way. But the way they look at each other, it proves that music is super powerful. It's amazing, they're both so in love with their music that people see it as them loving each other. It's so so beautiful.

Their harmonies are so flawless and their connection is so intense. It's almost as if their souls combine when they play and sing together. They really are amazing artists.

Based on the way they’re looking at each other, I can see why they broke up. You can’t share that kind of chemistry and sustain a healthy marriage to another person. There comes a point where you have to draw the line.

I left a comment year's ago, about these two! And a guy claimed to work with them, and he said they had an affair, and John Paul wanted to try and keep his marriage if he could. And Joy got divorced, but I have no idea if it's true

Just came back to this video after some years, and it’s just as powerful as it always was. I know they both have their own partners but god damn! The chemistry here is simply undeniable. I’ve played and sang their music with a girl before, and there is simply no getting around the chemistry that you share with someone when playing this style of music. It goes beyond words, and beyond convention, and anyone who’s done it knows exactly what I’m talking about

I think their music is so great because they do have such an intimate connection when they sing. That doesn't necessarily mean that have one outside of their music, though. They really feed off of each other when they sing together and you can hear/see that very clearly.

I tried to look up body language, to see what they said about blinking excessively ,but they only mention blinking in a normal setting, when you first meet someone! But in the cat world slow blinks mean affection!

Be nice to see both come back again........ really miss the music they both made.

You know what I love about these two? The way they sing so close to one another. There's something beautiful about how they sway together in perfect harmony, and the way they gaze lovingly into each others eyes. You honestly would think they were madly in love with one another.

You have to love these two people! Close your eyes and you can hear that train blowing that whistle coming threw the mountain pass rushing to pick up at the next stop. Love the setting of the video as well.

I believe someday there will be a TCW reunion. because nothing they've done separately, is even close to the what they did together. The music they did as TCW, especially the Poison and Wine EP and the Barton Hollow album is superlative. Charlie Peacock deserves credit for the outstanding production and mix. Their last album felt thrown together, as a result of the fact they had broken up. Maybe someone will make them an offer they can't refuse, to fully commit to one more great album. They don't even have to tour, just write and record.

These two.... I love them together and alone. They both are so amazingly talented. While I'm still sad over the departure of The Civil Wars. I'm happy to have these musical masterpieces of their voices together.

I think its safe to say that this beautifully illustrates the nature of their relationship. Its not romantic, its musical. They both operate on another level of musicality that they can unlock with the other person. Its stupid to say they dont have a relationship, but theirs is one that isnt dependent on physical attraction or some kind of secret sexuality. Its a beautiful, trusting, safe, and co-depenent orchestration of their musical talent. And how does this not have more views?!?!

Judging by how short of a time they were together as a “band”- it would be hard to develop a super strong emotional connection in such a small amount of time. Having said that- the way she looks at him (in numerous videos) is that of a girl who is drunk in beautiful love with the guy she’s staring at….you’d be stupid to deny this. it doesn’t take a body language expert to decipher the way they ARE around each other. Whether the feeling was mutual or not- it’s obvious this was the reason for the breakup….. oh yeah...good song. lol.
