Delivering a healthy baby, regardless of how it comes out, is the only goal that matters. I applaud everyone who shares their birth story because, while you open yourself up to criticism and judgement from those who think they know best, ultimately you help other people who may be going through something similar. Susan, your little baby girl is a sweetheart. My daughter will be 18 soon and I just adore her - it’s so fun having a mini me to share things with. Enjoy her while she’s tiny. ❤️❤️

I think it’s up to the doctor to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks of an elective C section. It’s definitely not up to you.

Adrine S If a doctor says we can try for a VBAC but in my judgement it would be best to schedule a C Section than that’s what you can responsibly do. When someone like you interjects their own opinion then you just make people feel badly for something that they didn’t really have control of. I had three uncomplicated, unmedicated births and I don’t feel like I made smarter choices that led to that. I just was fortunate. Insisting on the value of vaginal births is like insisting on the value of clean water. It doesn’t really need to be said. I think anyone who goes through a C section and a vaginal birth will, without risk, opt for a vaginal birth. I mean no offence to you but you come across as preaching and while there is something to your point of view in a very generalized sense you cannot make judgement in individual situations unless you are part of the medical team!

Adrine S I don’t think that you really understand the statistics that determine risk. C sections have saved sooooo many lives and it’s not for you to say that her C Section was unnecessary. It’s between her and her doctor. Unless you are an obgyn I’m pretty sure that you are not an expert on what’s best for Susan or any other woman. You are an expert on what’s best for yourself. That’s it.

Adrine S I don't think anybody actually believes that a c section is the best mode of delivery for baby or mother and hardly any mums elect to have a c section for their first baby if it's not medically necessary. However, when you've had a situation like Susan (emergency c section for her first) it can be extremely stressful to think about trying for a vagjnal birth a second time when it went so wrong the first time. A mother's mental health must also be considered when deciding on 'risks' associated with modes of delivery. I had a 24 hr induced labour with my twins which ended in an emergency c section. I would so love to have a natural birth when we have our 3rd baby but I am really torn because of the fear of a repeat of last time, hence I am considering an elective c section. Just be aware of how your comments can really make a new mum feel guilty about choosing a c section when she's just trying to choose a mode of delivery that makes her feel most relaxed and positive xx

Hope you guys enjoy this video! It was funny re-living my c-section and thinking about how I felt. Can I just say, I’m glad I’m not pregnant anymore and have a beautiful, healthy baby! It felt like I was pregnant for so long. 🤣

Congratulations, my story is the same, I would never ever recommend a C-section but when it comes to us that had to have 2 C-sections it is what it is, we have our babys and they are beautiful and healthy, I hope you're recovery is going good and that you rest as much as you can ♥️ P.s. I’m an RN for newborns/L&D/OR for c-sections. Yes, they do remove & replace some of your internal organs to do the uterine repair. Sometimes they have to remove (and put back) some of your intestines and sometimes your bladder. They usually have to take out the uterus to stitch it up.

Pregnancy is such a personal thing-thanks for sharing this! It’s unfortunate that so many people judge when they hear the words elective c-section.

Every time I mention I'm getting a C-section I swear everyone's response is why? I'm like because it's my body and it's what I want... I'm a planner and I just feel more secure and less stressed knowing when she's gonna be here (well obviously if she doesn't decide to come out early lol) but yeah I don't like worrying too much.

I honestly hate when people think it’s ok to make you uncomfortable about the decisions you choose to make for yourself as if they have a right. I’m currently pregnant with my first & I have always known I wanted to do a c section. Thankfully my dr was understanding (she said she chose a c-section herself) and hasn’t tried to talk me out of it or weird about it!

I’m having my second in early September this year, and I’m having a planned c section again this time too for some good reasons. My firstborn came via emergency c section too 5 years ago bc of preeclampsia @29 weeks. Grateful to hear your detailed experience with your planned c section!! I’m about to have my 4th c-section this Monday coming up and I am so nervous I didn’t have a choice regarding it but it is what is since my doctor said it’s safer because of my past births. This is actually the first time I think I’ll make my schedule c-section so this was very informative thank you 🙏🏼 I’m always going into labor way before the schedule and end up having the whole emergency c-section but with this one it’s going to be a different story since I have one more day and I go in at 5:30am to hospital 😊 on Monday. Ariel Lee my son is breech! And I’m 37 weeks and his head is in the 97% percentile 😂 so we are scheduling c section for 39 weeks 😩🤞🏻❤️

This is so accurate to my experience of my elective cesarean. I so wish I would've known that it is NORMAL for babies not to cry as soon as they come out, that was the most stressful part for me (she is/was completely healthy). I remember recovery being the worst, she's almost 12 now. But I'm due in March and will be doing another elective cesarean. It was all worth it and I don't have any regrets from how things went the first round. And it's actually very calming to hear that the experience 12 years later is what I can still expect.

Thank you for sharing! My first was a very scary 28 hour labor that ended in an emergency csection. Since then I've lost two babies in the past year and a half. I'm now pregnant again and this has been a healthy pregnancy so far. I have so much anxiety about whether or not to have a second csection or to try another natural birth. I still have plenty time to decide, but I'm so scared that if I don't choose a csection that I will be risking mine and my babies life like what happened the first time.

This is good to know! I am very small, with a large baby coming and they offered me the choice.. I’ve been watching videos to get some clarity on what I want to do (my first baby). I’m under 5 feet and very petite and she will be roughly 10 pounds at 40 weeks. She’s 8 now at 36 weeks.. I also have gestational diabetes so this happens I guess, even if it’s well managed 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve always been athletic and fit

I'm going on the third c section in a few days and with my 2 previous c section I had great experiences, I would even say I recovered much faster with second one.

Congratulations on baby! I had two C-sections both planned. Just watch the pain and scar tissue i ended up with endometriosis and a mass of scar tissue that was very painful. Just had surgery in August to remove it. It was a quick surgery and back to normal now. It's apparently common to after C-section especially seconds.

I had an emergency c-section but I really really appreciate your explanation of a c-section (planned). There are some things about a c-section I can imagine that just aren't as... Lovely as a vaginal birth.

How did it go for you I’m going to have a c section too. I’m nervous about the catheter like does it hurt going in or out and also do they check your vagina with there fingers constantly like they do a vaginal birth lol

@Ash Ne the spinal tap didnt hurt like I was expecting it to be. They did a light injection of anesthetic (just a prick) before they did the tap to the spine. The tap to the spine just feel like pressure after the anesthetic. I started feeling my feet being tingly and then my leg and thigh being warm then numb... lol. Then they do the catheter so you wont feel that anymore. Getting it out just feels weird but not painful. They ask u to breathe in and as soon as u breathe out! Catheter is out. Best feeling ever after that lol! But when they were doing my csection, my leg felt so restless like I just wanna move it but i cant.. thats the only thing i hate about it. Like i just wanna kick! But i cant... i asked the nurse to reposition my legs but it didnt help... but you will be fine! About vagibal check??? They only checked me once when I got in, then they were like... yup youre ready! Were are doing your csection today. Oh and it happened earlier than expected.

I hard it was easier the next time around but Iv also see some woman have a vbac but I'm glad ur able to share that in for with us cuas I had a emergency c section the first time due to my daughters heart beat but every one was tellin me it gets easier the second c section

I am currently 34 weeks and I was told to prepare myself for a possible c-section due to my baby being in a breeched position the last few appointments. Going from thinking I was going to have a natural delivery to a possible caesarean was and is quite scary to me. I had csection in 2008 going to have another next week and I’m hoping that it goes just as smooth. I’ll take a csection over the screams I heard in the hospital any day. Your baby comes out a beautiful baby regardless of how they arrive.

Same thing happened to me, how was recovery the second time with the elective c section. I don’t know what to do I’m 32 weeks right now and I really don’t want to be induced and then end up having a emergency c section again so was thinking to just opt for a elective one

Hi Susan..I just had a planned c section a month ago and my experience was exactly like the way you explained step by step. The only difference I would say is that I enjoyed the experience this time around so much more than the 1st emergency c section!!! Also I agree with you that the hardest has been to juggle a newborn with a needy toddler..can I request a video of how you manage to handle both!! Congratulations! I had an emergency c-section August 28th 2019 due to I wouldn't dilate more than 8cm. Found out my baby had only 8 inches for an umbilical cord so he was stuck. He is healthy and happy and I love my OB for taking care of me. 👶💙👩‍⚕️❤

I had two emergency c-sections, elective was the dream for baby number 2 but my son didn’t quite get the memo! Baby Ayla is so incredibly beautiful ❤️

I had a c section because my daughter was breeched and water broke at 35 weeks +3 days. I cried because it was not something I wanted to do but accepted it because I want what's best for my daughter and me. The worst part to me was the shot up my spine but the surgery itself surprisingly wasn't bad as I thought it would be. I delivered a beautiful healthy baby girl.

I have to admit, I'm near giving birth all naturally for the 5th time...and the idea of a c-section appeals to me because the pain of natural birth is horrific. It's short for me, but incredibly intense. However, I know I'll be blessed to not need one and be able to recover quickly (within an hour I'm walking and feeling great). Thanks for sharing your story, I feel for everyone who gets a c-section, it can be scary and isn't as easy as it sounds.

Hi Susan, Congratulations for baby Ayla, she is adorable. I am a mother of 4 month old....please let us know what birth control method u followed after having your 1st baby. Most of my friends have opted for Copper T anyways which has lot of side effects and is painful.

So happy for you and your family! ❤️ I used to be “Vaginal is the only and best way to go!” when I was in college. But now that I’m older and I know more about both sides I don’t think I would be mad one way or the other. Listen to your doctor and don’t judge other mamas is what I say.

As an RN for newborn and L&D (including OR for c-sections), a c-section is NOT predictable. There is a much higher risk of hemhorrhage, emergency hysterectomy, sepsis, infant having respiratory distress, nausea and pain afterwards, cutting the bladder, scarring that attaches to your internal organs, and even death. I’m not saying don’t have a C-section, but just don’t be misled into thinking it is less risky.

Those are all of my concerns which is why I’m leaning heavily towards a vbac. TMI but I have a hernia resulting from a tear in my c-section incision (site?). It gives me problems daily and I’m a year and a half out from my c-section. Idk as much as I want to have another kid soon part of me feels like I should wait but I think I’m as healed as I will be (which kind of sucks).

Well you made me more confident into having my second c section. I had to have an emergency c section with my son because his heart rate kept dropping and the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. They did give me the opportunity to try to see if anything changes so I can have a vaginal birth but I was running out of time because his heart rate would not stop dropping. My son came out perfectly fine I didn’t feel any pain during the c section but I felt a lot of pressure when they was stitching me up. I got pregnant back to back and I have a schedule c section this time around because I feel like my body isn’t fully healed to do a vaginal birth either way there’s risk. That is always my biggest anxiety... I have so much water retention at the end of my pregnancy and they said that makes it harder for them to find the right spot, so I always get pre-poked with that massive needle so many times before the REAL poke. Seems to take forever. It also just freaks me out that I always jolt unintentionally and they tell you not to move or you can be paralyzed. JUST super freaky. I hope you c-section went well :)

@@megansampson5445 I did a lot of praying and thank God my c-section went great and smooth! I had an amazing anesthesiologist and team in the OR that listened to all my concerns and held me through the whole process. I’m praying yours goes just as smoothly. :)

About to have my 3rd section. My last one was beautiful, and very healing after a scary emergency one the first time! This time is different as I’ve had a mastectomy so not breastfeeding this time.

Also shooting pain on one side is last stich of the incision on the fascia (sheath that holds all abdominal organs). This stich heals the last and is generally sewed super tightly to avoid hernia.( I.e when organs poke out)

So happy you made this type of video! I too had an emergency csection due to anesthesia and baby’s heartbeat dropping. Also he was sunny side up which made it very difficult to bring him all the way down! What was the reason you had your first csection? Was it due to baby’s position since you mentioned you felt little girl in the same area as your son?

You do control what happens during natural birth. That's the whole thing - you become your body and your body does its job. Yes, there can be complications. Often they arise from the fears of not knowing what's coming or thinking you can't control things - of course among plenty of other reasons. It's great that we have the technology available to do emergency or planned c-sections. There is no need for judgement, but the truth also has to be discussed about what is more beneficial from a health perspective for the baby, and the mother. Thank you!! My son will be 2 the week of my scheduled c-section with my next. I've gotten a lot of criticism about not trying for a vbac. The first time I had dreams of an unmedicated birth- did all the classes, planned perfectly etc and then I ended up induced at 42 weeks and an emergency C-section. It was traumatizing and I couldn't hold the baby until day 2 because I was so drugged up. This time a planned surgery feels a lot better to me, and that's all that matters but I admit I do have hurt feelings when people act like I'm "not trying" bc I've elected this time around
