70 thru 73 Firebirds one of the coolest looking Pontiacs made. I’ve admired them since l was a kid. Can see why you keep it looking good for so long. Can’t believe they had to close with such a classic lineup?

Hi Bob. Beautiful, mate. Absolutely beautiful. I love them all for different reasons. Your '71, I would love simply because of the colour and the magical sound of a large amount of cubes. The '69 is stunning - inside and out - and a beautiful survivor of the 327 variant. I totally approve of the reduction in width of the Cragars as I don't understand how people think this enhances the vehicle when you cannot use it as intended....or indeed put anything in the trunk. Love the detailing under the hood and the addition of the chin spoiler.....and just the fact that you're tidying it up without over-restoring the beast. The fact she's a manual box adds to her perfection. Then there's the Grand Prix..... The late 70s was a time when manufacturers went a little sideways in their designs, had a pile of smog "tech" and weren't listening to the consumer....but a few gems still came out of it. One of them sits beside the blue Camaro. I love the Grand Prix because they are of a time when I first started noticing American cars on our roads (they had been thin on the ground until then here in New Zealand...or at least where I grew up). They were so different from the British, Australian or Japanese vehicles we usually saw and they ALL had V8s, so caught my ear with my Dad being a petrolhead and me spending so much time out in the garage with him and his mates, working on their cars. A friend of my Dads had a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am he had brought out from America with him. It was black with the gold honeycomb wheels and full-on gold pinstriping and that big bird on the hood. NOTHING I had ever seen before could compare with that - and then he took 10-year-old me for a blast in it.....and it was manual too! Pontiac became my favourite marque at the time and GM my favourite manufacturer. Dad being a Ford man never knew....and I didn't come out with it until he learned the error of his ways, drove an Australian-made GM, a Holden Commodore, in 1988 and fell in love....and surprised everyone by buying it! Anyway....the Grand Prix is a cruiser. A big, sloppy, land yacht of a car to some, but to me, you don't drive a GP to break speed records and win races. You drive it to enjoy the cruise....and this was very nearly my pick, because its more of the style of the way I drive nowadays (I'm 55 and like you, although driving fast is still fun occasionally, I'm not out to challenge myself in that regard as much any more...and certainly not when my wife and kids (22 and 19) are in the car. However, the 1968 blue Camaro convertible is absolute favourite. Why? Well, I own a Triumph Stag with a 4.4 litre Leyland V8 instead of the 3-litre Triumph trouble-box. I've had 7 years of topless driving to a V8 soundtrack and its something I could not live without. She was a 6-pot with a sick engine but good bones. Refreshing the paint back to a beautiful (and original) colour was a no-brainer. The top was tired, so you replaced it with a colour you like that still looks damn good on the car. Those wheels and caps look perfect and the nose cone stripe ties the new top into the look in a way that the original dark blue top would not have been. The chin spoiler and shaker hood are dress pieces that make the whole exterior package look fantastic - especially with the tidy-up of the interior and the addition of the modern conveniences. She's the overall high scorer in my book - can take 4-5 people on a topless cruise any time there is a fine day, she has the looks of a beast and the response from the loud pedal to back it up. If it had a manual gearbox and a road-race cam, I would be chomping at the bit as I write this, begging you to sell it to me! Even as it is, I would love to have one exactly the same as that - especially if it had that neat bit of history of the factory markings on the firewall. It's in one of my favourite colours and a white top on a metallic blue car ALWAYS looks good. Drive them all and enjoy them, mate. I love them all and would love to drive the Grand Prix as my daily, but the '68 has my heart. All the best!

Nice collection. I’m a big time Pontiac guy. My favorites are early 2nd Gen Firebirds and malaise era colonnade GPs. Like someone else posted if the GP was a 73-75 with round headlights, that would be my choice. But I’ll have to go Firebird on this one. I’m not a big fan of 1st Gen Camaros but I like the blue 68. I also have a 75 GP with T Tops that’s in pretty good shape. An LJ with under 50,000 miles on it. 400 bucket seats and full power interior. Building a mild 455 for it to make it run better. Changed the stock 2.56 gears for 3.23 posi and it actually helps with headers and dual exhaust. Also have an 89 Formula 350 with some bolt ons and a Paxton supercharger that makes it that much more fun to drive. Certainly not as quick as your Bird, though. So I’d rate them 1 Firebird 2 GP 3 68 4 69. But they’re all cool cars no matter how you slice them. I’d be proud to own any one of them.

I'm a Camaro person, but I don't like convertibles, or slow Camaros. But I do like speed when I need it, and I like the looks of the tires and wheels on the Firebird, so my favorite is the Firebird.

The Grand Prix would be my favorite if it were the '73, '74, or '75 round headlight model. Just not a fan of those square headlights. At least it does not have T tops, which is a huge point in its favor. Not a fan of convertibles either, so that leaves out the '68 Camaro convertible. The Firebird has a lot of potential, but the black wheels just ruin it. Would be really cool if it were a Trans Am. So yeah, for me it comes down to the '69 Camaro. I love the color, the stripes. the cowl hood with the cowl induction emblems on it, The Cragar S/S wheels, BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, and the manual transmission. What I don't like are the gold engine covers (should be chrome) and that JD bottle for a coolant overflow just looks cheesy.
