Last year when I was still green I watched all of your videos, some multiple times. Thanks for laying a clear path for me and so many others. I left home in September 2021 to do my STCW in Ft Lauderdale. I got a few months of daywork and realized I needed a yachtmaster to rise above the din. Luckily I found a boat I could sail on for the season. Between that and an Atlantic crossing I’m sitting here in July 2022, in Palma, with a yachtmaster offshore and many valuable lessons and skills learned along the way. Still struggling to break in, but now I feel I’ve got my head above water and really happy with how far I’ve come. So, thank you for all that you did. You inspired me, gave me confidence to depart for the unknown, and helped me to realize my dream; to work on a superyacht and rise through the ranks! Cheers mate! Hope to run into you in a port somewhere.

I never expect to have less time for myself before I get to the yachting. And you even have time to make high quality videos about it which make me wonder how would you’ve done this. So we’re always here to listen your opinion and professional guidance - I cannot count how many times I question myself “how they not suppose to knew that, it’s a free knowledge in KZread about it” thinking about your profile. Thank you for all the input and don’t get consumed by YT algorithm, you know what’s the most important for you. We will be always here to listen!

Matt. Welcome Back! I'm very happy to see your Mental Health is still intact. Some KZreadrs are not so lucky. Your "planning" of videos came out perfect. I reflect now on the fact that so much of your time went into making them and what suffered. You should be you. Your authenticity is what always makes your videos shine. Sorry for my Ted talk.

So great to se an update from you. Always a pleasure when I get a message that you have updated. I just watched a video on another channel, completely unrelated content, that I follow regularly with a creator going through a similar issue. I think all of us watching need a reminder of just how hard you and other creators must work to entertain us. I have always wanted to create on KZread and your videos inspire me but I am very very aware of the pitfalls of social media. Your candor, honesty, and insight are amazing and I appreciate you sharing. I am not in your industry but I love your content. Keep your focus where it needs to be on your family, career, and real life. You are doing a great job. Forget the KZread algorithm and forget the metrics and just make the videos you want to make. We will keep watching and those that don’t, we’ll they won’t and so be it. You can’t please everyone. Thanks again.

I just mentioned you to Chef Dean and Jared Watney when they posted on IG about what to do in Miami during the Miami Boat Show. I said they should find where Mat from Work on a Superyacht channel is amd get together with him and other yacht KZreadrs. But I didn't hear back from him. I recommended your channel to lots of people over the year. It's the most entertaining informative stuff. It should be required viewing for anyone going to work on a yacht. So much information packed into there that you need to know, or should know. However you come back, if you come back, we look forward to seeing what you put out there.

Glad to see your back again Matthew. I decided to cancel my "the adventures of sailing LAGERTHA" channel to concentrate on others so I feel for you, it was a hard descion to take. I'm glad your still around. I'm sure as your career unfolds keeping your channel live will benefit us all greatly. Do what you love and everything else will fall in place. Layton

Im so happy to see you back even if its just for the update. Your content is really really nice and I will keep watching for as long as i have internet. I know what its like to go through what you have gone through in regards to getting a job opportunity then watching it slip away, it suck beyond measure but i hope you will manage to get your dream job and move up the ranks, then your inspiration story to others in the industry will be that much more "dramatic". All in all, all the best in everything you do and i hope you manage to get that dream position.

I didn't know KZread could do that to a person! I'm glad you've cleared things in your life. You gotta put yourself first. Actually, I've never been expecting you to be a full-time KZreadr considering that you love your job and KZread takes away a lot a lot of time. Thanx to you and your videos I've decided to get into yachting after I finish my university in late summer. I'm not giving up on this. No matter how this channel will change. You showed me a possibility for my future and in which direction to go. Thank you and hope to see you soon, happy and glowing 😎✨

Lovely to listen to your dulcet tones again Matt... Lovely to see you back. I am glad you have seen the light that is "not giving your life to social media"... You have done so much, and as you say will continue to do so, but thankfully you won't become one of the people who become completely enveloped into it and end up "colab"ing with anyone and anything just to get more followers. Stay true to yourself, your wants and desires and most important, always remember what you have just told all of us... You still have a life to lead outside of KZread, so continue to live it. I am sorry about the jobs, it is always disappointing when things don't come through as you expect. But, any captain and owner will be lucky to have you onboard with them 🙂👍

Matthew, I'm glad to see that you are well, and, your personal wellness is very important, so good for you for recognizing that and listening to your body and mind. You've mentioned the other KZreadrs, to which I am subscribed to all as well. You all have something in common the yachting industry, and that your channels are very different to each other to which you all complement each other. Your channel through your creativity has been entertaining and even humorous, it has also always been Informative and Interesting. But for me, it has always been about the fact that you’ve always seemed to provide just the right amount of information and articulated the information in an interesting and clear understanding way. This is what I enjoyed the most, so be yourself and see how it feels, your channel is young, so go and explore, just like you do in your personal and work life. I, for one, am glad to see that you are putting you first. I remember when I made fun of what your priorities should be Work, KZread then Personal life. I believe it should be Personal Life, Work, and then You Tube (social media) if you feel like it. Though I’ve missed your updates, and would miss your channel if it would ever close. But it’s all about you and your wellness, so enjoy life whatever part of it, it is.

I JUST discovered this channel (you can thank Tristan Mortlock) and found some of it informative. I’m in the group that will never work aboard a yacht (nor own one lest I will the lottery - 18’ speed boat is my lot for now) but just enjoy learning about the lifestyle. That said I notice there are only a few vids made after this one (I’ll for sure go back and watch many of the old ones because the presentation is great) and while I 💯 understand what he’s saying - I hope Matthew is doing GREAT even though he’s not posting now. Maybe he got a great job that keeps him too busy and happy. 🤞 Best Luck, Matthew - with wherever you are. 👍

TL;DR I relate! I started my youtube channel in June last year and also ran into this problem, especially 5-6 months in. I went from posting weekly to posting monthly to taking Nov/Dec/Jan off. I was spending a lot of time on it because there was so much to learn and I wanted to get it right and it was taking up all my time. I've started posting again now and I've realised that I need to make the process work for me as much as possible, and simplify it as much as possible, so it doesn't take over. I'm aiming for a video every couple of weeks but I'm not holding myself to a schedule right now because I'm trying to take the pressure off myself as much as possible.

Hello Ryan. It's often only small yachts that employ their crew seasonally. Most large yachts employ their crew permanently, with a holiday package of around 40 to 60 days per year. You'll be on board the rest of the time, and if the yacht isn't in port and doesn't have any guests on board, you will also have weekends free. This includes yachts that only do a single season, because out of season the yacht still needs to be manned, and there is plenty of maintenance work to keep you busy.
