My Carport Build - Part 1

I'd always wish for a garage but sadly that is still not possible...yet. The next best thing is to install a carport. I finally got my carport built. The measurement came out to be 25-ft X 22-ft .
I do regret not extending the carport over the grass area. I was too focus on getting it build ASAP. Overall having a carport is very nice. Especially with the summer heat (Texas heat is no joke).
I will do a follow up video after I figured out how I want to install my #carport lights and relocating my Tesla outlet. I will also talk about the build quality and what you guys can watch out for if you are also considering getting a carport build for your house.
UPDATE:
Materials and labor you see in this video cost me $2300 for this carport built.
I got my materials from www.steelsurplusinc.com.
Since this video, I recently expanded the metal roof out another 3 feet toward the back by the grass area. I also added rain gutters to get it the way I originally wanted. Wish I would have done that from the start. I will be doing an update (Part 2) video to my carport after I add LED lights and relocate my Tesla charging outlet. I plan to add wood fence over the chainlink fence around the carport for more privacy and concrete that strip of grass you see in the video. Stay tuned for that.
Check out the time lapse of the build here: • My Carport Build - Tim...

    Looks great! To quiet the metal roof during heavy rains you could spray the under side of roof with closed cell foam. It would not eliminate the noise but it would surely deaden it some.

  • @antomano5623
    @antomano56232 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, you should extended 2' or 3' backwards and another 2' forwards and used clear corrugated panels. Once the wooden walls (fence) goes up it be less light for both during daytime and especially at night. It would be less noisy during the wind and rain too. It's better than before. Now you can always use this area for bbqing and for other family events with the shaded patio cover.

  • @KPhan

    Interesting. I didn't think of rust. The steel post is coated or primed/ready to be paint. The post is buried 24" deep and concreted. My builder built it that way. I didn't questioned it and thought it would help make the carport much sturdier this way. Hopefully it will be a long, LONG time before dealing with rust should it later become an issue. For now, I am enjoying this carport for the time being. :)

    I doubt he got permits just looking at the video and likely in the building setback. It’s a permanent structure once he cemented the posts in which was a mistake. It’s also on the front of his house so it could also very likely be a zoning violation in addition to a building code violation. He’s also talking about doing a solid wood fence in the setback which is typically a no no as well. The municipality might make him tear all that down in a few years when they drive by and discover it. Not hatin just sayin.

So current material cost new total is about $1200 to get it the way I originally wanted. Grand total with labor and everything is about $2500. Wished I would have done that from the start. I got my materials from www.steelsurplusinc.com. I will be doing an update (Part 2) video to my carport after I add lights and relocate my Tesla charging outlet. I will also concrete the strip of grass at the back. Stay tuned for my update.
