Will This Ratty 1969 Dodge Charger Drive 100 Miles Without Incident?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It's the final installment (for now, anyway) on Ralph's 408 stroker powered '69 Charger! So far, so good. Now if only I could fix that horrible driver's seat...

What an awesome car! Agree with you 100%, these cars are meant to be driven. It's like, what are you gonna do? Save it for the next person? Nope, drive it and enjoy! I prefer stuff like this one with a little character, no white gloves needed. Thanks for taking us all for a ride!
This is making me feel better and better about my plans for my somewhat rusty, hail dented and other assorted dinged and dented 73 Roadrunner. It's actually not nearly as ratty as this Charger, so it's going to remain as is other than some (actually quite a bit of) mechanical/functional work. It still has its original paint and stripes, so it's really not a bad survivor.

Awesome! I would rather spend 20 hours on mechanical improvements than 2 hours on body and paint work - but maybe that’s just me…
I dig the 70's stance...it fit's the car like Daisy Dukes on Daisy Duke! Yeeehaaaa!!!
I'm going to miss it 😥. I love 68-70 chargers so so much. Please bring us another Jamie. Love your videos.

You won’t have to ask twice… I’m literally bringing another home as we speak! 🙂
The paint job on that car is like my 69 power wagon. When I bought it, it was flat black. After I pressure washed it the truck was mostly red with some black streaks. I liked the look so I left it like that.

OMG! There you are! I thought I would never see you again! Just because I am running from the law, shouldn't mean that the Feds should come after you for bantering with amazing me on KZread! Ahhh, don't worry... looking over your shoulder and sleeping with one eye open for the rest of your life, really isn't that bad. Great to see you again my friend! However, the video was so-so.

Agreed - on all counts 🤣
Love those Chargers! The only downside to them (in my opinion, short guy problems) is the location of the inside door lock! It leaves bruises and scratches on the back of the arm when ya go to throw your arm up on the window! You know, to look cool cruising down the road!😂

Great cruise, great music. Rock on! Car is a badass!
I think most people don't drive old cars because they are scared they might have to think. New cars are like an appliance. Set it and forget it.

I’ve watched all your videos on the Ratty Charger and many others. And because of your knowledge, personality and unique commentary style in these videos, I can say that watching this particular one was so satisfying! I was so happy to see this footage. The way you shot it, cut it - everything. I love that Charger. I’ve wanted one since I was 14 and I’m 58 now. This made me so happy. Thank you, man.

For once in a long while I can drive my Ratty Charger again. Every other Mopar Fan, I hope you do your research, ask a lots of questions, there are no dumb questions before you have a Bad Experience like I have had with my Charger. Yes, a very expensive lesson at that. Well, I know I have a Ratty Charger but that's why I also have a Ratty Steering wheel. How many of those have you seen besides mine? In the seventies my friends '70' Charger had a steering wheel like the one I have, it works. Good Job Jamie, can't wait much longer to get it on the road again. Brother & Sister Mopar fans good luck with your projects or just drive the wheels off of it. Always "Mopar Or No Car" That's a big 10/4. Over and Out.
Awesome car! Sure wish I could afford a ratty 69 charger again!👍
The 70s-80s stance is awesome
It would be fun to take the old 66 route out of Chicago to LA then up when you get that car. If you did I would meet you in Tulsa and buy your dinner. Im sure life dictates a more direct route home tho. Anyway be safe and have a fun trip. Looking forward to footage....nice cruise music btw.

I ha Tor Red 69 R/T 440 Charger. I towed a fully loaded tandem U-haul trailer from Minneapolis Minnesota to San Diego California without incident . And a year later back to Minnesota. Only problem I had was rear axel bearings. First one to repair was in Auburn California and the second one to replace was in Salt Lake City Utah.
Yes sir no problem!

Cool driving video. Coolest car on the road. Sucking gas and kickin ass.
I had a 1968 charger, the same color as this one. 383 automatic two barrel. I bought it from a volunteer fireman that always wanted to be the first one to the fire hall when there was an alarm. So it was pretty hammered with only 42,000 miles .. it’s smoked oil at the exhaust on every start up when cold, I can still hear the heat riser valve clattering. Those starters in those cars made an undescribable whining sound. The gauges were fluttering most of the time. Once the steering wheel almost broke my thumbs.,, The steering wheel snapped out of my hands all the way to the right in a split second while I was driving. This thing have drum brakes, bias, tires. The door mounted window hand cranks fell off both doors. The seats cracked… there was no performance. It was a real dog. The flip up covers for the headlights didn’t always flip up. Closing a door sounded like I dropped a empty fruit cake king filled with buttons… The bad guys in the movie bullet we’re driving a black at 68 charger. The best thing they could have done to that car was crashed it into that gas station in that crash scene. My 68 charger was The worst quality car I ever owned. Looking at the car in this video, I can pretty much bet that the condition of the interior is not the fault of the previous owners, that’s the way they were. They fell apart. The reason Mopar cars from the 60s go for hundreds of thousands of dollars on those television options is, there are so damn few survivors
@DeadDodgeGarage

Interesting that yours was such a piece of garbage. My ‘68 doesn’t have any of the problems you mentioned, at double the mile and 55 years old. It’s holding up pretty well, all things considered - except for the mild rust issues, and of course the big dumb tires someone installed on it causing rubbing issues.
Love the stance , fix up the interior and leave the rest alone 😊
New subsciber here, love your channel. I agree with your comment on that 70s look. Think I'm gonna do that with my 68 Charger. I remember fondly of those shackled up hot rods when I was a kid. Keep up the great work.

The 70s stance makes the car. The only change I'd do to the outside is either a correct mirror, or one of those "sport mirrors" that people put on everything in the late 70s and the 80s

Every species of plant, tree, mold spore and rodentia fecal matter 🤢 known to the northern hemisphere of planet earth entirely wallops passenger. Passenger, who just happens to be wearing a red shirt, disappears under a dirt cloud as if being hit by photon torpedos. @DeadDodgeGarage
9 ай бұрын
It’s actually a 408 stroker. In a word… yes, it’s fine. But it *could* use larger. You’ll find the difference in the high RPM horsepower number. The smaller carb favors low end torque.

Random comment…I noticed when you filled up it said 92 octane was highest, in my state we have 93…why in the name of the holy roller does every state have different gas??? You often here folks complaint about “them damn oil companies” but if the oil companies just made 87,90 and 93 and that’s all it would be far less work and cost less. My Uncle Fred who lives in the pink Cadillac down the road says there are 18 blends of 87. It’s so dumb they are forced to make different fuel for each state. There was a rumor that 100 octane was going to be made for all states to help emissions and power for us hot rodders but I don’t see that happening now.
@oldgarbage69
9 ай бұрын
Different environments needs different fuel. I live over 5000 ft elevation and our lowest octane is 85 and highest is 91 to no detriment of whatever you put it in. I'm sure smog and temperature concerns also factor into the different blends as well.
