    My earliest memories are of my Grandfather coming home from work and cleaning his tools everyday. I would sit and watch him and we would talk, then when his tools were all clean and sharp and ready for the next day’s work, we would wash-up and go in the house for dinner. So growing up with someone who took great pride in his tools and his work, I always notice someone’s tools. If they’re dirty, rusty, dull, etc, I don’t respect him. So for those who say Jeff’s tools are too clean, I say maybe they ought to take a look at their own tools and the image they are projecting.

    I am strictly Commercial/Industrial and a Foreman but I also do a lot of hands on work with certain projects, mostly critical typpe work and outdated equipment. On most jobs though I bring one of my personal gangboxes for all my tools and then load up according to what I am doing. I have everything from Loppers to cut copper up to 800 kcmil to full set of Terminators (small control screwdrivers. I keep an underground tracer, circuit chaser, Low Volt strippers, crow bars (Small and large) 4' level, 2' level, Plumb laser and a cross level laser, and a ton more of stuff. I also have several different toolbelt rigs for anything from control work to working on big gear like SES' and a variety of aprons also for a variety of jobs. Also the Klein version of this DeWalt open bag, a bag with a zipper for CEWA (Critical Electrical Work Authorization) jobs and a 12v cordless drill and impact, two cordless 18v drills and two Impacts. But for a general install I would add add a few things... 1. Tap/Drill set... great for taping an existing hole, sizing up a hole or making one without needing a pilot hole. 2. Eagle Beaks... The small cable cutters for cutting up to #2 copper and they're good for cutting MC cable. 3. Gripper screwdriver... for putting in screws in tight spaces where your fingers can't go. 4. Hole saws.... typical hole saw kit, various Uni-bits and a small knock-out set. 5. Driver tips... 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2" 6. Socket tips... 1/2", 3/8" and 1/4" drives so you can use sockets on your impact drill. 7. Sockets... same sizes as the driver tips but also with 9/16", 5/8" and 3/4" sockets... deep and shallow 8. Headlight... for hands free light. 9. Punch... one of those adjustable impact punches for marking holes and giving you a point for drilling without travel. 10. Tips and extensions... SQ2 and SQ3, Philips, Torx and a variety of extensions for them. 11. Wrenches... same sizes as sockets with ratcheting box ends 12. Vise grips and Vise clamps... Small C clamp vise grips come in handy a lot. 13. Waterpump pliers... 14. Notepad/book... cuz I am old and forget shit 3 seconds later. I also have a pair of Gripple cutters for cutting aircraft cable. Aircraft cable will ruin linesman pliers plus Gripple cutters will leave a cleaner end if you have to put it through a keeper/connector. Allen set for my ratchet and drill, T-handles and a small and large combo set. Hickey heads for 1/2", 3/4", 1". A Maxis lay-out template and way too much more to name... (He's says now) But I have been a Sparky for 51 years and have accumulated four gang boxes of tools. When I finally retire at the end of 2020 I am giving everything to the apprentice with the most ambition to be a good Electrician and has the right attitude (being a Craftsman).. got two in the running at the moment. What I don't have in my bags is material and parts... if I need them I use one of my material carts... depending on the environment. I have one small cart that I keep pristine, even cover the wheels because I only use it in clean room situations. Then I have two large ones and other small one.

    Thanks for the video. This is not a hater comment. I'm going to guess that you haven't worked through any type of apprenticeship.. You had an electrical background, and turned that into an electrician's career. There is nothing wrong with that, I did mostly the same. I spent several years programming PLCs and doing control work, but the past 18 years doing construction and repair. my tool pouch is quite the opposite as I am very much a minimalist. It may have 6 to 8 tools in it only. However, I have a custom utility truck and enclosed trailer that has all the tools I could need parked just outside at the job-site. In it there is everything from mechanics tools, manual and hydraulic pipe benders, hydraulic knockouts, hot boxes, Power tools, and all sorts of meters and test equipment. Don't mind the negative comments. Ask one of the average electricians to write a simple paragraph explaining what electricity is, and they would mostly be lost. But, they can read a print and bend pipe and pull cable according to it. Keep making your living repairing the crap work left behind by everyone else.

    RSC, a lot of times especially in kitchens where code requires 2 separate circuits for kitchen counters, it's helpful to have them plugged into both sides of the kitchen to see which one has power when you test the panel switches. Also, they can often be on a separate circuit from the dishwashers, or other kitchen lower wall outlets. So I like to have an abundance of these.

    Really I see a lot of stuff I'd ditch off that bag. Not get rid of the tool all together, just not everyday lug. A lot of the drivers can be replaced by an 11in1. You'll want a multi bit stubby at some point. I'd loose the Milwaukee strippers, I had them for a year and they aren't as useful as they need to be. The radio shack strippers, if you were working with more stranded wire I'd keep them on, I get the impression you're not though. Doing residential work, you really over spent on the meter. Stick with Fluke, but you'll never be doing anything above 600 volt. In your world if it handles 240 and ohms out, your set. Take that tick tester and after you use it replace the batts every time. Seriously. Get an ideal wiggy or a Knopp wiggy. That will NEVER let you down. Never use anything to mechanically twist on wire nuts, you'll figure that one out the day you do service work. Always twist your wires with your Linesman pliers, and hand tighten your wire nut.

  • @jeffostroff

    @jeffostroff

    4 жыл бұрын

    Great minds think alike! I always twist my wires with the lineman pliers. I saw instructions on something the other day that said pre-twisting was optional, and thinking what moron manufacturer would write something so stupid. Every time I ever came across untwisted wires, from previous installers or handymen before me, one of the the wires had broke free out of the wiring nut. Who do you prefer over the Milwaukees? I also have the Klein strippers in there.

    @@jeffostroff I have larger hands and Southwire makes a pair that are similar in style to the Klein ergonomic set. They won't strip down to 14, I have a set of strippers that are for 12-22 that I use mainly for control work. A lot of the wire I strip is 8awg and better, so I don't use practical hand strippers like you are use to. I still use hand strippers, just... You'd have to shadow me while I work. It's tough to explain the work I do. I'm in no way doing some sort of new method electrical. Industrial work is very different from the field you see everyday.

    Your problem is that you're using the wrong metric to determine whether someone is good at what they do. Just because I don't always think of the same word that you do is completely meaningless . I still go to properties and have to fix all sorts of errors from arrogant wannabes like you who might know certain stupid trade secret words but have no talent. Go look at all of my or electrical repair videos and see the damage which arrogant guys like you cause, how professionally guys like me come in and fix up all your damage, and just try to argue with those other videos.

    jeffostroff lol I don’t think you are a very good an electrician either no hate but you use wagon lever lugs or whatever and you use those plastic wire pushers which no professional uses AND most importantly you depend on a non contact voltage tester
