Can definitely relate to how this hobby snowballs from just wanting a couple dolls from childhood, to just purchasing a newer doll from the store while asking yourself, "What am I going to do with these?", then purchasing another, and another, and...😉 The art gallery at the end is awesome, btw! Love the Shining carpeting in it 😎

Thank you for sharing your story. Like you, I played with mostly Barbie as a kid but kept my dolls until I left home at 19. I gave my dolls to my eldest niece. In 1996, I was 30 years old and Christmas shopping. I went down the Barbie aisle and thought "I have a baby girl - I can get her a doll." The Sugar Plum Fairy came home with us that day. Then KB toys dangled the reproduction barbies in front of me, Enchanted Evening, Silken Flame, Solo in the Spotlight, and they too had to come to my house. I was saving them for my daughter. After maybe 15 dolls, I knew I wanted them for myself. I continued to collect and my daughter enjoyed dolls too as she grew up, so it was fun. I went on hiatus for about 10 years and thinned out some of the dolls but kept the rest. They are both in and out of box. I also was able to get different kinds of dolls as sales popped up. Many, many 60's and 70's vintage barbies showed up at the thrift stores and came home with me, also. A few years ago my husband and I bought a retirement house and it had a craft shed behind it. I decided to bring my collection there and make it a scrapbooking/doll room. Well, it is now packed full of my original dolls and so many others i've found. I also discovered Monster High and went nuts. You are good to keep your collection under control. Thanks again for sharing. I've enjoyed seeing your videos and dolls.

Hi Kada: I've been a doll collector all my life (I'm 53, ha.) and it NEVER gets old! So glad to hear about your collecting journey. We collectors have so much in common no matter what we collect. I could relate to every question you answered. Secret, I'm currently collecting older Monster High Cleo de Nile dolls! Love her shoes!

I have made 1:12 scale dollhouses and furniture and accessories for over 35 years and people mostly accepted that as a hobby. I still had several of my childhood Barbies and when a friend gave me a corner shelf I added a base cabinet and turned it into a house for those dolls. That started the collecting and dioramas. My story line takes place in the 70s but I have some modern dolls integrated in. For the most part, if I can't figure out how to include a doll in the storyline I don't get it. I have several dioramas, sleep and keep cases and the Country Home displayed all the time in my craft/doll room. People do not always understand the Barbies. Because of that first corner house, my sister started collecting. Having that shared interest has been a lot of fun.

I'm so impressed with dioramas, especially the high level of detail that 1:12 scale can get. That's so cool that you do those! 🤩

Fab video. I think a lot of folks hit that nostalgia wall in the pandemic. While I’ve collected Barbie in some form or fashion since I was a kid, it was however the lockdowns that super charged my collecting & there was a real mania to collecting gaps in the dolls & play sets that were “missing”. Especially as I moved states in the middle of COVID feeling disconnected to my new city, I definitely used Barbie collecting as an emotional anchor. Now I feel that there needs to be a significant slow down as pandemic life recedes. Love the insight into your collecting & collection. So glad I found your channel. 🫶🏻

It’s nice that we have that in common, Julius. I enjoy hearing the stories of people who had the same experience of nostalgia during the pandemic, and embraced it with a fun new or expanded thing in their life. Barbie was a huge positive that came out of it for me. 🥰

That was so much fun 👍! I liked how every question is answered with at least one doll in hand 😃 I started buying Barbie dolls again as an adult in 2019 I believe because that's when the Fashionista's line with diversity started to come out and I thought they were so cute 😍 Before that my daughter and I would rarely buy Barbies because we were into her AG doll collection 😎 I do love the birthstone beauties and wanted to collect them all but couldn't afford to do that so I only got the 1 that's my daughter's birthstone 😎 Did you hear they're going to make a PJ reproduction doll that's the next 1 that I can't wait to buy for myself 🤓

Great interview! I had Ballerina Barbie too, and the travel van (but mine was smaller i think). I had a pair of really flexible dolls that travelled from town to town in the camper van and put on gymnastic shows. It took me years to id them as Young Sweetheart dolls. They were surprisingly easy to find in good condition at a reasonable price
