Anyone who has ever experienced anything close to 500 hp in a short bed pickup knows, that's going to be a riot. In a world of 1000-2500 hp KZread builds, it's nice to see a build still based in reality. Not a ford guy, but I still appreciate someone who builds a motor and is brave enough to stick it right on a Dyno. This is how you break in a motor that you want to perform. Start, warm it up(vary rpm between 2and 3k). Then put a load on it and give it the beans. My friends dad used to put every ford/Chevy motor he built for a customer in a 1 ton truck to break it in hauling a 3500lb gooseneck trailer. Probably did 20 like that, as soon as it was warmed up, and the cam has time to break in, it was pulling 10,000 lbs down the road as hard as it could. The Camaro that got a small block done that way was frickin scary.

That is an accomplishment. I still remember putting my fresh balanced and tuned 421 HO from my 1963 Grand Prix on the Dyno.. I had heard of Power around 450. But when It did 650 I almost passed out. Those where the days of Street Racing.

You take care of the bottom end of a Ford and it'll take care of you. I had a 40 over, non-stroked 302 built in the mid 70s. Believing a 8K Motorola tach would be the limit I found out it wasn't, 9300K on another liquid Motorola. It was a big block stomper-those chevy and poncho owners hated me, literally hated me to the point of near fights. Then I dropped in the stroked 351/406.

@@dennisrobinson8008 Both of those builds were done by a shop in Quincey Illinois, '73-'74. Since my last surgery I've big memory gaps, that sleep juice is a M'F'er. I just tried calling an old friend, think he's asleep. They were a big fan of the 302 Boss clevor style with their own version. They were better known for dirt track power than street/strip but had no problem doing them either. Some of the stuff I never even knew what it was, they had it, told me what it would do, hand over the cash. Tight lipped with info, several builders of circle track engines in that part of the country. I never knew the hp, I never expected those RPMs, but those needed the RPMs for torque. I left the lights at 4200. I actually had another local dirt track builder that built mostly MOPAR do my 340, stroked only, for my '64 Barracuda, he was as tight lipped too. If ol' John-Hollywood-can remember more than this I'll do a complete different reply instead of edit so ya get the nitice.

But that engine would be a total different animal in your foxbody or a fairlane. Eitherway its going to be awesome to see it in your truck.

Sounds great! Back in 1980 I had a 289 in a ‘62 Ranchero that I shifted at 7200 RPM. It ran 11.80’s. Never dyno’d but back then there was no aftermarket for SBF’s as the 5.0 wasn’t born yet. Old factory heads, rods, distributor, etc. with good heads/cam and more RPM I suspect it would run 10’s in today’s world....

How is this one doing today? Before your build for high rpm builds we'd seek 69-71 blocks or boss 302 blocks with thicker mains and thicker castings or an aftermarket block. The "thinwall casting" 79-94 "5.0" mustang block was not really desireable for that, we'd think you'd harmonics would crack the mains and they would crack or down the lifter valley which you know is super thin. Knowing we can get into a high rpm build at a lower cost point is attractive. Did you stay with that 270@.050" cam that you mentioned early in the series because later on I heard something about an Anderson cam or did i hear wrong?
