Agreed that some people want to give her money, however, I would strongly doubt she'd get anything close to the 60K required. And while getting 2-3K is always handy to have on hand, it's not going to make much of a dent in her incoming debt. So my advise to the young woman would be, prove me wrong you can get that financed through GoFundMe or whatever, but prepare to be disappointed, and have a plan B ready in that case. If she's ready for that information, she might open her mind to other options, like actively looking for scholarships, or a novel idea, waiting for that graduate a couple of years, get some experience which will probably help her pursuing that degree later in life, too. GoFundMes are for people who are desperate, mostly, imo, and she's not desperate. It might not be her dream trajectory to wait, but it's not the end of the world, and yes, other opportunities will come.

EXACTLY - let her find out that the public at large is not interested in funding her education. It must be nice to expect other people to pay for your opportunity to make $100 plus K on other peoples dime. When YOU are invested in your education, YOU will be much more inclined to stick with it.

Most advanced programs in medicine (MD, DO, NP, PA) usually require you to apply broadly, and you don’t end up in your home state depending on where your state of residency is. For example, in California getting into an in-state MD program is extremely competitive and you’ll mostly like have to go out-of-state, whereas in Oregon it’d be more realistic to stay in-state.

Get back to ME and I’ll help with some of the expenses. Seriously, I helped my Dad run a business after going to school during the day to put me through school. It wasn’t easy, but I had no debt when I got finished. I couldn’t breathe carrying the school loan debt some of these callers share with Dave.

I understand a lot of the commenters may segment family but some families are really close. It’s just so interesting to see so many people assume secret motives of a guy who has said nothing more than “I don’t want her to make these mistakes if I can help it”. He may not be able to stop her, but I certainly don’t think it’s a crime to care, especially if he has to hear about it from other family all the time.

Same! I went $36k into debt to go to a private college and my family was *BROKE*, and not ONE person in my life (close relation or distant cousin lol) told me I was making a mistake or should consider a different school, or go get a job first and save. They all drank the Koolaid along with me. And now guess what I make a year with my fancy degree... $36k 🤦‍♀️ For the record - it was for a specialized degree that was only offered at this school near me. The next closest I would have had to move and definitely didn't have the money to pay for that. Also, it was $36k *per year*. Thankfully I got grants and loans enough to cover 3/4 of the cost. Can't imagine the hole I'd be in now if that wasn't the case!

There’s always another way. If that doors locked and I don’t have the key, you better bet I’m finding a different path! “Where there’s a will there’s a way”

Anyone that is worried about their extended family's finances needs to get a life. Also, it's not about their relationship. It's about the fact that he feels that he has the key to her success. It is not his place to discuss her finances. If she wants to start a GoFundMe, let her do it. She's dealing with something that every other sensible human being on this planet has to deal with, so if these people are stupid enough to do something that nice for someone who doesn't truly deserve it, then they can do that. He just needs to worry about his own finances before he decides that he's going to try and fix hers.

Alex Norway Does everyone get to go to college in Norway regardless of academic qualifications? Higher education institutions in USA milk government loans to super inflate prices for nonessential courses. It is mostly a scam unless for medicine, STEM, accounting etc.

I don't think you understand what "free" means. The teachers are still getting paid. The campus was expensive and might even still have a mortgage. People are paying for college, whether they go or not. The people that are benefitting from a college degree gain something at the expense of everyone. That's the LEAST equitable model I can think of. Additionally, it eliminates a substantial incentive to succeed.

  • @jamieshannon9809

@@---cr8nw Finally someone else who realises that free isn't actually "free". EVERYTHING WE DO IN LIFE bears some cost. The main costs are Time and Money. In the UK after 30 years if you haven't paid off your college education costs/grants/loans - it gets written off. I'd like to see people try the same procedure with their mortgage or loan providers. I think it might end up differently.

No Master Programs school will accept you without a license and experience. The "girl" doesn't even have her RN license. Something just doesn't add up.

This is dumb, lots of RNs work & do their NP training simultaneously. Not only that she needs more time as a RN to become a well grounded NP. I see it all the time with other RN. I have an associate degree x4 but bail out MSN RNs when I do Rapid Response because I’m an RN/ Paramedic with 20 years experience in Emergency & Critical Care Medicine. MA is not an RN. Let a hospital system pay for your school. Plenty of opportunities out there. She needs to keep searching. 👍🇺🇸💡

Cousins are basically brothers and sisters to us since we're often raised in the exact same house and your auntie feeds you, clothes you and yells at you the exact same way your momma does. And you love both the same...
