My Carport Build - Part 1
I'd always wish for a garage but sadly that is still not possible...yet. The next best thing is to install a carport. I finally got my carport built. The measurement came out to be 25-ft X 22-ft .
I do regret not extending the carport over the grass area. I was too focus on getting it build ASAP. Overall having a carport is very nice. Especially with the summer heat (Texas heat is no joke).
I will do a follow up video after I figured out how I want to install my #carport lights and relocating my Tesla outlet. I will also talk about the build quality and what you guys can watch out for if you are also considering getting a carport build for your house.
UPDATE:
Materials and labor you see in this video cost me $2300 for this carport built.
I got my materials from www.steelsurplusinc.com.
Since this video, I recently expanded the metal roof out another 3 feet toward the back by the grass area. I also added rain gutters to get it the way I originally wanted. Wish I would have done that from the start. I will be doing an update (Part 2) video to my carport after I add LED lights and relocate my Tesla charging outlet. I plan to add wood fence over the chainlink fence around the carport for more privacy and concrete that strip of grass you see in the video. Stay tuned for that.
Check out the time lapse of the build here: • My Carport Build - Tim...

Looks great! To quiet the metal roof during heavy rains you could spray the under side of roof with closed cell foam. It would not eliminate the noise but it would surely deaden it some.
Yeah, you should extended 2' or 3' backwards and another 2' forwards and used clear corrugated panels. Once the wooden walls (fence) goes up it be less light for both during daytime and especially at night. It would be less noisy during the wind and rain too. It's better than before. Now you can always use this area for bbqing and for other family events with the shaded patio cover.
Gutters and downspouts! Looks awesome!
I like the design and function! Looking forward to see part 2! Very inspiring and good job!

Hi the work look neat. Also can u tell me the length of Galvanize you purchased please an the steel too. THANK YOU.
Still waiting for part 2, can't wait to see the led lights. BTW are you planing to waterproof the joints and the screws? It seems your area has some heavy rains and rust could be an issue.
Awesome carport. Could you tell me what gauge sheet metal roofing you used?
are the cross beams metal or wood? and how did you attach the tin roof if they are metal?
What size gage are you’re 4x4 post ?
I looked up where you bought the metal and I'm in New Mexico. once you get the metal we where did you find the workers to do the work ? I want one just like yours,thanks.
What kind of company did you contact to do the labor?
It looks great l do carports for a living our buildings are galvalum steel frame and color pannels something similar.
Did you have to procure a permit to put this carport up?
what size is the "C"channels and the size of the square tube supporting the corners and the middle what gauge of roofing metal did you use?
thanks for giving price. i know it varies but still nice to have a ball park. looks great
Where do you get the metal to build it yourself?
Just got a carport just like this built on my property its a tad bit bigger and also has some metal sheet on the siding for protection against hail in my area.
Hi what size beams did you use, were they I beams, L beams or H beams??? Also did you use self tapping screws or did you bolt the frames together???
Thanks so much for your posting
Did they use 4 inch or 6 inch purlins to span the width?
I love the variety on this channel

Great job!
What are the dimensions of the vertical posts? Wall thickness?
Bro 😎 everyone loves it !!!! Just 2 questions: Did you have to pull permit & ball park figure of how much!!!!!
How much snow do you get in the winter? hope not too much, otherwise watch out man.
How much did it cost without labor and whr did u buy?
That's some heavy rain 🌧 I've seen that only a few times in Southern, CA 🤣

How much did it end up costing you? Also do you know where they bought the material? Was it a big box store? I'm thinking of doing something similar for my house. Thanks

Do you mind sharing a list of all your materials and specs? I want to copy paste, lol.

I see you have a gap between the carport and the house and I have the same thing going on with my roof and deck covering and the water just pours through when it rains how would we seal that gap?
@KPhan

At first I added a rain gutter there to direct the rain water from pouring through. I also added a sheet metal to overlapped that gap from the house roof over the carport roof. No more water pouring through that gap.

Cool vid! I have a 20-yr old Accord Couple - same color - same "sunburn". ;) Still runs great! Cool vid. It IS pretty loud in the rain, though isn't it? Can you hear that inside?
@KPhan
4 жыл бұрын
Hello. Yeah that Accord is 1999 and recently the transmission is out. We are looking for a new car to replace it. Time to retire it at about 170K miles. I'm glad to hear your Accord is still running great. Depend on how heavy the rain, you can hear it. I can hear it more when I am in the living room since. Its not too bad. A worthy trade off to keep my car in the shade. :)
So you put steel posts directly into the ground? You are aware that that will rust rather quickly, right?
@KPhan
3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I didn't think of rust. The steel post is coated or primed/ready to be paint. The post is buried 24" deep and concreted. My builder built it that way. I didn't questioned it and thought it would help make the carport much sturdier this way. Hopefully it will be a long, LONG time before dealing with rust should it later become an issue. For now, I am enjoying this carport for the time being. :)

you should put some gutters on the end there so all that water doesnt sink your slab over time.
One more thing where did u get the material from?
@KPhan
4 жыл бұрын
Hi. The materials was bought from Steel Surplus Inc. See video description for link.
Did you have to get clearance
Looks great! There wasn't a problem with Code or Permits?
@chrisloesch1870
2 жыл бұрын
I doubt he got permits just looking at the video and likely in the building setback. It’s a permanent structure once he cemented the posts in which was a mistake. It’s also on the front of his house so it could also very likely be a zoning violation in addition to a building code violation. He’s also talking about doing a solid wood fence in the setback which is typically a no no as well. The municipality might make him tear all that down in a few years when they drive by and discover it. Not hatin just sayin.
If you dont mind me asking. How much did you pay? Materials & labor
