Hello Ms. Kada! Also on top of not paying shipping…you can check and inspect the dolls thoroughly for flaws etc…unlike buying from eBay, it’s quite a gamble not seeing and relying only on photos and not checking the item personally…

Doll and toy shows are usually where you get the best prices AND you can see the doll in person. I go to a lot of doll shows and they're really fun! I meet so many wonderful people. I try to haggle some, but like you, I'm not great at it. Ha. I hope you continue to support he shows. It's so fun!

I went to my first doll show a few weeks ago and didn't know I was supposed to haggle. A vendor said she was flexible, so I tried it a little bit with her on a Fashion Ave. outfit. I guess I should have tried on the most expensive item I got, but he was a Brad doll (Christie's boyfriend) who was in my list of top things I wanted and in near-perfect condition. I just WANTED him and didn't even think to haggle, lol. You really lucked out on the case. Lots of good Skipper clothes! Yay! :)

I used to go to doll and toy shows once a month before E bay and other sites. I loved it. It was fun to meet other collectors. Love your vids😊

I don’t have anyone locally either that I know who collects dolls and vintage toys like me so I get what you mean. Also, I don’t haggle either because it’s so awkward! Lol the haggling bit, oh dear! 😁 The Barbie dolls are gorgeous. The case is so cool. You did a good job haggling ... come on, it is not worth 20! 😄 I went to my first doll show last year in Paris and I went again this year. It is quite small, I think a bit smaller than the one you went to. It is very enjoyable and it is possible to see amazing dolls I normally only see pictures of on Flickr (Fashion Royalty, especially the bigger size dolls I had never seen before). It is especially dedicated to fashion dolls but they are some artist bears and Reborns too. There are all kind of prices from very affordable to out of range. It is mainly Barbie dolls of all eras but there are also Tonner dolls and other fashion dolls. I only bought one doll when I went this year, a Gene doll! Yes, a Gene doll! The first time I went, I bought a Bleeding Edge Goth, a lil' Bratz in her og packaging and a Barbie outfit. The prices are better than Ebay generally the same as what you said. The great thing is to find dolls I can't easily have access to. The Bleeding Edge Goth was a bargain compared to Ebay prices. I bought her at the end of the show and the seller haggled for me!! 🤭 Unfortunately, there were no Bleeding Edge Goth dolls this year. I agree the difficult part is to not buy "more" but I am pleased I moderate my enthusiasm. It is better that way 😉😇

Fun finds! I've never been to a toy or doll show. I've never heard of any in my area. It would also be more fun with a friend who shared my interest in Barbie and I don't have any of those. KZread is where all the fun folks live! By that, I just mean other people who share my love for Barbie. I also live in a very small town. My big plan while the grandkids are napping is to binge watch your videos.

I think your swirl ponytail Barbie is an OOAK (one of a kind) doll that somebody repainted and even rerooted. And did a fantastic job! The outfit and hat may have also been made by whoever revamped her. You got a fantastic deal if I'm right! I'll be your virtual doll friend if you'd like. ☺️

Very nice video! The booth with all the vintage Barbies is so cool. Love the 10$ case, such an amazing deal. I am not sure but I have seen a little outfit in there that looks a bit like a Moondreamer outfit? Made of shiny material I am European and I can only dream to go to such toy shows in America 🤩

You really got a fantastic deal for $10. !! That Alan looks really nice too. I go to a lot of doll/toy shows and have found that recently (the last year or so) sellers are eager for the sales $$ and willing to go way lower than in previous years. Also, when you think about it - all things considered; online websites, competitive shows, local FB "Marketplace", along with many collectors at least widening their scope to include the more and more available made-to-move dolls, ....and even Temu and Ali-express,.... the competition for sales is fierce! Years ago I was able to bring a few of my unwanted or duplicate items with me to the shows with the intent of trading with the sellers - and they typically were open to... "Let's see what you got". But not anymore! They don't even want to look at it. They just say no. They're there for the sales! Can't blame them, I guess. I'm sure it costs way more nowadays for the rental space to start, and big name websites wanting a bigger cut. But, trading up, etc. was how I was able to eventually complete outfit sets, and/or sometimes acquire the more expensive pieces, etc. Now, the "smaller" collectors really don't have much option other than to just pay for the pieces they want or get in the sales game themselves! I'm sure you get what I'm saying cuz I'm sure you're like me with a side-stash of dups and/or "meh" stuff that you can't bring yourself to just - throw out! Once in a while I'll donate a zip lock bag of these such items and/or handmade doll clothes that I've accumulated and then add a Dollar Store doll or cheap Barbie to the bag in hopes of it finding its way to making some little girl happy. Anyway, enjoy the hunt! I'm glad you enjoyed your experience at a show and for sharing! Shows are the best way to network and find some great deals! 😊

Thanks for all your great insight and experience! I also heard at the Toy Show that sellers don't want to re-pack and haul stuff home, so sometimes they're willing to let it go for less (esp toward the end of the event) just so they don't have to bring it back!

Thank you for sharing your first adventure of attending a toy show! It puts my mind at ease to know what to expect! You're probably right about the early birds! I'm not really the competitive type either! I don't have a poker face, so I can't pretend I'm not dying to have something! I have learned in these situations to ask the seller what is the lowest price they will accept, or "Are you firm with this price?" Did you have to bring cash, or did most sellers accept cards for payment? Would it be OK to divulge what part of the country this show was? Great haul!😊

Smart questions to ask! This tells you how clueless I was: I showed up with zero cash. My mom had to pay for our admission, and it was Mother's Day! 🤪 But fortunately, I quickly realized that most vendors took Venmo or PayPal. Thanks goodness for smart phones!

I think you got some great finds! I have been to 1 toy show (only like 3 booths had doll 😢) and 2 doll shows! (I'm going to another doll show this weekend) I think toy/doll shows are an amazing for collectors. We get to finely be with our own kind of people!

You obviously are not a Barbie expert yet and this worked in your favor in purchasing the $10 case. I would have offered $40 to $50 because I know the value. As a seller and collector I really liked this video. You did a good job of relaying the experience. Yes reasonable haggling is expected. If you see Barbie Bazaar magazines for sale at a show BUY THEM! This publication is the best source for Barbie info.

I get myself in a lot of trouble because we have multiple flea markets near me as well as thrift stores and I find so many great dolls for one or two dollars apiece. The most I may pay is ~$5 and those are usually really great ones with their outfits. I mean, I have a 1961 Ken, a couple of Midges, a twist and turn, and some other dolls from the 60s and 70s. I have amassed so many dolls 🫣. I might need to chain myself to the house this weekend so I can't go out again!

There is a Fashion doll show in London on the 8 June. The entrance seems expensive. I will check more. I am sure there must be smaller events a bit more affordable. The bear shows entrance were cheap and so was the entrance of the fashion doll show in Paris. It is not fun if you have to buy the ticket on line and if it is a bit expensive.
