    i would say a huge pro is the application and hiring process. idk many jobs that will hire you sight unseen, and allow you to pick if you are a FT or PT schedule AND pick your days and shift time. Thats the main reason I applied.

    Traditional work ethic is hard to find anymore and that’s sad. I see people at customer service jobs all the time just…being lazy and rude and I’m like…THEY have a job and I don’t. I’ve been looking for months. Why. How? Companies should be getting rid of the lazy in the probationary period more and giving positions to people that make their company look good by working hard, competent, and honest.

    I just started my job at an amazon Delivery Station. Its tough physically, but easy to learn and pretty stress free... I got tired of the stressful, faced paced food service jobs that pay half of what Amazon is paying. Just 2 days in and the managers know my name already cause I was keeping the 2nd to fastest rate... Im going faster than most experienced employees on my second day. 😑 I mean, I am used to the 10 to 12 hour shifts, not a problem. Staying on my feet the whole time, not a problem. Used to faced paced work places, very much so. So yeah, I know I have a head start compared to other new employees who will need time to adjust to the physical strain. My only real complaint with Amazon so far is the management is chaos, they don't know who is in charge of what when they start the shift and they look more at the numbers instead of the employees, they dont have answers to half of the questions they get asked, and every time you bring up a problem about the warehouse, they say they are working on that, or will look into it, but I havent seen them take action on anything... At least there is no reason for me to stress at Amazon, my rate is good, I'm getting paid twice as much as any food service or retail would pay, and its very hard to get fired unless you lack common sense.

    I don't know where you're located, but here in Massachusetts, fast food and retail jobs pay $15 to $18 per hour to start, depending on your work shift. So the wages aren't enough of an incentive for even a high school kid to put up with Anazon's abuse. There's one particular location in Mass that has such a high turnover rate, they ALWAYS have hundreds of openings throughout the entire year - every year since they first opened. Anyway, before watching this video, I HAD planned on applying for one of the part-time shifts until Christmas. I'm almost 61, and I only weigh around 115, so even though I CAN lift 50 pounds pretty consistently, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't be able to keep the same pace as a 35 year old guy with an athletic build.

    Regarding how people were able to exceed quotas while barely doing any work, I called them "small pirates." They sail from aisle to aisle, looking for totes to plunder, oftentimes abandoning their own designated work areas to "focus down" the perfumes, books, infant onesies, and other tiny bric-a-bree items. You go around working three to four totes in fifteen minutes, you've already hit your quota and can go into the breakroom and spend the rest of the hour chatting with the other so-called top performers. We had plenty of pirates who would constantly yell out "Hey, what's my rate?" every few minutes, and as soon as the QC replied that they were above the minimum, that was it for the next hour or so, they'd wander off and take an extended break. Meanwhile, those same small pirates would flat out refuse to work the heavy boxes (too slow), but those boxes still needed to be stowed quickly, or they'd jam up the lanes and eventually get your side of the building written up. So you'd have the actual hard workers slamming out lawnmowers and weight sets and loveseats and other large items, falling behind on their quota chasing the top performers around to keep the belt clear. Ironically, I was a top performer myself, and the main way I kept my rate up was by *literally* growling and snarling at people who came down my assigned lanes all fake chirpy helpful, "hey, you're falling behind, I'll go ahead and stow your smalls for you." After a few weeks of that, they finally were too scared to come by and steal my quota-busters, so I'd knock out my assigned lanes in one half hour and then spend the other half "floating" to other areas that actually needed help catching up. (Mostly by stowing their oversize boxes...) Half the building hated me because I was "impossible to work with," including some of the managers who'd come by for humiliation tours (showing the poor abused newbies how easy it was to keep your rate up, by forcing them to watch the "this isn't even my job and I can do it" manager scan dozens of smalls in a few minutes and then smugly show off their freshly minted rate) because I'd aggressively shoo them away, I didn't need their "help." The other half adored me and begged to be assigned to the same side as me so they could go home on time for a change... I'd still regularly catch those pirates scurrying like cockroaches out of my aisles when I came back from helping someone else, with half-finished totes left sitting smack in the middle of the lane for anyone to trip on, but eventually I got good enough at predicting when the smalls were coming that I'd make it back to my area before the totes even started coming down the belt, and that put a stop to it.

  • @josephr7684

    @josephr7684

    2 жыл бұрын

    Also, just an aside anecdote. Those "free break cards" they hand out to top performers as incentives ain't worth squat. I never got to cash one in, and eventually I asked the manager if I could just turn in a stack of them and take the whole shift off with pay. She laughed and said "Maybe, but you'll have to push really hard and earn a lot more of them before we can test that." So I went to my locker, grabbed my wallet, and came back all "Here's thirty, is that enough?" Word got around and I never got another break card after that. And I've still got that old wallet with all those greasy, poorly laminated slips of paper that I couldn't ever cash in.

    Saw an older black woman on maintenance, been with the company for over two decades, get trapped with a five dollar bill. Manager casually dropped it in front of her and sped off, ignoring her quiet "hey, John, hey, John, hey, John..."s. She picked it up, put it on her cleaning cart, and by the time she wheeled it back to the office to turn it in, they already had her paperwork written up for stealing. I also got fired for stealing. Apparently, a check went missing from a coworker's register and they found it in my locker. Three things that I mentioned to the officer in charge of my case: First, each cashier has a different login that times out within thirty seconds of idling / no activity, so the only way I'd be able to take a check from their register is if they left it open and walked away. Second, whenever we handle checks, they get a huge "VOID" stamped over them automatically, so the only way I'd be able to steal a usable check is if the cashier didn't process the payment in the first place. Third, after five years of working there, I still hadn't ever been assigned a locker, and here's all the email correspondence I have with the manager asking her when one was going to be available and her replying that I was still out of luck, someone else got it before me, but she'd keep me in mind next time one was available. Including one such email I received a week *after* she allegedly found a stolen check in my locker. 🤔

    I've been hired for my FIRST job at Amazon in Colorado, Denver and I'll say; there is alot of good and bad things there. I've been enjoying going to Amazon to work hard just like anyone else to get paid to buy food, clothing & etc., for the last 3 months. The feet pains are there when standing for 10 hours straight as a Stow worker, but the Water Spiders they burn more with walking non-stopped bringing totes and boxes to your station and drinking alot of water to use the bathroom breaks often or talking with their friends or managers. Just remember, there are security cams every corners, even outside where the workplace is. lol Bad side is that if you are going too slow there gonna get a person with red vest to come and give you a written form or that you did something WRONG, that might be a termination "Being fired", no pay and go home sad face. If you stepped into the AR, your pretty much instant fired! Your not supposed to go in there with the robots moving giant shells that weights pounds of products people around the world orderd to send to the customers. That haven't happened to me yet, I mostly followed the rules every night work. I'm still learning how to Stow the big boxes, they are the ones slowing my rates down by s*** ton. >. I can do about 2000 -2500 at max for doing, stowing. Then called it a day of night shift, 10 hours carrying some 50 + pounds products. I loved the pay and Amazon for what they doing since 2002 history of when they started this whole thing. The A-Z app is pretty useful for knowing when your UPT - [Unpaid Time] or PTO - [Personal Time Off] is used up & for vacation an all. Just remember, if your signing to work for Amazon, work hard and at your pace as best you can. Improvements can help alot on the ways too! Anyways enough of my story telling. Need to rest my feet for the next work.

I personally worked and retired from the main auto plant in Marysville, OH which sounds like Rhonda and many of the stories you said sound so very similar. Towards the end of my career ( 2020 ) we had drug needles in the bathrooms , bomb threats, crazy people loosing it running around with an axe, regular daily drug dog searches on and on and on. Working there was like buying a boat. Best day was the first and last. Glad I'm in one piece. It was hard, I made some friends. I'm glad you shared your experience with everyone. its no wonder all the good job have gone to Asia. They’ve just now in 2024 introduced at my facility this policy where they rotate workers from job to job to minimize the risk of injury. They said if you’ve been picking for three weeks straight they may assign you to pack or count and they’re trying to get more people trained in amnesty because people keep quitting. I just recently quit amnesty after doing it almost 2 years. Anyway, now I’m finding out that they were already rotating workers at other facilities for years and they’re just starting doing this at my facility. Why weren’t they already doing this?

As long as someone wasn’t intentionally antagonistic people generally get along. The time-off, 4:10s, and the general same-ness of the work everyday are huge pluses for me. It goes fast so the weekends feel even longer than they already are. Went back as seasonal but I’m trying to get blue-badged as I’m at a point where I can stick it out for the long term. I get why people don’t like it, but it works for me :) but of course YMMV The only caveat for me is it has to be lighter work, I’m not a hulk-framed dude, but I excel in light work especially with walking.
