My Block: Milwaukee's South Side like you've never seen before

Take a look at Milwaukee's South Side like you've never seen before. We set aside cultural and language barriers to learn what it was like for the people who took a chance by leaving their home countries to live in the Cream City.

Despite what happens on Milwaukees south side and a lot of Milwaukee neighborhoods in general just remember there’s a lot more good ppl than are bad in these neighborhoods 🙏

I was a teen in the 90s and walked everywhere and anywhere and yes without a gun. We went everywhere. Anyways this is a great highlight of the Southside. There needs to be more of these types of highlights and not just downtown. There is so much culture here.

Miss the Southside! Still go down there to get authentic food. It is sad at how it has deteriorated from when I left 10 years ago. Still visit family and friends off 13th Cleveland. Lived over 10 years off 11th Lapham, 6th Hayes, 13th Arthur. Too many new faces who don't have that sense of family and community.

Right my oldest who is now 21 but when he was a baby I was walking down 11th and some people drove up to shoot the house we were passing. My baby was 2 months at the time. I had to drop immediately. Luckily I hadn't crossed to the side they ended up shooting at. Normally I would have. I've had bullet holes in my car, one place off 6th Hayes our house got robbed. Still better than the Northside. Before I moved out Milwaukee I was on 29th between Burleigh and Townsend. Grew up on 39th Hampton. Lived off 27th Kilbourne and 35th Cherry. Southside much safer if compared to the prior neighborhoods I've experienced. Now huge culture shock when I moved an hour north. It's been nice not being shot at or witnessing death on the street. They cut hair for crap tho, so still make the trip to get kids cut down there lol. Also, visit family and friends.

Lived on the Southside in the 90's. Couldn't walk 3 blocks for a gallon of milk for my kids without carrying a gun. This crap is just a fluff story.

That's a beautiful story, I'm pro gun rights too. So is much of rural white Wisconsin. You must be thankful you don't live in Canada. From the North Side (me), I like the South Side. Albeit, there are some rough and dangerous areas of the South Side. But fresh Mexican immigrants? Far more civil, family oriented than "chicanos" or any race of Americans 5 or so generations here.

You liar. I grew up next St. Josaphat and never needed a gun in the 80s or 90s when I was growing up there. I own firearms now as adult but you are an absolute liar saying you needed one just travel three blocks. I used to walk everywhere as a kid and here I am in my 30s and perfectly fine.

Right. Showing the "good" and if they only knew the illegal activity to the amount of illegal immigrants is insane! Muskego is nasty, go to the park at night once and count the crackheads.... Still counting huh!
