It was a pleasure listening to your story. I was diagnosed with CES 2 months ago due to a herniated disk like you. I didn’t suffer with the pain as long as you did. I had been having a little back pain for like 5 months. Then Tuesday of that week after a hard sneeze I felt sharp pain in my left leg that gradually got worse over the next couple days. I went to the emergency room twice complaining about the pain and both times they just gave me pain pills and muscle relaxers. By that Friday the pain began going down my right side and I went numb in my groin area. I immediately went to the ER and told them this is more than sciatica someone needs to look in my back. They did the MRI early that Saturday morning and saw I had a large herniated disk and needed immediate surgery. I had surgery that Sunday morning. I’m now 2 months post opp. I still have numbness in my left foot, the back of my left leg and still has saddle anesthesia. I also have to push to urinate. Do you have similar symptoms? Did you saddle anesthesia ever go away? Thanks again for this video, it was very encouraging, and keep fighting. I know I am!

Hi and thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I think that it is so important to share our experience so that people can be more aware of this syndrome. I am 20 months post surgery #1 and 9 months post surgery #2. For me the saddle anesthesia went away after several months. I still have numbness in both of my feet, ankles, and calves. I still walk with a cane, wear braces and do physical therapy where we work on my balance, gait, continued strengthening of my legs and especially my ankles, and do treatments for chronic tendonitis (caused by walking incorrectly for so long). I still have a hard time discerning when I need to pee until it's urgent. I had an accident the other day, but that rarely happens. I have pretty much no feeling sexually and bowel movements have become easier. I went through the process of being approved (and having installed) hand controls for the car. There have been vast improvements and I could see some more in the next 3 months. My sergeon said that people can see improvements for up to a year after spinal surgery. It has been slow progress because nerves take such a long time to regenerate. I do have some permant damage, but like I said, I can walk and I am so very greatful for that. Keep fighting! It's hard work, but worth every minute. Let yourself feel your feelings because it does suck some days just don't sit there. I have found daily gratitude lists very helpful and motivating. @@mylifewithcats2022 Thanks for answering. I'm the same sexually. I've just gained the ability to have an erections but not much feeling. My doctor said the same thing about nerve regeneration and how long it takes. I asked my Dr. if there's anything I can take to help with nerve regeneration and he recommended Alpha Lipoic Acid. I researched it online and it does suppose to help with nerve repair. I don't know if it's helping I"m only 2 months post opp but, I'll try anything at this point. I can say I feel more than I did when I first got out the hospital. I buy mine at Walgreens. My calf muscles are pretty bad as well. Numb on my left leg and very painful. Hopefully the pain subsides over time. Anyway thanks again for responding and for the recommendations. Much success as well on your recovery journey!!
