Ye because the piston rings over heat and over expand creating a better seal and thous higher compression but then they obliterate from the excess heat and friction lol. Steve could try putting a tea spoon of engine oil down into the suspect cylinder to see if it helps compression, if it does it means it's your rings, but if not it is the valves (could be from valve float). Either way there is enough second hand engine parts floating around on Ebay you could just hone the damaged cylinder wall depending of severity and then replace the piston rings. If it is a valve just replace it and then lap the valve.

Tried everything even swapping parts between cars. Now he is running bigger radiator and oil cooler and is getting decent temps. Strange how 2 identical cars can get so different temps. It's like u say, it's a bit of luck with these engines. Gonna put shims in mine to be sure when i change out the timing belt. And please make some videos of you investigating the engine. Keen to see the engine strip down....my thoughts are leaned out and melted piston or blown head gasket. I have just rebuilt a 2019 1.4 turbo Suzuki Vitara engine (write off as driver hit a animal & cooked it) i thought the compression was still low on 2,3,4...mine one is over 200psi being turbo...or maybe it's just the Suzuki engine design?

Hey man, grab a Cobb access port and have Adam Tuned do your tuning. He is really good and he knows the S280 turbo and the the engine's limits. We've seen this in the states a lot. I bet you deformed the cylinder wall right at the thin spot between cylinders. Can't wait for the new setup.

Hope it’s just an intake valve so you can get aware with a cylinder head refurb. Definitely do a strip down video.

Do you think you was just unlucky or was it down to it being stage 3 and on a track? I’m hoping to get a x47r soon but a blown engine is a bit worrying.

Bloody hell Steve, that’s rotten luck. I’d love to watch a video or 3 of you pulling the engine and replacing it.

I'd be happy enough to watch to see exactly what went wrong with cylinder 1 hopefully whats happened might be reboar and new rings and full clean down with oil being in intake and cylinder
