My Cycle Kart Rear Wheel Hubs

So I did something a little different for my GN GNAT cycle kart rear wheel hubs. A lot cycle karters modify kart hubs from Azusa, which involves grinding studs so they can fit inside the hubs...then you have to drill the hubs. It's a pretty sketchy setup, but it works.
The Arizona guys made some nice hubs, but they are hard to find nowadays.
Renegade Cycle Karts is making a new hub setup that's pretty similar to my setup...it's kind of cool that we were working on a similar solution separately. To learn more, go to cyclekart.net/ or visit their cycle kart page: / oklahomacyclekart
PS: Regarding my shaky hands, the condition is called Essential Tremor. It sucks, but I don't let it own me....build on! To learn more watch this: • Essential Tremor is mo...

    Thanks for this, it answers one of my key questions that has been a little hard to research; how people side mount the motorcycle wheels on cyclekarts

    Nice to see someone doing things a little different. You have some good reasoning and good ideas. Keep up the good work. People that don't have any physical problems don't realize how fortunate we are 99% of the time.

    Great idea to add that counterbore. Agree it’s a proper way to mount the wheels. Thanks for sharing!

    Well that seems simple enough. I was wondering how to make the rear axle set up work. Parts are easy to find and reasonable. Thanx for your knowledge...... Also do you think a wooden frame would work out of 2x4s? Don't have a welder.

    There have been a few modern wood framed cyclekarts...their frames are typically ash wood. Old 'cycle cars' (ie 1920's GN's, etc) had wood frames. Good luck!

    Thanks for sharing your progress. I’m just looking into a cycle kart project after having restored old cars and machines. On the subject of wheels, is it worth scrounging motorcycle wrecking yards or is there a new source for wheels? Thanks for any experience you may share

    If you have a good motorcycle salvage yard nearby, it could be cheaper. I paid $25/wheel. However $400/set is a good price

    Very nice work and design, I am interested in the differential. My dad had the same condition, tremors, he was an old school machinist, I feel ya. A cup of coffee is hell I know, or any liquid. When I get tired I start shaking, or if I purposely start shaking any part of my body it just keeps going. I physically have to stop it. It's great for shaking a paint can, I turn it on and then have to use my other hand to stop it. I feel you. Anyway, this cart is cool, the best design I have seen yet, I am in the dream stage. I kinda want a 2 cylinder. What are your thoughts?

  • @tremortech

    @tremortech

    2 жыл бұрын

    A two cylinder would be cool, similar to the old cycle car's...unfortunately the rules for racing with other CK's dictate using a 212ish single cylinder engine. Good luck!

    Is the other rear hub the same as this one? Both driven by the axel?

  • @tremortech

    @tremortech

    Yes, I've keyed both hubs to the axle. My rear track is a few inches narrower than the rear and I run higher rear air pressure...just like the old GN's & Frazer Nash's
