@@stanko00001 I think you're thinking about A Walk to Remember, which would definitely never be released on Criterion. I love the movie, but it just would never fit into the Criterion Collection. A Night to Remember is a black and white classic film about the Titanic, some shots almost look scene for scene replicated in the 1997 Titanic film.

A few years ago I only had 2 Criterions. Today, my collection stands at 181 releases, all Blu-rays, with box sets included and each one representing one of release. My most recent addition is WIM WENDERS: THE ROAD TRILOGY. I am one of those who wishes they would get on the 4K train like several of the other boutique labels have.

I'm more of a film noir guy. Some of my favorite film noir movies in my Criterion Collection are: "The Killing" (#575), "The Killers" (#176), "Night and the City" (#274), "Asphalt Jungle" (#847), "Detour" (#966), "Kiss Me Deadly" (#568), "Leave Her to Heaven" (#1020) *If you liked "Fatal Attraction" then you'll love this original version, "Sweet Smell of Success" (#555), "Brute Force" (383), "Ace in the Hole" (#396), "Gilda" (#795), and "In A Lonely Place" (# 810). I'm hoping Criterion puts out more film noir in the future, but this list is a good start to that genre of films.

Fun fact: Chungking Express, now OOP, was the very first Blu-ray from Criterion. It was right after the format war ended and just as the final HD-DVDs were trickling out of other studios. IIRC Chungking Express was released in December of 2008. Having never owned an actual Blu from Criterion (I bought Videodrome on DVD by mistake and got the DVDs of The Killing/Killer’s Kiss, Dr. Strangelove, and Something Wild from my library that doesn’t have Blu-rays, I wonder if Criterion had some rusty earlier releases like the other studios had.

Love this! I have just three Criterions in my collection. • 'Silence of the Lambs' - which I think is a great transfer. Especially when compared to the old Blu-ray. • 'The Game', - and I agree with you, it needs more love 'cause not enough people talk, or know about it. The transfer is beautiful. I also have the hardback book UK version from Arrow. The first Blu-ray was garbage. • 'The Breakfast Club' -, again, I think the transfer was brilliant, and the old VHS rip of deleted scenes from the film was a great touch!

Here’s what I have from the Criterion Collection (all of them are on Blu-ray). I have a total of 60 Criterions. - 12 Angry Men - All About Eve - The Before Trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight) - Being John Malkovich - The Black Stallion - Blood Simple - Blue Velvet - Bottle Rocket - Boyhood - Brazil - The Breakfast Club - Broadcast News - Bull Durham - City Lights - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (although I consider it to be a Criterion, it’s essentially a joint release between Criterion and Paramount with it having a regular Blu-ray case and a slipcover.) - Dazed and Confused - Do the Right Thing - Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Election - Eraserhead - Fantastic Mr. Fox - Fast Times at Ridgemont High - Fear and Loathing Las Vegas - The Fisher King - Following - The Game - The Gold Rush - The Graduate - The Grand Budapest Hotel - The Great Dictator - The Great Escape -A Hard Day’s Night (the first Criterion I bought) - In the Heat of the Night - The Innocents - Inside Llewyn Davis - The Irishman - The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - The Manchurian Candidate (1962) - Marriage Story - Modern Times - Moonrise Kingdom - Moonstruck - Mulholland Dr. - Night of the Living Dead - On the Waterfront - Pan’s Labyrinth - Parasite - Paths of Glory - Portrait of a Lady on Fire - The Princess Bride - Punch-Drunk Love - Roma - Rosemary’s Baby - The Royal Tenenbaums - Rushmore - Seven Samurai - The Seventh Seal - The Silence of the Lambs - Some Like It Hot - Tootsie

Great video. A lot of good criterion movies. I have a couple Harold & Maude one of the best movies ive seen great cat Stevens score. Gimme shelter the rolling stones about the tragedy that happened at the altamont speedway in December 1969 great movie. Just got fast times at ridgemont high from criterion and its the first time its seen in its original uncut version and a tv cut with 5 minutes extra footage. Theatrical cut is 90 minutes. Tv cut is 95 minutes. I still want to get the bruce lee set, beyond the valley of the dolls, and many more.

I notice you cut away often when you started talking more in depth about certain movies. Is there a longer/less edited video? I'd love to hear your take on some of these.

I found the Arrow Blu Ray of Thief to be better than the Criterion, the grain on the picture I found to be more natural, also the extras easily are better. I’ve also got Blow Out, Videodrome, Dressed To Kill, The Manchurian Candidate, Diaboliques on Arrow Blu Ray. I’ve also got M on Masters of Cinema, I’ve upgraded Don’t Look Now to the Studiocanal 4K, I also have The Red Circle (Le Cercle Rouge) which I too have upgraded to 4K from Studiocanal. I was also lucky enough to purchase the Criterion edition of The Third Man... however the titles I strongly advice you seek out are... Cul De Sac, Tess (Polanski) Notorious, The Man Who Knew Too Much (Hitchcock) Barry Lyndon, The Killing (Kubrick) Le Samourai, Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge (Melville) Mind you The Red Circle is already available on 4K Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Rashomon, Ikru (Kurosawa) Shallow Grave, Heaven’s Gate, Mishima, Tootsie, Dead Man, Personal Shopper, The Hit, Safety Last, Some Like It Hot, The American Friend to name a few. As for boxset... strongly recommend The Lone Wolf and Cub boxset. If you love Lady Vengeance... then Lone Wolf ans Cub is very much worth seeking out.

Great video I have not seen a lot of those movies. I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen Seven Sanaurai I've always wanted to just never have. I'm a huge Godzilla fan so I do have The Showa collection and all the Charlie Chaplin releases. I love all of Chaplins work brilliant filmmaker and all around moviemaking artist. Same with Buster Keaton. I gave a fee other Criterion ones I have are Jackie Chan's Super Cop 1 & 2,The Bruce Lee collection,Night of the Living Dead,The Irishman and War of the Worlds .

@@tdg223 Well if health concerns are your issue, I can personally tell you that I manage to find time to work out everyday as well as watch movies, and I'm sure most film fans don't sit on the couch all day everyday either. Honestly, sitting down for one or even two films in the evening is not going to cause you health issues. Working at a desk for eight hours straight might though. If anything, the spiritual benefits and escapism of film will probably help your mental health!

The transfer is typically overviewed by directors or cinematographers who worked on the movies. They also contain nice booklets/covers and things like that. Some get better special features, some are only released on criterion. Personally, unless you’re big on film and want to see how things got made and have best quality, you’re better with normal blu rays due to the price. I only get criterion’s on personal favorites of mine
