This is a really great and insightful overview of equipment. I’ve been looking for my first shin pads as I’m starting out and sizing with with something I’m very concerned about. You explained it so well I know what I need now. Thank you!

Yo Sylvie you’re madddd insightful, it’s so helpful. Plus to everyone watching this! Don’t shy away from a lil pain when it comes to picking and choosing pads, when you get in that ring (if you do) and kick an elbow, you’re gonna wish you kicked a cold boon pad more 🥲😂

Dude when you said you dont wear gloves on the bag I looked at your knuckles…. Holy. Shit. They look like Wonderboy Thompson’s dad’s knuckles. His index knuckles look like golfballs. Theyre a karate family but they do Maki training. I guess thai fighters just hit trees traditionally, but they have a leather wrapped hardwood post basically that they just dig punches in to. They follow through and let it reverberate through their arms and hands. Brutal shit.

cool to see a decathlon recommendation. In Europe Decathlon is extremely low priced. I've only seen the gloves which have good design/shape but seem to be made of a very flimsy synthetic material. If the kick shield has held up in a Thai gym though, maybe it's all worth trying.

Hi Sylvie, I cancelled my UFC fight pass (overdue) so I could support your Patreon and your mission to do all this amazing training and documentation! Does the $10 per month level allow me to access all the long-form videos, and can I download them or in some other way watch them without internet access (for example on an international flight or on the subway etc..)? Thanks. Keep up the fantastic work!!! -Gabriel

$10 pledge gives you access to the full Muay Thai Library, 90 hours of video commentary, and tons of other material, podcasts, etc. You can see the Library here: www.patreon.com/posts/muay-thai-uncut-7058199 -- but you need internet access, for all the video. Patreon even has an app. None of the videos are downloadable. I appreciate your support! The Muay Thai Bones podcasts are all downloadable in audio form, like a typical subscription podcast.

Asking for material advice if you come around. 1- Never found training gloves that suit me great. Used to like Twins, but they were bulky. Top King felt too airy and fancy. Hated thong position in Hokkao. Boon were so so. Got Fairtex, but padding is light : had to cut foam from old gloves to wrap on joins and miss the bar grab. Thinking abour Raja, is it good for medium hands small wrist or do you have a better idea ? 2 - Since I tend to slip when I train, I tape my toes together not too tied. Repeting the process is irritating. Thai sport tape is strongly glued and western does not hold sweat. Any suggestion ? 3 - Underwears. Cotton holds sweat and gets uncomfortable. Synthetic becomes fast a bacteria broth, especially in Thaïland. Did you find a way to manage this dilemna ? Thanks.

Raja were my favorite gloves, and I found them a bit tighter in terms of fit than twins. I highly recommend getting Cleto Reyes gloves. recently bought a pair and it's by far the best made glove I've used. Super high quality leather and really solid, heavy padding. They're traditional boxing gloves not thai gloves (stiffer, tighter, more protected wrist, which I like) and a little more expensive in most countries but well worth the price.

  • @ronin7723

@@Qjemuse I got a pair of Yokkao Matrix. The company did manage thumb and gloves are synthesis of Fairtex and Twins (good padding without too much bulk). Scratch also offers better wrist support for me, so this is a winner. Anyway, I need to try some Cleto. Thanks Dave. For underwears, I went with UA Tech boxers and wash them in sink with a mix of soap and tea tree oil. Nevertheless, I should explore merino. Thanks Johnny for your suggestion. Finally, i got Akiléine Nok to harder my feet soles. I also manage to ground myself more when boxing. Thought this feedback might help some.

I always wanted to ask you why did you stop wearing handwraps? Was it due to you competing in Kard Cheuk in which you had to condition your hand for less protection? I do want to know if there are any benefits as I am slowly using more bareknuckle training on bags.
