Omg this is crazy!! I’m so glad your okay, cheers to a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
Crazy 😧 glad to hear you all good now 🙏🏻
Yikes. I have a colony of Palythoa Grandis that has outgrown its space and I will need to frag. I am glad I saw this so I take extra precautions. I did not know that the Grandis were the most potently toxic of the zoas and palys. I am glad you are better now
Man, what a nightmare to go through. Glad you’re on the mend.
Glad to hear you’re okay :)
Glad you have made a full recovery.
Glad you're ok!
Brave to document it 👍
Crazy, glad you are doing alright
glad to hear your ok
Same. I couldn't breathe, and it felt like there was a constant electric shock in my arms and legs! I'm glad you're okay. Lesson learned.
Had a very similar experience not a fun couple of days after glad you're ok
Glad your ok mate
Couple years back,I adjusted my aqua scape and didn't see a brown paly growing it ripped.I had the same exact symptoms.I didnt want the wife to panic,so I told her it was a bad flu bug. This was a great video 👍
Thank GOD your okay.
Glad your ok. That toxin is the biggest thing that scares me in the hobby. I understand that certain zoas and corals are more susceptible to having the toxin than others.
wow thats scary glad your okay now
100% spot on, like many things early medical treatment can save you from falling very ill requiring hospitalization or even death.
No one should be keeping Grandis. There are a million other corals that won't mess you up like that
The budding reefing relationship of prestige reef and reef dork is an awesome one. It's like the making of a. MCU universe. Eventually they will all meet in an avengers style reefing video

Bet Reef Dork’s gutted! Glad you’re ok buddy 👍
That was a close call! I'm glad that you survived. To others, take the advice, call the ambulance. Palytoxin is no joke. It will kill you, people in your home, and if there's enough of it in the air, it will go through the vents and take on your neighbours as well, if you live in an apartment.
Damn brother. Sooooo glad you pulled through. You just really made me think twice about playing in my corals. I do use gloves but I will be ordering today. A chemical grade respiration mask. Wow man so sorry brother
Sorry that happened to you and I’m glad you’re ok! I watched the whole video in earnest because I was hoping you would tell us what you did wrong. Sounds like you used ample safety gear but I missed what you think caused you to get hit with the toxin.

Perhaps the face mask didn't properly fit and unfiltered air got through the sides. That is the only logical explanation I could think off. Next time a full face respirator might sound more appealing.
I know I'm late to this, but defo go to the hospital BEFORE things get bad. Once damage happens, there isn't much we can do to reverse it. If we intervene before things get bad we can take steps to prevent further damage to your body
So glad you're well now. What will you do different next time?
The only thing i saw which is a no no is the paper mask that protects you from dust. You need a proper toxin respirator

Bloody hell Ryan so glad you are all right now, next time get straight to hospital..
Glad you are ok. The perfect crime - bump you off pinch your nicest coral and frame Reef Dork!
What a nightmare, can’t believe you didn’t go to the hospital, could have been a very stupid mistake. Glad you’re okay!
I had the same after fragging palys. was in hospital for 2 days. So scary. I had all the same symptoms.
Glad you are ok. I had Formalin poisoning last Friday and I was how you were at the beginning of this video. I could not breathe and every time I almost fell asleep, it really felt like I was blacking out/dying/getting no oxygen so I'd wake back up gasping for air until I caught my breathe and my face and fingers tingled with oxygen. I would try again to fall asleep, only to be low on oxygen again. Waking up gasping and shaking. Oh, and it felt my brain and ear canals were on fire. This went on for 3 days. Ultimately, as advised in the video, wear protective goggles, mask, and gloves. My body's reaction was from 1 small sniff of formaldehyde(trying to treat brooklynella) and I am not allergic to anything. Stay safe out there reefers!

Pro tip do it outside with a fan blowing behind you to blow everything away and have a shower straight after

So pleased to hear you are feeling better - that was so concerning. With all those precautions, how were you poisoned? I wouldn't bother selling them, not worth that risk for you or your customers. Take care mate. 🙂

Glad all is ok. Agree with Jay with all the PPE and extra thick lamming gloves how did it happen. Maybe there were some toxins still airborne when you took off your PPE.

A family of 5 from Adelaide, Australia were sent to hospital due to paly toxin poisoning. The reef tank owner was cleaning the rocks outside of the tank and they had zoanthids on them, which in-turn released airborne ‘spores’. I’m guessing it’s the same case here

@@jaysrealreefuk yeah they all recovered in hospital! This happened in 2017, crazy stuff though
Glad to hear ok, very scary! New to corals and just learnt about the whole palytoxin thing. Are the grandis palys that dangerous? Got a frag and just in qt tank at the moment but hearing this I don’t know whether to get rid of it?! If you just leave them on not frag or anything are they generally safe?
Hope your mrs is looking after you :)
I had a very similar experience about 5 years ago. I believe I threw up 14 times in 24 hours. I said to myself “If I throw up one more time, I’m going to the hospital”, but I didn’t throw up after that. Worst day of my life
You got pretty good teeth for a brit. Jokes aside i was fragging zoas the other day and I was kinda tense through the whole process
So did you go to the hospital in the end? How did you treat yourself? What did you do to recover?
Ive seen 2 of your videos about palytoxin. Purchased 1 small zoa. How do i avoid poisoning? Obviously until it grows, but putting my hands in the tank will toxify me? Or will it take cutting them?
Thank you for the videos lm often fragging Zoas too. Why do you think it has happend? Quit suprized by it because you took caution. Greeting for Germany, glad that you are ok.
Did you get any medical attential to test your oxygen level . This occured to my friends father in law at fish store. He tried to boil coral off rock. Thank you for posting this video. Happy to hear you are doing better.
Maybe time to get a vented chemical fumé hood? Sure something can be DIY
I'm new to zoas and palythoas (maybe a month in the tank). I also have favia. I have a 75 gal. How long does it take for them to spread or grow? I feed once a week reef roids. But only a 1/3 of what the directions say.
Oh my god, that must've been terrifying. I'm so glad you're OK. I think you're right, it's too much of a coincidence for it not to be the Coral. If I was your mum I'd be standing over you while you put all your coral up for sale! 😂😂
Glad you are ok. What has happened to Mindy?
Having gone through this would you still consider Palys a good addition to the average hobbyist’s tank?
Wow... Is it that bad? I always wondered....
You know the worse thing, the ER couldn't do anything more than give you basically benadryl and something for nausea like Phenergan. If you got really bad, they could put you on a breathing machine. Be careful, that's some bad stuff. I don't like palys and I have no plans of selling them.
well I hope u also did corona test sincr nowdays you cannot know what it is. It is good you ok. I had once an abscess on my finger - got nicked when cleaned my reef. Had to get treatment in hospital.
Try carbon mask. That paper mask is no good
Not good! Glad you’re feeling better now. Maybe a proper face mask would be better and wash the gloves fully before removing them
Did he mention how he thinks he got infected? Maybe touched his mouth or face after fragging?
I shouldn’t say this but it’s always b***** bacteria infections I get, I suffered in relative silence until the point my good old mother forced me to A&E and they pumped me full of iv antibiotics etc so I never mess about now, the slightest cut and working in dirty saltwater always makes me nervous now it’s happened 3 times 🤦🏻♂️ the things we do 😂
Palytoxin is no joke.. was like the worst panic attack in the world
I think using the saw most likely created aerosol droplets of water that contained palytoxin and you most likely inhaled them. Thanks for sharing this though as I was due to frag a colony of this species at some point this year and didn't realise. In fact the person that sold me them probably hasn't got a clue either so I'll let him know too. It does raise the question of responsibility though as currently the seller has no responsibility to provide information about toxicity when selling a paly or zoa. The responsibility sits with the buyer. Maybe that needs to be changed....
How can you keep 7 copper bands alive but not your self!
Confused how you got poisoned after wearing all of that protection. Did it happen because you didn't wash your hands and tried to remove some protective measure and boom, went in your mouth or nose?
@sepulcher8263
Жыл бұрын
Looking at a comment below this, apparently they can release airborne spores.
Maybe airflow in your workspace wasn't quite good enough & you still working in that same area after the fragging caused you to inhale aerosolised toxin particles?
Aww so no free corals, I wanted to call dibs on coral room :,( Sorry properly too soon for the jokes glad you recovered, iv heard some really bad horror stories about people not making it. You may want to try a carbon mask, just a normal dust mask ent gonna help much for toxins, but a guess you know that now
Good thing you are ok. 👍🏻. Very lucky you didn’t progress to respiratory failure. The neurologic consequences and pulmonary and cardiac complications and consequences can result in respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest. Be careful out there.
a 110 heart rate isn't the biggest thing to worry about. It's no different from taking in too much caffeine or nicotine. Yeah it'll make you feel uncomfortable, and worried that it might cause issues but it's not something to worry about. Yeah, pay attention to it, make a note of it. But that's still in the "healthy" range of 60-120 that most doctors say.
i have also been poisoned by palytoxins and all i could think about is how is this not talked about more? and how is this not warned more to beginners i have no idea. yeas its rare ive been in the hobby 15 odd years and only had it this year but its just madd its not talked about more often
thanks for sharing your story, grandis are sneaky bastards >_
Inappropriate cow birthing gloves 😂
Can you still do a copper video? Please……?
Anxiety
Are you not living with Mindi any more?
You needed predisone to take inflamation down of respiratory.
Need a p100 mask
If fragging zoas I put on my goggles like you did, but also a gas mask that filters out biologicals and I wear gloves. I then open all windows, put on my air purifier and only then I'm ready to start fragging. The used gloves I throw away in my dustbin outside... I am sure playing soccer is less dangerous, even boxing for that matter

I deliberately put If in my first sentence. I don't like to make it my regular business of fragging them and I do not want to advise people to take fragging them lightly.
Are we going to find out you’re patient zero for a new strain of covid 22 caught from messing with zoas?
How ya not wifed up yet buddy, your too beautiful to be alone.
Bro, you got universal healthcare in UK. What are you waiting for? 🇬🇧
It could of been covid, if you had not long eaten, from doing the test. as you must wait for 1 hour to test after eating anything or drinking anything unless water to give accurate results. Quite easy to do the test wrong without knowing
Are you English?
