Smidge repellant is the one that many folk in the Highlands use - it's a good one. Park in an open space away from trees and overhanging vegetation..... and yes rain doesn't stop the midge. Oh and don't wear perfume etc

@@Roz.S The Isle of Skye and the west coast in general can be particularly bad at this time of the year if the air is still and damp. We tend to go to the North Ledaig caravan site near Oban where the midges are less of a problem because it is on the coast and there is always a sea breaze

*Safe midge bug protection: Most NATO militaries use a process of dipping uniforms, underwear, socks, etc., in a water/"permethrin" solution. If you are near any hiking or outdoor stores, you can ask about products they have. You dip all clean clothes in the solution and let drip dry. Good to go for 3-6 months. I even think the clothes can be washed and will keep the protection active. Obviously it won't work on exposed skin (that's where regular bug repellant comes in) but, it will work on clothing and any surface you spray on. GOOD LUCK with the bugs!

Painted stone trails started during covid in the woods near here, it was rather sweet & life affirming. Long gone now though I think. Midges are a real pain, not safe cooking with no ventilation so hopefully all sorted. The flinty paths must be tough on bike tyres, Winston was so funny when you wanted him back in his trailer!

This was recorded in mid May. I thought they wouldn’t have been out yet, but I was wrong 🙈😅 With ticks, get the stuff from the vets. The over the counter stuff like Frontline only mildly worked on Winston, but I was still pulling the odd one off every now and then. I switched him to the stuff you can only get from the vets a few years ago and I’ve never had to pull a tick off since. 🙌🏼 Thanks so much for watching.

I go up the west coast every May and never had much trouble with midges. Once I went right to the top but usually cut across from Ullapool to Inverness then make my way back down through the Cairngorms. This year I left later and for the first time had a similar experience as you with them on my last day at Oban and that was enough for me. I only book my sites as I go so I cut the trip short and headed over to Rosemarkie which was midge free. I'd take mosquitoes over them any day.

Hi Roz, I'm no green warrior, but at the same time I don't like using chemicals in enclosed spaces where I stand a good chance of breathing them in. In midge season I would leave a couple of small mesh bags full of Lavender in my tent, both when up and packed away, may be my imagination, but I'm sure it at least reduced their inclination to share my space. Don't know if a small amount of essential oil smeared near vents and your doorway would help too, but cheap enough to try.

The fly screens on the caravan are not done enough for midges, but after that night I did close them all up and shut the windows properly 👍🏼 Thanks so much for watching (at 2am! 😅) Glad you enjoy our videos.

Wonderful yet again and feel bad for laughing with midge episodes. However We've been there with bites so bad. Found trying to camp in a breeze helps and avoid trees. Also Avon's Skin so soft lotion and citronella helps. But oh dear dear, smiling so much throughout video. . Thanks, made our evening again. Have so much fun you and Winston making beautiful memories ❤️

Hello and good day to you both, Unfortunately I only got around to watching your video now. Yes, the mosquitoes or whatever they are can be annoying. When we were still camping, we also had an exterminator that killed the cattle, but you just can't catch them all, so we also have a small cordless vacuum cleaner and whenever we go Whatever we saw, we soaked it up. Great video, very nice with the painted stones. If the brakes on your bike are squeaking, it's usually the brake pads (pads) that have become hard and maybe even a bit dirty. Clean them with a little detergent and water with a brush, sponge or cloth. You can also try cleaning the surface of the blocks a little Let's rough it up with some sandpaper or install new ones. Just never put oil on it then you will no longer have any braking effect. Greetings Oldie 👍

@@Roz.S Yes, yes, almost new, the wheel is ok, but rubber parts age even if you don't use them. See car tires that age yourself at the tire dealer. I once had a bike like that and didn't have any other advice, so I installed leather blocks and from then on it was quiet. Have a good time and don't let the mosquitoes or bugs eat you up. Greetings Oldie👍

    * You have my complete sympathy having to endure being hunted by midges. I hate bugs and, for me personally, visiting Scotland, beautiful as it is, isn’t worth having to deal with them. * I love Winston’s “No” bark when you ask him to get in the trailer😂 * Weighing your muesli? Does it have to be that accurate?😂 Keep up the great vlogs, Roz.

I have never taught Winston the verbal commands for left and right. He knows which was to go if I point left or right, but he can’t see my hand signals when running in front of the bike 😅 I got the goggles because Winston likes to stick his head out of the top - and because he looks cool 😎😅🐶 Thanks so much for watching 👍🏼
