I knew it! I told mike ... "WE ABOUT TO MARTY THIS B^%$#!"
Ha ha..."This is some Marty Zoffen... stuff right here." Dude, you are so right. I love watching these types of videos because they are different. Excellent job on the creation of this one. Go Bay Rat.

FUNNY how a link to Marty pop'd up during this video......
When he rubbed his hands together it sounded like sandpaper lol rough working hands. Awesome neighbor.
Small Tip...The air your forcing in those holes with the air mover is wet air {humidity} You need to place a dehumidifier in the boat and pipe the air from the exhaust into the side of the air mover so evaporation will occur..Remember, you want evaporation, and then evacuation of the moist laden air..a space heater will also speed up evaporation..Heat equals energy equals evaporation..Good luck

thx for the tips jerry !
Man you got yourself a straight up neighbor! Good luck with the project! Can’t wait to see it on the water!
I thought your lunch break was foam you removed, for a split second.
I love it when you make this type of videos. Keep it up!!!

Thanks! Will do!
It took me about a month to dry out my 18ft Carolina skiff. After you get it mostly dry I suggest adding a vent either a 1 inch standard drain plug or do like I did and use a 1 inch captive garboard drain plug. I also am planning on adding a 1 inch standard plug under the center console and used a bit extender to drill through the internal bulkheads to that point. The idea is when Its out of the water I can open the drain and remove the plug and let it air dry using the suns heat. I am pretty sure the water got into mine from screw holes in the floor the under side was solid though it does have one repair. Thats the only bad thing about the Carolina skiff design other wise they are really solid boats. I can't wait to see your fishing videos with it!!!
I would strip it back to fiber glass and run cross stringer then fill it back with foam and reglass a deck back on it. Totally worth the 400 bucks
This is just a great video Huge fan
I like the more frequent videos!
Why wouldn’t you cut a big part of the floor out and then just glass it back in
I’m in the process of negotiating for a Carolina 16 myself. It’s dirty and looks rough but your videos are motivating me for what may soon come my way. If I can get it, I’m planning on making deck size improvements and weld up a poling platform. Keep it up 👍👍

I bought a 1972 16' Starcraft V hull for 400. It was rotted out all the way. I cleaned her down to aluminum. I poured foam leaving a channel down the middle for water. No problems. She glides with a new 30 Suzuki.👍

Mike deserves more business.
Drill some holes between the floor and btm of the boat in the transome, stand it up on the transom against a tree with a chain fall and all the water will drain out. After that plug the holes and you got a dry hull.

Dry but the foam won’t have the same structural integrity? Mine has a soft spot from it which I don’t think will magically reharden when I get the water out

AS A 4 TIME BOAT OWNER or co - owner......BOAT---a hole in the water you pour money into or the 2 happiest days in a BOAT owners life-----the day you buy it and the day you sell it.......but seriously, it looks like you found the guy who can get "it" done!
“That’s My BOAT!!!” Looking at a 16’ Campagna skiff with a 25 Evinrude
We had to do the same thing with my old 19 foot one after 5 years! All will be fine! lol

So this is exactly how you did it? How much better was it afterwards, any idea how much weight reduction?
@manny4491
Жыл бұрын
@@KollynJ The glass repair guy made holes and let the hot sun heat the deck which helped But Because the boat is made up of different logs he had to cut holes in every different log area! I think he also pressurized each area with air that forced the water out of the bottom holes! I know that the hull picked up 4 miles per hour so it was a lot of weight! We kept the boat 5 years longer so it worked out! The guy had the boat for 2 weeks so it was not a quick job!

@@manny4491 how much does that kind of repair run you? I picked mine up for 1500 w a 40hp and this is the first major problem but it’s technically totaled so weighing my options. did the repair last or why did you sell it? Did he drill the holes from the top or from the bottom?

Much slower, much less room, much less distance covered
You said that was a Marty project. Does that mean you are going to put triple OB's on it or just a jet engine?
Have a 2008 19DLX. My Opinion! The horizontal stringers need to be replaced with "longitudinal" to allow water to drain to the bilge pimp. This requires separating the hulls. No screws in top hull "fiber glass" top hull. I had over 700 pounds of water/saturated floatation foam. The water can't be drained any other way and the "wet flotation foam" will never work.

Dammit you got so many hoes in the skiff you had to get a bilge pimp ! Skiff life be wet as hell...😆

Mike, this is depressing news. I've got a 19DLX also. Seems like it's heavy as Hell in the stern.. think I'm gonna put in two drains, down low on the transom .....
So the Carolina Skiffs have separate compartments right?
I worked at Carolina Skiff for 2 years. They don't give a damn about quality just quantity. They quit making these boats just last year because of too many issues.
Glad I saw this. I am going to pass on these. Seems to be a common issue. Looking for my first boat.
just like i thought Everything is fixable ! just need to find the person that knows how

Was it just not worth the repair?l assuming this procedure was unsuccessful? It like to guess my skiff has an extra 100ibs of water maybe less, sits and runs fine with a 40hp 2 stroke I’ll probably just keep running it till the wheels fall off
Split it in half at the seam
too bad you didnt weigh the boat before and after to see if you made any great difference in weight. still best to open it up and get the junk out of there!
Cut the whole top deck off. Remove all the foam. Put new foam in. Glass top back in. Whenever you drill holes in it in the future, use 3M 5200 to seal them.

I'm no pro. "IF POSSIBLE" wouldn't it have been easier to remove the rivets where the the 2 halfs come together? Idk how they go about making those boats. I just sold my 05 dargel scooter 😪

not sure? I have not seen any sign of rivets on any Carolina?

There must be a way, with video, to put "air quotes" on the screen every time you use the word "engineering".
