My CED Video Disc Collection

Фильм және анимация

Surprise! I have some CEDs. This is a format either some of you are very aware of, or haven't heard of before. Long story short, RCA put their money into a vinyl video disc format in the 1980s but that didn't work out so well and they went bankrupt. They also stopped putting movies on the format in 1986. Regardless, I'm just showing off what I have. Hopefully I'll obtain The Empire Strikes Back on CED Video Disc by the end of the year but we'll see.

I forgot to mention... Laserdisc was totally better than CED to begin with. Which is probably why Laserdisc survived as long as it did. Not only is Laserdisc a more convenient format, but the quality was obviously better. Although in CED's early reviews, supposedly it was reviewed as better than Laserdisc because I guess the 'Discovision' titles were absolute garbage. But after 1981 and until the end of time... it's obvious that Laserdisc was the better disc format of the two

I love laserdisc to me laserdisc are actually better then most of the early DVDs what laserdisc I have all still play no problems only ever had 1 disc go bad it was an early discovision title I actually prefer the sound better on laserdisc then DVDs never had issues with weak volume like on a lot of DVDs also laserdisc provide true wide screen DVDs don't

@@michaelliptak358 Yeah I have one or two early DVDs at home and both are pretty subpar, to the point where my Great Escape VHS actually looks better than my Great Escape DVD. Perhaps in 1997 or so they haven't worked out all the kinks. I have no prior exposure to an actual DiscoVision title though I did hear they weren't reliable after awhile. The only LaserDisc I think I actually had a problem with was my NIXON movie, because I think it was probably poorly stored and the first disc had obvious laser rot on both sides (there goes eight bucks)

An imperfect format but not worth completely throwing away. I also suppose it depends on the quality of your player and the discs that you're provided with (important for hardware care). Some movies just turn out better than others I suppose. Sure, I like other formats like Betamax, VHS, DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K, and LaserDisc a lot more, but at least CED has enough room to be unique on its own. I also have a friend that supposedly has a CED player that is "skip-less" but I've never seen it in action so I leave it up to my imagination to see how that works.

I have very many that play all the way through. It's all in how they were stored and many of them weren't stored well. It's also in the stylus and how well the machine is serviced. It's pretty simple. You take care of your equipment and media and it will work properly for you.

@@sturkrazee288 Very true. Which reminds me that I need to replace the needle in my machine, otherwise I might have to get something new. It's a shame they don't make replacement parts for these things anymore
