SAME. Not to mention, I find it's easier to draw their body, then the outline of the clothing, then erasing the hidden parts before adding detail. It usually saves me making really awkward anatomy. Then you get called a pervert... Dx

I can't STAND it when people comment on my work as I'm drawing. For example I would be using guidelines and I would get questions like "why are there lines all over her face?" "Is that supposed to be yOu??" "Who's that?" And the common "where's the rest of their body? Where's the nose, where's the other eye???" The worst is when you're drawing the base before adding hair and clothing and people ask "why is she bald??" Or "omg are you drawing a naked person!? You're such a pervert!!" I just started learning how to draw anime, and every time I see eyebrows over the hair it bothers me SO much.. haha I totally get that it helps show expressiveness, and emotions more and better, but still.. it just look so unnatural, yet.. sometimes I like it? idk. THE SECOND ONE! YES! I was drawing a MERMAID, a MERMAID and this girl turned around in her seat in class and asked what I was drawing, I told her/showed her and she asked to look through my sketchbook. I said yes as I have no problem with people looking through it. My sketchbook has mermaids, a pride drawing, and random doodles. She asked "Are you depressed?" When there's literally nothing in there that would indicate me being depressed! (But I mean she's right 😂) So thank you for coming to my Ted talk 😂 You get a cookie 🍪

For me it's whenever I draw people expect me to be a really talented artist who can make really realistic drawings, when in reality I just draw anime boys.

I’m similar. I tell people I like to draw and they say “ANIME?! MAKE ME AN ANIME CHARACTER” and I don’t know what to do since I do really simple drawings like kind of a “lavendertown” style mixed with a “Jaidenanimations” thingy. Yo this happened with my best friend in Grade 6, last year (currently summer break for me). We were supposed to be drawing something, I don’t exactly remember the situation. He just came up to me and said “*certain other student who likes to draw* is better than you”. What? Did he think I’d get too conceited? I literally get shy when people praise my art skills. I wanted to say “maybe if you weren’t saying that just to annoy me, you’d realize he isn’t”. Because that other student literally drew Joker (not accurately), kept smudging the pencil, then without erasing/outlining and erasing just coloured over it and damn, that hurt my soul. I can also draw anime characters (girls for now, and I’m improving), backgrounds, different fonts (block and bubble letters, calligraphy, etc) and I can even do realism! So it was CLEARLY just to annoy me but all I said was “Ok, have your opinion”. Because I didn’t want to sound like a jerk!

Just start answering: They are to help me change my pitch up. when they question the "change my pitch up" you follow with a forceful backhand as you conclude yelling: Smack my bitch up. You can't get mad at a person who doesn't know though... they're just innocently asking, and getting angry at them can make them not want to start drawing.. and maybe that's why they are even talking to you, because they have interest in what you do. You also can't assume that everyone knows what you know too. If someone asks the question twice though.. THEN, and only THEN is it fine to get annoyed. lol Always try and keep an open mind with people when it comes to art questions. I should know, I'm an artist too, in multiple fields, so TRUST ME, I KNOW the frustration of getting asked the same question over and over and over, but I've learned that you always need to try see both sides of things too, and be kind, and courteous always. :) Even if you want to hit the very well intentioned and easily impressionable person in the face.. with a chair... that's on fire. lol Who knows, just being kind to those people could help them grow into an amazing artist one day, and perhaps even want to do it professionally. So, always try and keep that in mind. ^_^ Hope my advice helped you feel better about those kinds of people a bit! :)

It's even worse when you DON'T draw anime but like photo realism or semi-realism with anime like features. but funny story I've had so many people come up to me and ask for something like THE NEXT DAY or they just snatch the drawing and it's like "NYO. YOU DON'T DO DAT."

This is how I watch my friends draw without making them uncomfortable: be at a diagonal angle behind them, if you can’t do that use as most of your peripheral vision as possible, and don’t talk to them unless they are talking to you ( you might break them out of the zone).

One time I was sitting at my desk with my sketchbook *in my hand* and some girl snatched it and was like “I WANNA LOOK” and started flipping through my sketchbook. I yanked it back away from her and yelled at her for grabbing my stuff without asking and she called me an asshole... she CALLED ME AN ASSHOLE FOR WANTING MY BELONGS BACK!!! WTF?!

i don't mind when my friend who sits with me in school watches me while i draw. Cause, she is like a little, quiet kitten, she just watches me, doesn't ask any questions, doesn't move table or accidently pushes me and she also adores my art. I also don't mind when my classmates watch me cause most of them have already told me that i am so good at art. I kinda got used to it 😅

I used to have this toy of a Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. One day, in school, I was using him as a model to draw. I had him on a hoverboard, firing a blaster. To me, it was just cool. I didn't have him murdering anyone, or bejng violent. Then the teacher sees it, calls me to the front, and asks me why I would draw something like that. I started crying because I was afraid of getting in trouble for a harmless drawing. But to her I must have been having a mental breakdown. I saw a counselor for the rest of that year.

Uh I hate it when people ask me why the eyes are so big and say it's stupid

The most annoying question they can possibly ask you is: “Who’s this? Is this you?” When the character and yourself look nothing alike. I hate it whenever I draw something people will just assume I’m drawing myself or someone else.

I was so stressed about it all the time that when someone told me my Avatar (Snapchat) looked different than me, I assumed it was a lot of stuff. So I made my face super round, made myself the highest level of fat, and changed my height. Turned out that they meant the nose. It's always annoying thinking people will judge you.

The Random Narwhale the MOST annoying thing is during art class a random person would walk up to you and ask you to ‘help’ her and, expecting you to draw 3/4 of the WHOLE DRAWING. I can teach you how to draw, I can assist you while you draw but shouldn’t YOU be the one who’s actually drawing??!! I HAVE MY OWN ASSIGNMENT I NEED TO WORK ON🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I hate when I tell people "I can draw" and they immediately say "oh can you draw me??" Edit: omg thx so much for almost 300 likes ❤️❤️

i relate. and one of my other drawing pet peeves is when you're using a pen to ink your work and you SNEEZE! worst thing ever and when someone tells me it looks ok or good....i kinda take that offensively

so in school I was the art kid, and kids in free time would be like, “oh, can you teach me how to draw?” And of course id accept and once id start explaining it, they’d get bored and leave to go hang out with there friends, then the next day the same thing happens and the cycle continues, “tEaCH mE, TeaCH Me, TEAcH ME!!”

I'm studying to be an electrician and there's an art school right next to ours. I draw at school after my work is done and in my free time. Usually D&D stuff, like items, cities, maps, characters, huge eagles or evil dragons. And one of the instructors there always comes to see what I'm working on and always asks the same question: Why I didn't go to the art school instead? Dude, do you think I'd last with my bellow average skills and non-creative mind like that? Besides, it's a waste of time anyway.

There's this one time where I just finished sketching an anime boy and my friend just came with a marker and said 'why didn't you colour it' then she just started colouring it with that marker. And I was like ' it's not ready yet :') '

Drawing in high school was where I was most comfortable, but some douchebag teacher of mine, confiscated my drawing book (which at the time had either horror manga-style monsters, heavy metal musicians and their instruments) and sent me to counseling, under the assumption that I was Satanic.

Omg once i was drawing zombies (not too creepy ones, but they had a bit of bl00d...) and my mom saw them and she was like "NAH-UH" So i felt horrible. Then she felt horrible.. so she wrote a letter to me apologizing and explaining why she didnt like me drawing "dark" stuff. ;-; Now it's the only thing i think of when i see those pictures. ;-;

Dirk The Daring *Is just a Stickman (there’s a joke that your face simplified as you talk more fanc-ily?)* It is agreeable that I am a compartment to store stuff/a humanoid who partakes in the act of moving ones hands across a thin bark whilst holding a wooden stick full of graphite.

My artist pet peave is when your drawing and people behind you are like "She's drawing a circle. Oh! Now it's a cross. It's a house! Oh wait no..Never mind" and they act like you're deaf or something. No offense to deaf people. But the people right behind you act like you can't even hear them at all!!!

I'm sorry your friend ruined your notebook. They don't sound much like a friend.

1) "I could never draw like that"- I literally learned to draw this well because I took a 1 semester class where we weren't taught anything, we just practiced 5 hours a week 2) I can't doodle anymore, if it isn't proportional, detailed, and shaded, it hurts to have done it 3) I used to draw when inspired, I drew a lot. It was mostly 2d and cartoony, but I could do an entire panorama scene with people who you got to know about by what they were wearing and doing. I have not been inspired to draw anything but portraits or figures since I took that one class- granted I replaced that artistic outlet with writing 4) I did so many of my best drawings on chalkboards which were erased, and i was never able to get any of the photos off of an old phone 5) Watching people intentionally draw badly (and usually say they are soooo bad) but you can see in how they are doing it that if they were willing to try to do well they would actually pick it up easily.

Someone: Can I look through your sketchbook? Me: *just sits there awkwardly because I hate to say no*

one time at school i had my sketchbook out and was seriously drawing something when someone asked to see it and i got all flustered like "i uh yeah but JUST SO U KNOW i didnt exactly draw EVERYTHING in there haha yeah i have some friends draw in it too hehah" because i took it to lunch all the time and my friends would draw dicks and lenny faces another friend drew some good shit in there and whoever was lookin through it would stop at her drawings asking "oh wow this is cool did u draw it?" and I'd have to say that amazingly beautiful drawing [sob] was *not* drawn by me

Bad Potato I have a tip, I saw this online but when you are drawing the eyes or something draw them step by step *together*. Like first the outline for each eye, then the inside for each eye, then the coloring and highlights for each eye. Step by step. Hope this helped! (〃ω〃)

I wish there was a magical COPY AND PASTE in real life like on deviant art. I can only draw traditional art. ................. (Gets glue ans scissors) But if u need to, it helps to use wax paper or tracing paper.

High school was the worst with this crud man. Y'see I'm a reserved person and mostly draw because I like doing it and it passes the time, so whenever and whatever I drew I kept to myself. Now there would be the occasional compliment from passing people and I would show my appreciation ...but then there are the people that'd be like "Hey, that looks nice! OOH OHH DRAW MEEEE". I would either accept or (more likely) politely decline, which would not sit well with them and they would take back their kind words and says things like "You weren't good at drawing anyway", and from that point on, begin to loom over me and give their "critique" on my art. Ehh. Gee, thanks.

Mike Searcy yes, but not ALL people are perfect at grammar(or they just don’t care, which is the case most of the time) they’re not in school and they shouldn’t be critiqued because they don’t have proper grammar. Also, people say “Drawer” all the time, and it would be Bad *English* not grammar. If it was bad grammar, it would be something like: “Me and Alex went to the store.”

you see the problem for me is that when I draw in say math class the teacher will see me writing on my math paper while i have my sketch book in my desk and then come up behind me and yell at me to give her the book. oh and if it's paper no matter how hard or long ive worked on it she takes it and throws it away

1. Can you show me how to draw? 2. Can you draw me? 3. (when drawing a boy) Ouh is that your dream boy?

I would pick option 3 and say: “Ok”

1. Unsolicited advice from complete strangers, especially when it's a drawing I'm doing just to relax. 2. "OMG, you draw. Can't you draw this and this?" "Ehm, yeah, sure, I can try after I - " "Alright, so I want you to draw me in this totally cool scenario." "But this drawing is..." "You can finish that later. ME!" 3. Related to above. People expecting work for free out of the blue and being sniffy when you try to politely decline, insulting you and what you draw. 4. "Did you draw that?" "Yes." "Where's the thing you copied from?" "I didn't copy from anything." "Riiight."

Similarly, asking if you traced it. It's like, they do realize people can be good at drawing without tracing, right? Otherwise, y'know... where did all the good drawings you would supposedly trace come from?

I think the implicit assumption that one such as you couldn't possibly draw something without tracing art from "real" artists. It's bullshit, of course, but I think that might be the explanation for that.

Inlelendri I do number 4. Because it is true. BRUH I LITERALLY SEE YOU USING THE TRACING BOARD THING. (The board that lights up so you can trace the art. I don't know the name of it because I DONT TRACE-)

A couple of years ago I was really into realism and drew a lot of naked people bc I was studying anatomy. Sometimes I would doodle for practice and people were really mean to me about it. They called me weird and a perv because I was really into learning about the human body and drawing it. I guess my peeve is being bullied about drawing what you want.

An Ex Friend claimed I was drawing "sinful things" just cause I was drawing anatomy. It didn't hurt me that much cause he misunderstood.

I mean, you gotta be able to draw a hooman naked first to be able to put clothes on it anyway. You don't just draw the clothing first, that's backwards. But yeah fuck those guys who hate on you just because you're studying anatomy.

'Tis true. Art is art, and the human body is possibly the oldest and most original work of art there is. The fact that we as people are ashamed of it is a shame in itself.

People: Where is the color? Me: seriously....I just wanna draw...leave me alone...

My drawing peeves: 1: When the pencil breaks after I sharpen it 2: when the rubber smudges my drawing 3: when I can't find the pencil or other thing I need 4: when I'm outlining it with pen and I make a mistake 5: when i draw one eye really good then the next not as good (I don't draw in public)

*"Can I look through your sketchbook?"* This is literally one of the most annoying things a person can ask (or at least I think that) ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO DRAW SOMETHING LIKE oK HOW ABOUT NO You don't want to look like a jerk and say no but I personally have a lot of drawings in my sketchbook that I don't want anyone else seeing. And then when they look at them they give you this weird look and you have to "explain" why you drew it or whatever and it's really nerve-racking and embarrassing. AND MOST OF THE TIME ITS PEOPLE I DONT EVEN KNOw Like I'll be sitting in class or at lunch drawing and some random kid I've never talked to before will ask to look through my sketchbook. I have a hard time telling people no as it is, but if I do say no, they automatically assume I draw "inappropriate" stuff and scream it to everyone in the nearest vicinity. "HEY LOOK, THIS PERSON DRAWS DICKS!!" idk this is just one of my pet peeves I'm probably being irrational but meh Also sorry for the rant lmao. Your art is amazing! I really like this video; I definitely agree these things are annoying.

_Same. But being the "cute artist" in my house means that everyone (EVERYONE) wants to see my work and go though my book! I don't mind, I'm actually flattered. But the constant asking has basically forced me to start using printer paper for personal art or just tearing pages out of my sketchbook (which I hate having to do). And I'm not gonna get an exclusive sketchbook for when I'm feeling personal. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO!_ _This is basically the equivalent of handing someone your phone to show them a funny picture and then they start _*_freaking swiping and you get that mini heart attack of "What exactly do I keep on my phone??_*

Definitely five, I’ll be fine with my drawing that day then realize my stuff just sucks ;-;. Aaaaaand I don’t show certain friends anything I draw sense they constantly compare them to a friend who is way better then me-obviously they’ve been drawing for years I just needed advice on how to better *myself*. Soooo anyone got tips on how to make hands/fingers, and how to make legs look proportionate to the body?

I have one! You should make the thighs bigger and then make them smaller and have circles for the knees and the calf is a bit thicker so you make that go out and then go back in for pretty realistic legs! For the feet if it's a front-facing person make the feet go out a bit but still be close to the legs. Or you could just look up: "human drawing base" But since it's been five months you could have already learned by now

I like painting mixture of colours and shadings..... everytime like I am just starting and it's only half way and everyone stares at the painting as if it's going to stay that way....art takes time!!!......you can't just EXPECT it to look good from the beginning!!!!!!

When I was little I loved when people watching me draw. Now I hate it haha

When someone sees me drawing and says: Can you draw me Can you draw my pet Can you draw anime Why isn’t it realistic What happened to the eyes Let me show you how to draw that and it ends up looking like crap When they say the art teacher must love you ps I’ve never gotten a good grade in that subject Oh that must be your best when in reality it is your crapiest drawing Edit: Not to mention them snatching your drawing and showing it to EVERYONE when your half done and extremely insecure about it Also people getting asking "How on Earth can you draw something that realistic" when I'm sitting here mad that I can't draw a simple stick figure without trying to make it realistic (I can only draw realistic because I apparently don't have enough brain capacity to dumb down drawings)

I used to have so much trouble with that but I started working on my 3/4 view and since the eyes aren't supposed to be even it looked normal! And now I can do it when my character is facing straight. I know every artist says this but it's true. Practice makes "perfect".

I can relate heavily with the last one. I’m a bit of a writer, and when ever I write anything in one sitting, I thinks it’s alright. Come back in an hour, and see it’s absolute shite.

I can kinda relate. My OC backstories and villains and stuff always have some sort of motive, theres drama, theres a PLAN, but the stories i write for school are like "oH nO, Rosie lost her magical shell in the ocean and the ~sEeEAa mOnsTeR~ has STOLEN IT because.... reasons?"
