Thanks again for another great video, which particularly reflects the same fun I feel when being out and about in the streets taking photos. Concerning colours: If photographing with a documentary purpose, like you mentioned in the intro, why then not omitting the colours all together and going B/W, or am I just kind of over-influenced by a book with the pictures by Vivian Maier I've got two days ago? Fun fact: About 3 weeks ago I had bought the same lens for about the same purposes like you did. 🙂

  • @timjamiesonphotos

Thank you mate! These days I pretty much photograph exclusively in colour - it’s just how I see the world and how I want to capture it. Perhaps I’ll experiment with B&w again in the future though! Glad to see you’ve had the same thought, I hope it’s going well for you so far! ✌🏻

Before buying it, I had tested the F1.4 variant for a long walk and almost suddenly fell in love with the focal length but struggled with the focus ring, accidentally defocusing some exposures, because I had the AF setup to Af+MF and lacking a tactile barrier (or being somewhat clumsy) I unconsciously moved the ring with my index finger under the lens. Next day when I returned it, I have bought the F2.0 which "glued" into my left hand like my long time "nifty fifty" 35mm F2.0, but with half the light in open focus, little more than half the weight of the F1.4, and about half the price. In some situations with a subject considerably nearer to the camera than to the first parts of the background the pictures from the F2.0 lack some of the "plasticity" the F1.4 transports, but this might be my own personal perception anyway, and I can easily live without it. So, bottom line: Confidentially well. 😁

You said street photography is 99% failure. I found when I switched to film that changed for me because I was no longer just shooting what was in front of me. I will put my camera to my eye and think nah not good enough. Being much more selective and contemplating if this shot is worth it really made me end up with better photos. It does take longer though because sometimes you only take a couple shots a day but they are the best ones of the day cuz you waited for the right moment.
