Thanks. Yeah, my dad is a rare exception. Back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s not too many people were worried about preserving original cars like this.

This car and your ownership are beyond words. Total respect.

I own a 1970 GTO since age 17 in 1985. I always regarded the 1965 GTO as the best GTO ever made. In a League of their own. Automotive Royalty. Thank you for sharing a video that will always be etched in my mind.

Beautiful car. It's like seeing a brand new GTO!

I had the almost exact GTO; 3 Deuce Tri-power; Close ratio 4-speed; 3.90 Posi traction, same color but with the darker blue interior; P/S P/B - no A/C. But was the 1966 Model. Mother bought it in 08/1966 from her cousin; less than 4,000 miles on the clock. He was a Corvette guy. Still has about 5 or 6 earlies from the 60's down in Biloxi. $3,000 CASH. Lucky me .....Senior in Rutherford H/S in PANAMA CITY, FLORIDA. Dad in Vietnam killing the enemy; my Mom drove the family Pontiac Bonneville. I'm lucky to still be alive. Kept about 2 years. Eventually hit the local drag strip. Best bona fide time was a 13.98 @ 104 MPH. TRUE STORY. If you weren't there, and not alive in those days - YOU JUST MISSED THE BOAT YA'LL.

As a Pontiac fan - I'm just glad to see others that still have a love for them. '65 is probably my favorite year for the GTO.

The 64 was a lot lighter, and so a little quicker, but the 65 was the best styling of all. I love both years. My dad was a Buick dealer in those years, but was almost a Pontiac/Cadillac dealer, instead. Anyway, it's kinda too bad, because his initials were GTO.

@@1940limited A friend of mine, who had special ordered a mustang GT fastback in 69, It had some special high performance add ons from the factory, and said it was the fastest car he'd ever been in. He let his wife drive it on the first day he got it, and she totalled it! It makes me sick to think about it, but I can't imagine how he must have felt. True story.

@@1940limited BTW, my dad, who was a Buick dealer, had narcolepsy. Not too many knew what that was in years past, so medication for it was not really available. Anyway, In the mid 60's he fell asleep twice while driving home on the hwy, (hwy 66, incidentally)from his business, which was about 100 miles from our home at the time. Once, it happened in a brand new Riviera, and once in an Electra 225, both cars were pretty much totalled, but my dad walked away, fortunately. My mom never even knew, and she's 96 now, and she still doesnt know. To the end of his days, my dad pretty much always insisted that we all drive big, heavy cars, because of the safety they provide.

@@dougoverhoff7568 I know a lady right now who drives a 90 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham because she feels safer in a big car. Interesting your dad was able to keep his accidents away from mom. Do you remember what year the two Buicks were?

SWEET! I turned 16 in '72. I was from a very large farm family, even owned land and cattle myself by then, but didn't have much say over my money. I'd learned if I had an in-town job that my father couldn't say much about those earnings. At 17 I had gone to work for a friends dads grocery store, flexible hours for planting and harvest seasons. I also had 3 cars by then, 2 street/strip cars-that shouldn't have been legal for the street-and a '67 LTD. Every Sunday morning a school mates mom shopped and seemed to be at my register so I'd bag and carry her items to the car. She had a '65 that was EXACTLY equipped identically to your fathers, but white. I think she came to the one I worked because she knew I'd praise and try to buy that car every time I walked up to it. I've never really been a Pontiac nor even a GM fan, but I liked that car. Anyone can appreciate what your Dad has done with this treasure.

I remember back in 1965 my cousin showed up at my house with a new 65 GTO 4 speed tri-power. I had no idea about muscle cars at the time. I asked him why he bought a Pontiac? He said get in and I'll show you. He showed me alright. I'm still smiling.

@@RipRider916 In 99% of cases I'd completely agree,but since this motor has never been opened up, all the gaskets and everything in the block,tranny,and rear-end being over 50 years old, I wouldn't open her up either.

Wow! What an amazing accomplishment on the part of your Dad to keep this vehicle in the magnificent condition it's in! Kudos to him! Yeah, my heart skips a beat when I see a Pontiac from 1960 through about 1980. John Delorean really worked magic on that Division, and was just a brilliant car guy. Too bad GM didn't know they had solid gold in their hands, and then just let him fall through the fingers. Just about that time, GM started to nosedive.

Just stunning, and especially with that equipment and color. The best looking GTO was the '65-what a beauty!

My God what a stunner. When I was a kid the lady up the hill had a gold '65 with a black vynal top. We could hear her coming and when she turned the corner to turn up the hill me and the boys (all under the age of 12) would line up in front of our house and chant G-T-O! - G-T-O! - G-T-O! What a car...

That is in my top 3 cars to own period. In that color especially!

At the rate he drives it. Another 100 years is possible. I love it.

Survivors are the hot ticket today. This car is worth much more unrestored and unmolested than it is totally gone through. No collector would dare alter this car.

I was 13 in 1960, it was an amazing time to be a teen, cars were a cool part of it but there was so much more...

Those cars were works of art. The look and sound were outstanding.

I can tell your dad is an exceptional driver just by how he handles the steering wheel. When cornering I saw he did not use the "washing the dishes technique", instead using both hands to turn the wheel in increments not going hand over hand. Then I noticed that his hands were positioned at the 9 and 3 positions, instead of using one hand at 12 o'clock a lot of drivers do. Great shifting technique and very smooth. Bravo Zulu to your dad with that masterpiece of a car.

As a long time GTO lover, some would say officianato, I'm just about salivating! What a really, nice, straight car! That car lot window sticker is intriguing. Go man, and what ever you do, don't sell that GTO.

I was a high school senior in 1965. The sports reporter for the local newspaper was fresh out of college and bought a new GTO. I still want one.

A friend of mine had one of these back in the 60’s. We had a lot of fun in it on Woodward Ave…. racing, chasing the girls, and cruising the drive-inn’s. My favorite goat was the 64…was never a big fan of stacked headlights. At the time we never imagined that the this type of car would be so revered and so valuable as they are now…they were just cool cars. I am so grateful to have been a part of this era and will cherish the memories. A beautiful representation of that era. Thanks to the owner for the preservation of this amazing car!

Stunning car and a great story being the original owner. First car I ever owned was a 67 GTO in the same color. Bought in 1979 for $900!

Beautiful GTO. My folks had a 65 Grand Prix with tri power. I can't believe how close the passenger side came to scrapping the garage door side jam. Yikes, tight fit.

My good friend Lou, then age 19, bought a brand new 1965 GTO & paid $2950.for it, with a stock 389 engine & automatic transmssion! Unfortunately, he 'blew' the camshaft in a year & a half, but it was still under the warranty,so they had to fix it for free! After that, he had trouble making the payments & it was repossessed, I think! I had a 1964 Pontiac Tempest,(a cheap version) & kept it 16 years! Still, the 1965 was probably one of the most beautiful cars made in the 1960's!

I had 2 65s. First one with 4 speed, 4 barrel, white interior. 2nd one was a tri-power, 4 speed. Both had posi. Fun cars.

Stunning car. When he backed it out of his garage it looked like he had a red 409 Impala beside it......

Just saw a thing yesterday about a guy from Sparta Ohio winning a drag race event in Pennsylvania in a car that his dad bought new in 1967. That's some good stuff!!!!!!

I owned a "66" the exact same color. I still have the one and only picture that was ever taken of it. That was in 1971. I'm 71 years old now and I wish that I still had it. But starting a new family, rent, and feeding a wife and baby, I believe that I had my priorities straight but I still miss it.

Absolutely gorgeous! Nothing can compete with the America cars of that era! My Dad had a '64 Chevelle Malibu Super Sport, even though I nagged him to get a GTO. Nevertheless, the Chevelle was a wonderful car as well! Thanks for posting this! Bless your Dad for keeping it in such beautiful unrestored condition!

This gentleman knew EXACTLY what he was buying back in the day! The car is STUNNING, simply STUNNING!

I'm 70 and I saw these cars on the road, when they first came out.

The owner must feel like he is back in 1965 when he takes it out for a spin.

This car and the Chevy Super Sport were the REAL muscle cars... Some were real close to these great ones but never attained the super car status. The Cobra was another great car. I remember because I was there then and felt the power and heard the tires burning when I floored it doing 45 MPH... Oh and we did our own Rebuilds back then as Minimum wage was $1.85 an hour.... Yup, you read it right! I didn't know how great it was. To be alive back then but I sure do now! (He smiles remembering seeing his future wife in her purple, super mini, skirt that first time.)

Friend of mine has his dad’s original 65 GTO convertible, bought new! Triple black, tri power 4 speed. Unrestored and looks like brand new!

What a sweet machine. reminds me of my '64&1/2 metallic blue Mustang 289ci, 4 speed, 4 barrel all factory. However I took it from the dealers to a mechanic friend who tore out the single exhaust system right up to the manifold and put in dual exhausts with glass-pack mufflers. Alas my ex wife totaled it in '68...Sigh!

A pristine goat. I love the sound of a 4 speed.

So happy for this man !! Good for him. Hope he enjoys it for decades to come. May it never leave the family.

Wow what beautiful original gto, 65's are so sharp looking. I own a 69 gto and have had it nearly 30 years. I love me some pontiacs, my dad had a 65 tempest custom convertible. We put in a 428 with tri power and a 3:55 posi with disc brakes. My dad also had a 67 lemans with a butler 474 and a few other Pontiacs as well. Thanks for sharing!

My gramps is the single owner of a black 64 SS chevelle 327 4 speed dual exhaust. Restored, but has all original stuff, such as tires and exhaust.

I've grown up around men like this everywhere I've grown up..thank God for real men like this..when I saw his garage it reminded me of a good friend that trained me in the beginning of my electrical career..Tom Patty..he was a 440 car man..we lost him this year..I wish u had pics of his place and the 440 cars he restored..

Wow fantastic ! Beautiful car. Now picture this car in fire engine red in a convertible [white top], red interior, with the same equipment, 389, tri power, 4 speed, 3.90 gears, red line tires and that was my first brand new car back in June 65 . Ordered the car in Feb 65 but the 3.90 gears were not in production at the time and had to wait almost 3 extra months for them. If I recall, the standard rear end gear package with the tri power was 4.33's and I didn't want that stiff a rear gear so I waited for the 3.90's. Only had the car for 5 months, traded it in Dec 65 cause I got 3 speeding tickets in 4 1/2 months and figured I better send the 'cop magnet' down the road. I did and I was sorry afterwards. Also had a loaded 67 GTO ragtop I owned for 4 years and traded that one too. Another big mistake. I traded my 67 in on a rare 71 Chevelle Malibu 400 ragtop I have owned now over 52 years. [mulsanne blue, 402ciBB, 4 speed, 3.31 12 bolt posi rear, 32K miles]. I'll never get rid of this car. Good luck with your 65 GOAT, a timeless classic.

Amazingly well preserved Goat! I had the same exact car, in white. Let it slip away, but still have the custom lic plate. "SIXPAK"

Greeting from just north of Pontiac, where these were engineered and built. As a kid I had the promo poster of the '64' blue GTO on my wall. The '65' was a perfect improvement. The Pontiac tri power had a tendency to lock up wide open with out meticulous maintenance. Dad had a '60' Bonneville convertible we crashed cause of that problem. But man, Pontiac was building excitement, not just with these, but the whole line from here, Michigan performance magic. 'Smoke em if you got em!' Dreamcruise is coming!

Love the reverb switch. I have fiddled with rims and stance but I will not modify my interior, it's a time capsule/machine and I love every moment of my life spent I'm that environment

This gave me goosebumps! What a legacy- the beautiful Goat, and you and your father enjoying it together. My first car in high school was a ‘65 LeMans. 326 / slip and slide/ Rochester two-barrel. It was my pride enjoy until I went off to college.

My late father had an identical 1965 GTO. Traded it in on a 1967 GTO convertible that I absolutely loved driving my junior and senior years of high school and beyond. Gorgeous vehicles.

I love the way you baby that car. When I was 17 years old I bought a 65 GTO four speed for $850.00. It was never driven so gently. Oh yeah, I'm 57 now.

hi i had the same exact car same color my uncle bought it in 1965 drove it on weekends and gifted it to me in 1973 when i graduated high school .i loved that car i kept it as it was i recently sold it to a car collector in 2018 it had been garage kept all of those years .your dad has good taste in cars.

Nice!!! It brings back memories. My dad was also a Pontiac man. As I became of age to drive, he owned a 1962 Star Chief. It had the 389, but an automatic. That car would flat out scream. I would push the RPM's manually going through the gears and it was something I'll always remember. I blew right by several buddies who thought they had Hot cars. I eventually was handed the keys for my H. S. graduation present. Awesome!!!

In high school I had a 66 Ventura 389 2 barrel and that moved pretty good too for a big car.

Brings back great memories of the 60s muscle cars i cruised around back then. Had a '67 SS396/350 Chevelle. ALL those 60s muscle cars were fabulous. Man, what I like to have this beautiful car.

Love that car! Back in the day, I did own a1966, 1968, and a 1969. Love 'em all!

It`s almost a dream seeing this type of ride, by the original owner himself... Absolutely outstanding and unique, and I`m sure this Gentelman receiving a lot of mails coming from potential costumers and buyers. Specialy amazed because all original elements on the car since new, and more respectable you guys never touched the engine. A loving 56 years care, itself pays the bill and worth it. Congratulations, God bless you and keep it riding. Awesome.

Amazing condition for your dad's GOAT. Beautiful color and its a..4 speed!!!!! I was..introduced to muscle cars in a '67 Ram Air III GOAT with..open Hooker headers at age 12. Still remember the smell of the burnt tires, all the smoke filling the interior and how..hard the car pulled while still...sideways, slithering up the road. Never recovered from that..1st ride. Nothing like "healthy" V8 cars. All the best to you and yours 👍👍👍👍

Really cool. Thanks for uploading this. 65 is the best year for GTOS in my opinion and it's in a great color too. My father still has the 69 L71 Corvette he bought new. I doubt there are many one owner muscle cars left out there today.

Love the exhaust note of the old ponchos. Very distinct sound, great drive. Tons of torque, moved as soon as you goosed them. Mine had manual steering and also the center consol. You could take your hands off the wheel and she'd just track right down the road. Great memories, thanks

I had a beautiful 65 Tri-power GTO when I was 17. One day my father caught me going down the block smoking the tires all the way and the next day he put a 4-sale sign on it. I sure miss my GTO

that Pontiac Blue is a beautiful color. my Dad has 3 ‘64s…two in different reds & one in Gold. all have tri-power & are 4-speed cars. they’re a blast.

Wow, I had a 65 of the same color, 4-speed three deuces, but it had the black tonneau roof. Mine was factory stripped with no undercoating but it had the reverberating AM radio. I could burn all the rubber off in one burnout if I wanted to! Thanks for the video!

Thank you for sharing. My dad had a 65 in nightwatch blue. Sadly he sold it in 72. I remember standing on the front seat, holding the grab bar and yelling faster! Seeing this brought back a flood of memories.

I had a '64 GTO that I sold in '71 when I went into the service for 20m years. Not a day goes by that I don't regret selling that car.

Aqua bay mist...my second favorite color on a 65.... my first is iris mist. This is a gorgeous car, and well taken care of. Love the rally one rims! I was prez of the Ohio valley gto association for a few years in the late 80’s early 90’s. To be around all of these magnificent cars was pure joy. Mine was a 67 convertible, Montreux blue, parchment interior, white top, hi-PO motor. I sold it in the mid 90’s.....yea, I was STUPID, I know

We almost bought an iris mist 65 back in the 90's but it needed too much work at the time. Those are pretty rare.
