This was my first time competing in the Kona Ironman World Championships, and unfortunately I was not able to finish the race.

Sounds like you made the right call. The main fact is you are able to do it next year. If you pushed through the pain you never know. Plus can’t do that to your family. All the best in getting back to 100% and qualifying next year. I’ve had to hold back a lot since my accident not long ago. Finally able to start running with a bit of speed. Still feels slow but cannot push it otherwise be out for longer. Congratulations on the new baby!!

You made a heroic decision in my opinion. Probably harder for you to decide to stop than to carry on and shows deep wisdom. I have a great feeling that you will come back stronger from this experience. Successful people aren’t so much defined by how they behave when things go well, but by how they handle setbacks. Your are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your journey 😄🤞

Two years ago I injured my right calf muscle a few months before the ironman in cebu. I rested it a week and did a lot of calf raises in the gym progressively going heavier until I felt like I could dunk like Spud Webb. I also did 300 heavy kettlebell swings every other day and 70 reps of lying side leg raises in bed on each side almost every night before going to sleep. My right calf and hips never bothered me again after that. Just sharing my experience. Hope to qualify for kona someday U r an inspiration. Go get em next year!

Ed, You've been at sport long enough to know that every race isn't going to go perfectly. I am always surprised when any race goes well considering all the things that could go wrong in triathlon. Give your body the rest it needs and then let us know what your plan of attack is for next year 😬 Best of luck my friend, we're all cheering for you!

You made the right choice. I‘m a triathlete myself and i‘ve been doing it for 5 years now and the best advice i can give you is that you should do more workouts and trainings outside. And what‘s also very important is, that once or twice a week you should train a little less exhausting and slowet because at a certain point you don’t get better if you always do fast runs and rides. Your body needs a cool down. Love the sport, keep on doing what you love 🤙🏼🏊♂️🚴🏼♂️🏃🏼♂️

Lol how can you drop out?? You’re at the IRONMAN WC. Once in a lifetime opportunity for most people. I’d walk/crawl the remaining distance if my leg was broken, just to finish what I came to do. Have you returned to Kona since? Doubt it. Sorry to be a downer, but you blew a once in a lifetime opportunity. Hopefully you can qualify again some time in the future, and i doubt you’ll get a DNF again...assuming your mindset changes.
