I’ve bought 2 refurbished iPads and my M1 2020 MBP from Apple over the past few years here in the UK , and all 3 devices arrived looking like new. Shrink wrapped and with a 1 year warranty. All 3 devices have been reliable. I’d definitely recommend checking out the Apple refurbished part of their store. Thanks for a great video

Congratulations! I do keep a gaming PC but switched back to Mac, well back... was gone from the late 90s until the M1 came out. I gave up my 16" M1 Pro and Studio and just got a 14" M3 Pro and love it. I found myself on the go more and for my personal video and audio work I did a lot of it on my MBP then would transfer to my Studio. Instead I just got a TB dock for the MBP and to plug my external drives into. You can get a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure and Nvme drive for a good price and it will pretty much as fast as your internal drive. Excited for your journey!

Hey! I was using the Rode Video Mic Go 2, which plugs into my camera. Some shots I just have on the top of my camera and other shots I'll put it on a little tripod as close as I can to me, but try to keep it out of the shot. Or sometimes I even clamp it to the table. The closer it is to me the better it sounds.

… I never thought to check the Cycle Count on M1 MBP when I bought it. I think that information should be included as a necessity in the specs on the sale page for all of Apple’s refurbished devices. When buying a car, we always check that milage, and that it matches the advertised amount.

@@jeffchastain2977 Oh, thank you, Jeff! That’s good to know! Even though my M1 MBP is a refurbished model, it was still horrendously expensive in Australia, so I don’t want to have to replace it anytime soon. I sold my car a few years ago for less than what I paid for this thing! I checked the battery yesterday, as it’s about 18 months since I bought it, and it states it now has a capacity charge of 88% (I use it all the time, night and day). It’s crazy, though, as when I charge it, it can go up to “100%” in the top screen menu, so I guess that means I’m getting a 100% fill of the 88% capacity! I don’t think anyone would get away with that in any other industry. Sneaky!

I find the "refurbished" prices aren't low enough to make it a value. If I spend $100 to $200 more I can have brand new from Apple -- or worse, just wait a couple months and buy new model with brand new chip for $100 to $200 more.

On a planet with billions of people, you can NEVER be "the only one". The brand new Apple products one can find in the refurbished section are brand new machines sent back by the consumers during the return window. Sometimes because they understood they needed another configuration. Slow moving machines are sold at a discount by Amazon, Best buy etc.

I bought the exact same model as a refurb, direct from Apple, a month or so back. It’s flawless. Indistinguishable from brand new. I’m a UXer and Product Manager, so this is likely to pack all the punch I’m ever likely to need. It’s my first refurb purchase and, while I looked at 3rd-party refurb resellers, some of whom had slightly better prices, the extra confidence from buying directly from Apple was valuable. Can definitely recommend buying refurbs from Apple. 👍👍

This was my first mac and theres definitely a learning curve to it but its enjoyable to see the way two different behemoths think about what computing is. I dont do any creative work, mostly coding and the like and tbh, you cant go wrong with either which is why ill never understand the hate on either side. That being said i prefer windows approach to windows and application management. MacOS seems to overcomplicate that piece even with stage manager.

I want to start off by saying that I do agree both is good, but man, I'm going back to Windows with one of the new Surface Laptops. I've always used a desktop PC, but bought my first laptop (and mac) back in 2020 when the M1 chip came out. Had to jump on that FOMO ;) And it's been a fantastic travel companion. But I can't wait to get back into Windows for all my devices. I still can't believe this laptop in the video was 3 grand. You could buy a hefty windows PC with a 4080 for that kind of money. And it would be a powerhouse. I'm also spoiled with the way PCs handle storage. I got a bunch of 2TB m.2 drives in my rig and they were like 150 bucks each. The idea of paying hundreds of dollars for minor upgrades in a laptop just blows my mind.

In the earlier M-series, there have been some great bargains with refurbished MacBooks, as many people (globally!), during the lockdowns, couldn’t see the actual MacBooks to decide on the colour, so they bought 2 and simply returned one for the refund. So they are practically brand new, but have to be sold as Refurbished. (I bought an M1 MacBook Pro with higher specs than I would have been able to afford, and it looked brand new.)

Feb 2019 my fiancé and I both bought refurb Macs w our tax money. I got a 2018 w an upgraded video card and she got a 2017. Both computers did eventually have the butterfly switch keyboard issue and we got that repaired in Feb 2024. Mine didn’t have any issues after that but after it was returned she began having power issues where things would intermittently shut down out of nowhere. This was eventually repaired bc while we were outside of AppleCare it occurred from the keyboard repair and battery replacement we received. It was an issue w the iGPU. A few months later we ended up having new issues come about but it was after the extended period was up and while it still worked well enough, it was becoming more random and we both ended up upgrading. Our original buy had been before the M1 announcement by over a year so I decided to get the exact same M3 Pro MBP baseline model. Here in the US it is 1700 instead of 2000 and she decided she didn’t want a laptop this time and opted for just a baseline M2 Mac Mini for 500. Both of us are able to play World of Warcraft better than before and the M series is so much better than the Intel chips from our old laptops it’s silly. I did keep mine tho bc it was dual booted w Windows and that is how I play Fortnite w my son. Also while some Linux distros have ARM builds (I have Fedora 40 KDE and OpenSUSE w KDE installed via UTM), distrohopping is easier w the old MBP and external 2TB SSD I have. The refurbs are an excellent way to get a new Mac and considering they are fully covered, unlike most places giving short warranties for anything refurbished, speaks a lot to their belief in their systems.

I hope you have a lot of fast external storage, because 512GB is really not a lot for 4K editing. That's something that you sacrifice from a Desktop PC to any Mac except the Mac Pro, is the inability to have additional fast internal storage. Neural Engine not neutral engine! 500$ out of 3500$ is a small discount for a standard model, which is quite often on sale for larger discounts (different scenario if a built to order config is taken into account which are never on discount). if i spend 3000$ on a device i will have a bandwidth 2500-3500$ considering an upgrade or not. The comparison to PC-upgrade we are talking about 1000$ (Mainboard, CPU, GPU, RAM) vs. 3000$ including an additional training phase necessary, from the economical point not a good idea, if one always wanted to transition to another world. o.k. For a company having the rest of their equipment e.g. in the windows world, additional staff, additional hardware and software training, a lot of additional costs to the plain hardwarecosts.

@@SamCambetis I am not sure how Aus manages VAT, but all of the US prices are before tax (at least that is my understanding). UK pricing is essentially the same as US pricing (pre-tax) if you removed the 20% VAT from the purchase price

It’s in Australia and prices include GST or what you call VAT. American prices need to add the tax for the total cost. Additionally, the Australian dollar is worth more compared to the American dollar with regards to the exchange rate.

Sadly they didn’t have any and I did trade in my MBA so I was stuck with Apple.
