But after 400+ laps getting back for a shot at P8, and with 20 laps remaining they "bumped" us off - race over shattered. Car fully repaired we decided to take the flag , however when "J Broadbent" appeared in F3 I decided to go offline and get out your way ... well that didn't work for either of us. Disagree, that's not target fixation. He's not hitting the car because he's looking at it, he's hitting it because he overcooked the corner, the other guy behaved weirdly, and their lines simply came together. On the point of being predictable, this is something that even normal drivers have to contend with on public roads. Ever have that person try to be nice and wave you through a turn when it's clearly their right of way? Yeah. That stuff causes accidents when for example the traffic behind the "nice person" thinks they are stopped for no reason and dive into the shoulder to pass. Next thing you know you've been t-boned.

Regarding the brake tapping, another potential cause is that the car ahead is using a Logitech G920/923/29 because those have a very common issue with the potentiometer in the pedal getting a bit dusty/dirty and randomly applying itself. It’s very annoying (it happens to me too) so I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the issue.

Allan McNish would talk about this all the time on the WEC broadcasts. Drivers in multiclass racing are making thousands of minute judgements and decisions every second, especially when it comes to overtaking. Occasionally, there are moments like that where the telepathy breaks down and a faster car will run into a slower car. It's amazing it doesn't happen more often, tbh.
@is_fpr5f1
Жыл бұрын
Allan himself was involved in a huge crash at Le Mans in 2011 attempting to overtake a slow car
the brake tapping from the GR86 is a very common issue with the old G27 style pedals from logitech. The potentiometer gets dirty and worn out over time and starts registering an inaccurate pedal position. Typically the brake input in-game will look very jittery and spikey. Mine was actually so bad, that without a fairly significant deadzone set up, my brakes were always on, with spikes being registered all the time.
I think the 8:04 crash was actually on the BMW, cause just before the collision the BMW starts turning sharply to the right directly into the Lambo. Think they may have gotten the track layout confused and tried to turn into the coned off turn, and because that wasn't the correct way crashes into the Lambo.
@MegaNardman
Жыл бұрын
I simply don't understand how that's 100% on the Lambo (unless the bimmer's turn-in was caused by contact). Like you said, bimmerguy turned in like he was taking the coned-off road. You wanna talk about unpredictable racing lines, this would be it (but it was probably an intentional block).

I absolutely hate incidents like Jimmy's, you approach the slower class presuming he will take a normal line and knowing its not a good place to pass you slow down. Agreed. The LMP2 did wrong, Jimmy could of avoided it by guessing what the LMP2 was doing correctly, But a racing line isn't really a guessing instrument, it's kind of universal, everyone in an LMP2 should take the same line at similar speeds but this was the wrong line at a very incorrect speed, resulting in a wild closing distance from Jimmy

Yeah the one thing I’ve learned from endurance racing is the slower car always should take the normal line and be predictable and let the faster car do the overtaking. It started when I spun 3 times on track with other cars and hit absolutely nothing and had no video of it and went looking for in-car videos from other people at that race. It always baffles me when so often the person who VERY clearly screws up in spectacular fashion is instantly angry at the person who did absolutely nothing wrong. I'm not talking about the 50/50 or 40/70 or even the 30/70 calls, but the 100% you sir are the idiot incidents where the idiot is absolutely certain they were done wrong and they insist in telling the actual wronged party in invective filled blaming shouting and screaming. hearing Jimmy talk about his own incident at the Daytona 24 reminded me of some advice that FailRace gave in a live stream once, specifically in response to someone else asking for general driving advice (because they were about to go for their actual driving license test). it was a two part answer, first "don't ask the internet for advice" (lol), but second and possibly more importantly, "don't be courteous, be predictable".. but honestly, I would say the same concept applies in racing, just with everything happening at much higher speeds and with much less space between vehicles. which makes that idea exponentially more important. "hold your line" isn't just a suggestion, it's an unwritten rule of driving fast.
Its' not the job of the car being passed to get out of the way, DRIVE YOUR LINE. If you watch much endurance multiclass racing you'll hear them talk about that a lot.
@Jimmy_Broadbent

@Minx5892
Жыл бұрын
It is the job of the faster guys to pass safely, yes. But it is much easier when one class goes one way and the other class the other. You can predict and plan out better. It's genuinely frustrating when some GTs do not follow this. T1 at Daytona is an absolute pain in the lmdh due to the brakes. One little bit of extra brake and your car locks up and you cannot turn at all. In my Daytona split some GTs stayed high, which forced me low meaning I had a much tighter entry, which forces me to brake harder leading to the danger of locking up and ploughing into the tyre wall, maybe with a few cars being collected. The LMDh doesn't have the acceleration the LMP1s had, you need to use that aero to pass. You can't use it if your line is compromised. TLDR drive the line the rest of the slower cars do.
4:20 "It's now up to him to re-safe joinley" lmao
Watching Jimmys crash live my reaction was, "What the f**k is this guy doing?"The last thing I would have expected was for the guy to be thinking, "Oh, Jimmy's behind me, I'll just pull over here and stop to let him pass." Really thought the race was over at that point so quite relieved Jimmy got the car to the line. But yea, when you're expecting someone to be predictable your choices will be based on that and when you suddenly discover they arent the amount of time to correct and avoid is minimal.
To quote Rocket Powered Mohawk: “THROW, HIM, IN, JAIL!! RIGHT NOW!”
As someone new to the channel and racing with a wheel in general, this sort of thing is fantastically helpful in learning how it's supposed to be done. It's like AITA court but for racing. 10/10
Jimmer punted that last dude, but the P2 is also AT LEAST 50% responsible. Number 1 rule being lapped in multi-class is be predictable. He didn't do that in the slightest. Slower class should NEVER 'get out of the way'. Mistake by the P2, but Jimmer did punt him.
4:20 - love the scramble of words you had going there, Jimmy.
The brake tapping is a known issue for the Logitech g29, the brake pots get a bit dirty and when you yeet on the gas sometimes it gives a dual imput with Brake+gas, and sometimes a neutral brake position makes it flicker up to like 5% sometimes
LOL 0:37 “Who’s this pillock”
If you’d turned inside the P2, you’d have been wiped out on the pit wall on 900th T1. Hilarious in playback that you leave the track to go hunt & kill like its #51 😹
100% brain fart, was so funny watching it at the time cause it looks like you just crash into him on purpose to the point I thought you had just done the final lap
From Jimmy’s onboard it definitely looks intentional 😂🙈
On the brakes bit.. I often do this, on purpose. Wait... waaait, hold them pitchforks... On some circuits, where there is a long time between braking zones (spa turn 3, bathurst after the chase, last 3 corners of the ring... you get the idea), brakes tend to be a bit cold at the braking point. So a small tap, or ghosting the brakes for a couple of tenths, usually brings them back to operating temps, making the most on the initial bite of the brake. Also, it allows a deeper braking point ( because you are a bit slower and because your brakes are at a better temperature). To be clear, i think Jimmy is right here. He might be ghosting the brakes inadvertently due to a lack of dead zone. But be aware this is a thing, too.
Absolutely love these videos, please never stop doing them
Jimmy, not sure if you've seen but Car Mighty invited you to join him in one of his car hunt vids. He mentioned it in Muye's latest questionable racing video, I think you'd have a great time with them on beamng
You know someone is British when they call them "Frostys"
I watched the Daytona clip live and I think you summed it up great! It was just an unfortunate situation. The lmp2 car was going really slow, you missed your brake point and well you tried to avoid them and couldn't. I'd say the crash is mostly on you but the other car had a big role to play. Driving so slowly even off the racing line causes the following car to close the distance so fast, that it is hard to determine where they are going and what they are doing. You trip over them so easily because of the speed difference alone. Very nice gesture from them but better to race your race..
3:00 "OOH, a RaceRoom Clip! We don't get many of these!" *cries in DirectX 9*
9:00 It seems to me that the BMW braked early for the corner and the Lambo didn't anticipate it.
4:19 i will always remember to resafe joinly, thanks jimmer
5:32 I think it is just overly sensitive pedal setup. Mine used to do exactly this and I didn't realise until a chap behind me in a race pointed it out. It didn't affect speed but can defo be offputting to drivers following you close for the brake lights to flicker on and off as you rest your foot on the pedal
Damn. Hit in the child hood feels with that frosties f1 game.

4:20 “resafe joinly” you what Jim? 😂
You should've pressed the secret button on the back of the wheel to activate the QHFD (Quantum Higgs Field Displacement) module and phased through the other drivers car
I had a crash at Daytona doing something similar to the P2 in Jimmy's clip. I was trying to yield a corner to a faster driver, drove in my mirrors & missed the brake point so went straight ahead into the tyres at the bus stop. It was my first enduro in 9 months and I was rusty. My takeaway was exactly what Jimmy said, everything about my decision process going into that corner was wrong. I should have focused on my race, drove my line and let the overtake happen after the corner.

I had a car right in front of me at Brands Hatch going to surtees, they moved left before the corner, making me think they were yielding, then suddenly moved back right, turned in waaay too early and ran the corner wide, first it looked like they were going to stay wide, so i quickly got on the inside, locking up a bit and getting into some understeer. And while i was struggling on finding the grip again, they braked in the middle of the corner, moved back to middle of the track, straightened up the car and just coasted in the middle of the road at an acceleration zone. That was the last thing i expected them to do and i drove straight into them, sending them hard into the wall
The last bit's spot on, don't drive for others, drive your line .. ;)
9:30 He was actually nice to you, I would clickbait everyone with a title like "Jimmy Broadbent crashes against me on purpose, as seen by his steering wheel, on the last lap of Daytona 24h".
The BMW lambo crash is 100% on the BMW, there was no corner when he turned in, there was no contact until the BMW decided to turn a decade before the corner.
"Resafe joinly" thank you for the laugh.
Loved racing against you at Daytona! Greetings from BRT!
lmfao I love those meme sound effects thrown in there
4:21 "resafe joinly"! Lol. Point well made regardless. Thanks for the laugh, with, not at you Jimmy. I'm not even sure why I'm commenting. Just found it funny. No disrespect intended brother!!!!! Good luck with the Praga car this year!!
Honestly when I saw Jimmy’s incident at Daytona I also thought that the P2 car had gone wide but was still going to turn in to T1, so I can definitely see why Jimmer went to the right to try & miss him. It did look worse from onboard tho 🙀Either way I enjoyed watching the race
7:50 In my opinion it might also be if the guy is using some pedals like for example logitech G27 pedals they might be dirty af and the potentiometers in the pedals might start reading oddly, hence the flickering, its the first thing i thought about cause i had the same issue on my pedals 💀
Watching the end of the Daytona race with you there was a lot of chatter coming through about fuel savings and how you should be approaching the last lap, that combined with tiredness and perhaps some target fixation on the out of position car caused a little punterino. Still it made for a bit of excitement at the end of a long race! 😄
If "RESAFE JOINLY" were a sticker, I'd put it right above "Pls No Punterino" on the back window of my daily.
I tap my brakes just before the braking zone if there's someone less experienced tailing me like "pls no punterino"
Resafe joinly. 😂 luv it jimmer
I love an ol scroll of the sub of tears.
Good to know that in a multi-class race, the slower cars can hold their racing line when a faster car is approaching. Only drove once in a multi-class race and got out of the way each time a faster car approached me..
love a jimmer upload on my bday :)
in that raceroom clip can we at least mention the fact that the car didnt go wide of his own accord and the white Cupra pushed him wide from the apex of the last corner all the way to the sand? xD

I said the same thing, that wasn't his fault, he was there, other car shoved him off, he had no where to go and the other car should have easily spotted this and moved to the right.
