My custom self sourced Voron 1.8 3d printer

I made a custom Voron 300x300 based on the V1.8 using parts from a Kywoo Tykoon Max and some other parts I had spare. The motion system is from the V1.8 with the rails on the top so the rods can be attached to the frame. The bed is mounted to a custom frame and motion system with dual steppers made on my Workbee CNC cut from 4mm Aluminium and it worked out so much better than I had imagined.

Nice build, like yourself I enjoy scratch building/modifying printers, i have taken inspiration for Voron printers and constructed my own builds, reusing parts form other printers, 👍i have a hack for mounting MGN9 rails on 2020 v sot using a1mm thick x16mm shim washers between the rail and the 2020 on for each mounting bolt. "sounds wrong but works very well.".... 🤓 this hack makes repurposing an old ender 5 frame quite possible.... thanks for sharing you build 👍
There is nothing wrong with pulling a Tony Stark and building something in a cave out of scraps! It turned out beautifully and runs like a Voron ought to. I've got a 1.8 Frame kicking around that I bought on deep discount that I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with. Maybe I'll pick up some old printer and raid it for parts! Go get a serial number, if you haven't already! You can do it by posting a link to this video in the VoronCoreXY subreddit.
Here I was thinking I was the last '1.8' ever built. Mine has a similar number of deviations from the spec for the same reason: I used what parts I already had, where I could. Mine also has a weird Z axis because the leadscrews I had were slightly too long, so it also has a 'deeper' area under the bed. Your bed mount is much nicer than mine, I have some z-wobblex's from Mirage-C to install later to try and fix that. Very nice build!

I was so pleased it didn't have any z banding issues and I think very lucky.
Looks great. self sourcing was more work than it seemed but Ive found it to be really satisfying after building a V0 and a trident.

so many small parts that you don't think about and buying bolts as and when is daft and expensive.
Nice work Lee! I’ve never owned a 3D printer, maybe never will, but still enjoyed watching you put this together.

3d printers are almost at the point of click and print, perhaps one more year and it will be easy.
Nice, clean build!
I have the same issues with my screens. Sweet build with your custom cnc parts.

Thanks for watching.
Are you running a single MGN9 rail or MGN12 for the x axis? I'm trying to find a MGN12 mod for the 1.8 but I'm not having any luck.

I used tap so it's not 3d printed, but it was just in the trident stl files i didn't download anything special.
Dragon burner is better and lighter
