Will This Ratty 1969 Dodge Charger Drive 100 Miles Without Incident?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's the final installment (for now, anyway) on Ralph's 408 stroker powered '69 Charger! So far, so good. Now if only I could fix that horrible driver's seat...

What an awesome car! Agree with you 100%, these cars are meant to be driven. It's like, what are you gonna do? Save it for the next person? Nope, drive it and enjoy! I prefer stuff like this one with a little character, no white gloves needed. Thanks for taking us all for a ride!

This is making me feel better and better about my plans for my somewhat rusty, hail dented and other assorted dinged and dented 73 Roadrunner. It's actually not nearly as ratty as this Charger, so it's going to remain as is other than some (actually quite a bit of) mechanical/functional work. It still has its original paint and stripes, so it's really not a bad survivor.

The paint job on that car is like my 69 power wagon. When I bought it, it was flat black. After I pressure washed it the truck was mostly red with some black streaks. I liked the look so I left it like that.

I had a 1968 charger, the same color as this one. 383 automatic two barrel. I bought it from a volunteer fireman that always wanted to be the first one to the fire hall when there was an alarm. So it was pretty hammered with only 42,000 miles .. it’s smoked oil at the exhaust on every start up when cold, I can still hear the heat riser valve clattering. Those starters in those cars made an undescribable whining sound. The gauges were fluttering most of the time. Once the steering wheel almost broke my thumbs.,, The steering wheel snapped out of my hands all the way to the right in a split second while I was driving. This thing have drum brakes, bias, tires. The door mounted window hand cranks fell off both doors. The seats cracked… there was no performance. It was a real dog. The flip up covers for the headlights didn’t always flip up. Closing a door sounded like I dropped a empty fruit cake king filled with buttons… The bad guys in the movie bullet we’re driving a black at 68 charger. The best thing they could have done to that car was crashed it into that gas station in that crash scene. My 68 charger was The worst quality car I ever owned. Looking at the car in this video, I can pretty much bet that the condition of the interior is not the fault of the previous owners, that’s the way they were. They fell apart. The reason Mopar cars from the 60s go for hundreds of thousands of dollars on those television options is, there are so damn few survivors

Interesting that yours was such a piece of garbage. My ‘68 doesn’t have any of the problems you mentioned, at double the mile and 55 years old. It’s holding up pretty well, all things considered - except for the mild rust issues, and of course the big dumb tires someone installed on it causing rubbing issues.

Every species of plant, tree, mold spore and rodentia fecal matter 🤢 known to the northern hemisphere of planet earth entirely wallops passenger. Random comment…I noticed when you filled up it said 92 octane was highest, in my state we have 93…why in the name of the holy roller does every state have different gas??? You often here folks complaint about “them damn oil companies” but if the oil companies just made 87,90 and 93 and that’s all it would be far less work and cost less. My Uncle Fred who lives in the pink Cadillac down the road says there are 18 blends of 87. It’s so dumb they are forced to make different fuel for each state. There was a rumor that 100 octane was going to be made for all states to help emissions and power for us hot rodders but I don’t see that happening now.

Different environments needs different fuel. I live over 5000 ft elevation and our lowest octane is 85 and highest is 91 to no detriment of whatever you put it in. I'm sure smog and temperature concerns also factor into the different blends as well.
