make the wedding child free, make no exceptions and refuse to babysit for them and also announce that you are expecting at one of their major events and if they ever say something just say Don't be so jealous of the new addition of the family. I thought you loved kids.

This was so frustrating to hear!!! Just because SIL said it was about OP and fiancé they thought that was enough? And the guts of SIL to ask if it was all OP dreamt of?!?! His family is so selfish!!! He needs to grow a pair and speak his mind!!

The reason Rachel told OP to not plan anything wasn't because they were planning anything special for the engaged couple. The reason she told him not to plan anything was because Rachel had already decided to make it all about themselves and their kids. Had OP made a bunch of plans to celebrate their engagement they wouldn't have been able to make it all about Rachel and all the kids.

Sounds about par for the course. Op and fiancé might want to consider postponing the wedding and go LC. Just keep saying everything is fine and eventually the family will just straight up ignoring them and best to elope then and keep living life for themselves after the marriage.

One of my pet peeves is people whose favourite activity is reminiscing. It has its place, but I’ve been at family gatherings where it was dragged out through the whole event, just like in this story. It reeks of people wishing they could return to the past and not appreciating the present. So in OP’s shoes, I would have been annoyed even if I were included, which he clearly wasn’t. I’d start reducing contact with that family.

My ex's friend group were like that, every gathering turned into stories from high school. Then they would make comments afterwards to her privately that I didn't make much effort or engage with the group. Hard to do when there's no shared interests or hobbies.

Should try talking to his parents or brother about it before talking to Rachel about tf happened to a weekend about them not being so
