I have two bags: one big one for most everything and a small bag we call the Action bag which just has essentials for our run & gun setup. We film super fast and efficient so speed is necessary.

The Somethin' Or Other Tour I’m the same. I do a lot of Motorsport photography and I’m literally carrying a Canon 6D Mark ii and a Canon 7D or 5D as a second shooter. I’m running around a race track, having to be in 5 different places at once. I have one bag with lenses in it, you’d be surprised how many I need. And another bag with the other equipment I need. Luckily there’s usually two photographers, me included. Unfortunately for us we’re usually carrying about 15kgs of equipment each.

Great video again fella. I'm the same with my riding and camera bag too. It needs to be small enough to not get in the way but big enough to carry my gear. Over the years I must say I am tending to shrink my gear to travel as light as possible too. Cheers

Been eyeballing the 350 version of this bag and a similar one from Vanguard. Thanks for the teardown, it's really helpful. Totally agree about waist straps. They have one function and are a huge nuisance in every other situation.

Cool, honestly, the pro-tactic is the best bag I've ever had, and just love it. Like you say, a never ending search.

I've had this bag for years and I agree that it's pretty great and hits a lot of points. You can lug an incredible amount of gear in it, often it's all I need for a full scale shoot. My main complaint is that it's not very comfortable for extended use. If you're actaully hiking into the backcountry with your camera gear, which the niche the bag is clearly designed for, it's going to hurt after a while. I've tried adjusting the straps in all sorts of ways, but I just can't ever get it to be comfortable for extended use. Granted, lightening the load helps a lot, but if I can get the load light enough, I'll go with a different bag, usually peak design's backpack or messenger.

You travelled with a face-mask in Feb. 2019? You were ahead of your time. How did you know???

In Asia especially, Even far before the pandemic, people wear face masks if they are ill to avoid giving it to others. Or in some countries because of pollution they wear them but basically its just to be polite

I actually like the waist straps. I position the straps lower so that I carry the weight of the bag with my legs rather than my shoulders.

Oh wow Peter, I am so relieved! 😂 I thought I’m the only one with a bag problem since I am always half-embarrassed about having to explain all my bags (aka systems): 3 x F-Stop, Mystery Ranch, Hazard-4, Aether Apparel, Vanquest, Maxpedition AGR and of course Pelican hard-cases! I love my bags and my systems! Of all of these, I prefer F-Stop because they are rugged, lightweight and modular - Tilopa, Sukha etc. They have an ICU insert system which is highly versatile, though I also intend to try out a Peak Design camera cube in there, another great company with useful utilities. I am really surprised that you are not already using F-Stop as they are renowned for their use in rain, snow and heavy outdoor use unlike the standard sissie bags. The only new competitor worth mentioning might be Shimoda. That’s about 5 years of research in a nutshell, learnt the hard way! I hope this helps someone to buy a great bag, I am not getting rid of any of my bags (or knives) but not everyone can aim to have a large collection, and there is something to be said about pursuing minimalism!

Pete you're awesome. I love the way you explain things as well your topics. Could you maybe do a video how you would start creating a low-budget setup if you wouldn't have any gear yet? Greetings and love from German!

Waistband straps are a BIG help for long wearing. If you are hiking or walking long distances getting a backpack properly setup on your shoulders and hips is very important for comfortable wear and not straining your back.

Hey Pete, Welcome to the Whistler club! I have the first version 350aw and it has been amazing.It has been to Vietnam,Cambodia, Canada, and all around Australia. 3 years and still looking new. My version the zipper is on the inside of the waistbelt which I think is Better. I take my insert out and makes for a lighter bag too. just put an icu in it.or two.

Hey Peter. I use the lowpro proTactic 350 and a Tasmanian tiger pouch (it comes in different sizes) attached to it using the universal molle system. It' really useful and gives you the space for stuff like gloves and even water bottles. Greetings from Germany Valentin

I'm not 100% sure if you can fit everything in the base config of the bag, however I would look at the Wandrd Prvke. It comes in a 31L version and has a cool roll top for some of that extra storage that you are looking for which could be used for some stuff like the drone and HD to save space in main camera area. Also has cool little pockets all over the place for keys, sunglasses, passport, laptop, tablet...

What I'd really like as a developing photographer/Videographer is a backpack that has a bit of camera organization stuff in it, but then also room for my laptop, some books, and all the normal stuff I carry everyday to work. Some sort of hybrid camera/everyday backpack. Then I can always have at least my basic gear with me.

whenever i plan to go hiking and i am not on a project shoot, i don't carry this much gear with me. Because all this gear slows you down and makes you tired. If you really want to enjoy and also take great photos, all you need is a good smartphone or a compact point and shoot like the Sony RX100. I think that's enough.

I own it and I'm loving it !! But I usually only bring 1 camera and two lenses and maybe a drone. Still enough space for snacks and extra clothes and the outside pockets are perfect for a water bottle and a tripod. Loving the accessibility from the side. Perfect for run and gun shooting. Never have to put it down in the dirt. Hope that was somewhat helpful.

When I was choosing camera bags to purchase I loved that bag. Front compartment and the extra room is awesome. But not having side access to the camera is a deal breaker for me. I got the ProTactic instead.

I have the version 1 and love it. Most important for me, now I can bring COFFEE to my sunrise shoots

I've had this camera bag for going on 2+ years. It's carried everything I need for low-key weddings, shoots, it straps my skateboard, it's been in the winters of the north to the rainforest to the desert, and been used as a full solo backpack trip. For a few days I hiked into the woods, strapped my bear can and tent to it, hiked 10 miles to the woods of yosemite.... and if I handed you my bag you'd say it only has a month of typical use. This bag WON'T die. My stuff is safe as can be, water tight, and there's a whistle in case you get stuck in an avalanche [or the woods I guess].

I have a lengthy review of the Peak Design Travel bag on my channel and will be doing another video soon about it's been working as a camera bag for me!

I was looking at the other LowPro bag you have because it was so big, but this one looks WAY better! I don't have a lot of gear to carry, but I do have 3 kids that need drinks, snacks and other stuff when we go on hikes. This one would work so much better! Glad I didn't get the other one first!

And your Think Tank bag. I wondered where that went. I've recently bought a Tenba and have been using that over my Think Tank and Lowepro stuff almost exclusively.. Same kind of thinking in the design but more comfy harness. This bag looks nice though! Good stuff man!

Peak design camera bags. Expensive, but worth it. Lifetime warranty, and everything is so well thought out. They are a startup out of SF. I'm a fan of the Peak Design everyday backpack. Has its limitations but pretty innovative and flexable. Not great for going out on actual shoots but as far as everyday carry goes its wonderful.

You can try the Peak Design Travel Line Backpack. That's a very versatile bag with lots of features. Moreover, it is a modular bag. I think you will love that.

Peter, thank you so much for your great content! As a brand new KZreadr I find your content really inspirational and absolutely helpful! As I am just starting out my filming kit is very basic. So I you were to prioritize what items to upgrade first, how would your list of priorities look like? Camera (currently using my iPhone 8s), editing software (currently using iMovie), coputer hardware (currently using a MacBook 2016), light (currently using a DIY setup with work-lamps and natural lights), Audio (currently using a Røde NT-USB Studio Microphone). The videos I make are simple educational videos of me sitting in front of the camera talking about nutrition. I would like to include more B-roll going forwards.
