"My biography is the history of California:" Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo and his Recuerdos

After the US conquest of California, Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo set out to write the story of the land he knew so well. Vallejo was a leading military and political figure in Mexican California, and participated in some of the founding events of US California. Authors Rose Marie Beebe and Robert M. Senkewicz illuminate Vallejo’s life and history and examine the broader experience of the nineteenth-century Californio community.

Took me forever to finally watch this (requested the link back when it was originally recorded), but I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Thank you for illuminating such a rich part of your family (and California/national) history, Mr. Emory! I must read the book now!

My great grandfather, Antonio Angulo Navarrete was sent to live with his uncle Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo after his father, the governor of Baja CA, Pedro Magana and mother were killed. I have Carrillo and Lopez in our family tree. I am trying to figure out the connection.
